I like what I saw of him briefly at the SAC when watching the volleyball game. Looks for defined than his photo might lead you to believe. And with a wingspan like thatā€¦ love the possibilities. Itā€™s all about attitude when youā€™re built like that. Iā€™d love to see someone bring to us what Hicks and Maxiell brought to UC. You up to that challenge Gaby?

What a nice trend of 4 year players weā€™re locking up.

He looked about 6ā€™6", he was an inch or so taller than Dewhurst standing beside him. But with his long arms and size, it doesnā€™t really matter. He instantly reminded me of a less-muscular Eric Hicks, but Iā€™m sure Preston is going to do something about that.

Was he a Moxley recruit?

True. As nice as it is to land the one-year wonders who make an immediate but short-lived impact, I'd much rather have the journeymen. You can never have too many guys who come in as true freshmen and grow both individually, and with the program, over time. I'll take the Demarcos, Eddies and Curts out there over the Rodney Whites and would have been Beasley's. Those guys are nice to have but they're in and out before you even get a chance to see them develop. Not to mention, they're usually playing more for the scouts than for the team.

he is on Michael Sanchezā€™ AAU Team

Rivals profile updated to show Charlotte verbal.

Another write-up:
Gaby Ngoundjo, Arkansas Hawks ā€“ The long-armed big man enjoyed another big day at the Classic. The Cameroon native blocks a number of shots and alters even more. A strong spring has yielded interest from Purdue (offer), Arkansas-Little Rock (offer), Texas, Texas A&M, Iowa and Arkansas State.

Welcome to NinerNation Gaby!

What is he ranked? how many ā€œstarsā€ has he been given by different sources. I am excited that he is going to play here next year regardless, but I was just wondering where he fell on a scale between OJ Mayo and Michael Jordanā€™s son.

I donā€™t see any ranking for himā€¦ (?)

Great to see another 07 commitment, rankings are sometimes more about exposure meaning Jordans son is ranked based on his name whereas Gaby might not have some of the same connections. Either way Iā€™m excited and hopefully this will help with Sanchez.

From Gary Parrish at Sportsline.comā€¦

1. CHARLOTTE GAINS COMMITMENT: Gaby Ngoundgo, 6-7 forward from Cameroon now living in Little Rock, committed to Charlotte on Sunday, according to Scout.com. Itā€™s a development that should help ease the loss of poached 49ers commitment, Michael Beasley.

Yeah, right.

I meant how good is this guy on a scale where Jordan is 0 and Mayo is 10. I am assuming Gaby is a 5 or 6? Maybe a 7?

Utter just put a piece about Ngoundjo online.

Question - had he actually been offered by Purdue? Thatā€™s quite an impressive list for the Boilermakers ā€“ all 4-stars ā€“ so just wondering where Gaby fit into their plans with 3 guys 6-8 or taller already verballed to Purdue. Not that I am trying to diminish his commitment to the Niners. Just trying to better understand how those recruiting sites work.

did any of you students do this to him at the volleyball game?

heā€™s got some pretty good size to him.

That is pretty impressive.

He is ranked #525 by Hoop Scoop. As stated, not ranked by Rivals.com and a 1 star by Scout.com.

He was offered by Purdue. Stars and recruiting rankings are only indicators and should be taken for what they are ā€“ predictions. Most rating services rarely see a kid play, and rarely more than once or twice. Just impossible to see everyone. The NBA is chock full of no star, 200+ rated players (Okafor, Jameer Nelson, etc) that were on nobodyā€™s radar. Lutz and company think he can play and think he is a key ingredient in our future.
