went and watched this kid play tonight in the nc east-west all star game. you know how you look at some kids and say, “man, i wish we landed that kid?” i doubt we will be saying that about this kid. he stinks. i know it was just one game but by my tally he was like 2-15, with his only two makes being layups and 2-4 from the line. not a great ballhandler, he couldn’t even get constant seperation from subpar competition. not great defensively. he had about 5-6 turnovers and he was not exactly playing against great competition. glad we missed on this kid.
It’s interesting that ESPN ranked him 30th in the state while Dorin was ranked 15 and Woods 20.
They also gave demery well above woods.
having seen demery play a couple of times, i was not super impressed with him. he has good size and is very athletic but cannot shoot the ball at all. it is definitely an inexact science. it does make me happy to see a kid who spurned us for the acc(devoe), turn out to be not very good.
I think you’re closing the book on him awfully early.
Funny thing is that when DeVoe and/or Demery are wanting to transfer out in 2 years, we will welcome them here as uber talented saviors who were under used in the ACC for some silly reason.

Yeah, and we really wanted Demery.
im not closing the book on him but i cant see what us or the clemson coaching staff saw in him that made us offer him a scholarship. i dont see major d1 talent. he wasen’t just missing his shots, he was shooting bricks.
Do you have one sarcastic bone in your body?

That is not logical.

I assume he had some nights where his shot was falling and they weren’t all short-range. According to maxpreps (not sure just how reliable they are), he scored 34 ppg and shot around 37% from 3 as a senior: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/gabe-devoe/xhJ79PTpEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/basketball-stats.htm
I bet he’s rusty from not having played much lately, and just had an off night. Even really good players can look bad when their shooting rhythm is off.
I think those stats at the top are messed up. The chart below that shows 19ppg. 34ppg would probably be the best in the country, so I’d be really surprised if that is correct.

But I agree that these stats might be wrong, as there’s probably a ton of errors in the reporting on these things. I thought it also mentioned his scoring totals in the observer article on his selection to their region all-star team, and remember being impressed with how high it was.

If the 34ppg is accurate, that is insane.
Counting exhibition, so far on a bad Clemson team Devoe is 0 for 8 fga and 0 for 4 fta. Looking like he could be a bust and our commitments are doing just fine.
dorn and woods are good young players ! they have ah load of upside !

Dorn and Woods appear to be mature players already, very impressive for freshmen, so I'm not sure I'd use them as the barometer given that most freshmen take some time to produce. That said, for now I think getting Dorn was a blessing given how good he's looked so far and that we appeared to be pushing for other players before him (e.g. Devoe and Demery, though Demery appears to be contributing quite a bit early on for St. Joes).
Didn’t really mean a bust but certainly a trend. It just struck me as funny everybody’s highopinion of him and the sky certainly must be falling attitude about our recruiting.
Seems like we find ourselves recruiting against Clemson quite a bit. I’ll take Niner bball any day over Clemson bball. Even if that includes the last 10 years.
