Just a reminder guys, Charlie Coley’s team plays the team with Rashad Coleman, Anjuan, Big Phil, Shamarr Bowden and Shamari Spears tonight at 6:30.
Little change of plans. I have to work until about 5:45 today, so I will have to go straight from the Arena over to the Grady Cole Center. I posted directions below for anyone comming from campus.
So Lovin, Cha, Lew, etc., I won’t be able to be the Niner Bus today, sorry.
I will definitely be there though, and I still say we should hit the Penguin afterwards for a postgame beer and basket of fried pickles.
as long as somebody in the passenger seat knows where the place is.
Sad but true: 21 yrs in Charlotte and I have no idea where Grady Cole is
haha it’s cool, I have lived in Charlotte my whole life and didn’t know where it was until a couple years ago.
Here is how to get there from Campus, it’s very easy…
Go straight down N Tryon (hwy 29) into downtown.
Take a left on 7th Street.
Go about one mile or so and take a right onto N Kings Drive.
Make a U-Turn at the light, and then the entrance to the parking lot will be about 30 yards down on your right.
The parking lot is that low one, and the Brick building is the Grady Cole Center. There is a gate to the parking lot, but you dont have to pay, it opens automatically.
3, not so great shots from my cell phone, from a couple of weeks ago. All 3 have Coleman in the picture. In the third picture you can also see Spears at the ft line while Coleman is shooting, and Bowden on the bench in a white tank top.
Just got back from a fun outing… Niners bball, the Penguin, the Common Market… three GREAT things
OK, so plain and simple, if there is one thing we took away from the game, it’s this… SHAMARI SPEARS IS GOING TO EAT THE ATLANTIC TEN ALIIIVEE!!! Seriously. I know I’m optimistic, I exaggerate sometimes, and I lead the hype machine bandwagons of incomming players, but this guy was absolutely unreal tonight. He hit about dozen midrange jumpers, many of which were lightning quick spin moves and turn arounds, had some beastly followup layups and dunks, and even a couple threes. He is the real deal.
Coleman had a decent game. Didn’t score much, but was very active close to the basket, and even had one sick block.
Anjuan was his typical self, getting boards and putbacks. He had two nasty dunks, one over Charlie Coley (Coley could have contested it a little more, but hey, theyre teammates ).
Big Phil looked pretty good. Hit some midrange stuff and a nice hook. He will be solid this year.
Bowden was a noshow again.
Coley didn’t do anything of note that I can remember.

Coley had one big dunk, but nothing else. It looked like on one fast break that Coley was going to foul the **** out of AnJuan, but before he did, he realized who it was and stopped himself. I was like, “Thank God!” Coleman is extremely raw, but looks like he could really be something with a good amount of hard work. Big Phil really has his hook shot hitting this summer. If you recall, it wasn’t really there last year.

It looked like he's a little more confident with that shot.
I think Phil will turn out fine. It often takes a year or 2 for 7 footers to start reaching their full potential. 2 examples are Cedric Maxwell and Tim Duncan. They were both decent their freshman year, but I don’t think anyone would have guessed during their freshman year that they would go on to excel in the NBA.
not to be negative, but as i recall phil went five for five last season against that canadian team with like three of his shots being hook shots. ive been out to see the summer league games twice and it never seems like you know what you are going to get from phil. sometimes he looks agressive and he is blocking pretty much everything and rebounding his area the next game he looks like he doesnt want to be out there. coleman from what i have seen, doesnt seem incredibly raw, but looks like his shot may be inconsistent. he looks like he has the potential to be a big time player. i hope coley(and all the other guys on the team are working on our jumpers). i dont want to be last in the a10 in field goal percentage again this year. with a decent jump shot coley is a surefire nba guy, without it hes borderline. why is bowden not playing in most of these games? i dont think hes hurt.

I hope you are right about Coleman, the two games I have seen from him, his shot has looked bad, but it looks like he is going hard. Phil has been a beast both times I have seen him this summer.
