Georgia Tech game Observations

OMG!!! WE LOST!!! Pack it up, the sky is falling!!!

Anjuan had 17 pt in 22 minutes. That guy is gonna be special.

Phil struggled, really the first game I thought he played poorly. Congrats Eason. Let the hate flow.

I think we outrebounded them. Impressive, considering how long and athletic they are. Not many teams should outrebound us this year.

This team played most of the game with Lee, Mack, and Anjuan in foul trouble, and it still came down to the last minute. If you were to tell me that, I would think the Jackets beat us by 20.

Harris is good. Missed a few freethrows in the clutch, and had a couple of TO’s, but he is young. I wish all of our walk-ons were that good.

Freethrows hurt us, but lots of little things hurt us. I dont put the loss of freethrows alone. They had lots of points in transition. To many second chance points. Little things lost this game for us.

Never happy after a loss, but this team is gonna be good. MUCH BETTER than we thought. Should be a very fun year.

I rmember last year getting swept first couple of games of the PJ. I would have had them pack it in that year. This year, A close game with GT? I’m really excited about this year. A win would have been better but it seems like they played a great game.

what frustrates me is not just that we couldnt hit our free throws it is who misses free throws. harris as a pg needs to hit them especially at the end of games. dewhurst was 0-7 from the floor so the least he can do is hit free throws. that being said we could have beaten a good georgia tech team who shot 51% while we shot 37%. we just need to make sure we dont have a hangover for the game tommorrow.

It’s always disappointing to lose, but this team shows that every game could be exciting to watch and the team will look like a real team.

Tons of guys get credit, but one guy more behind the scenes, Coley, is really impressive. He had the bad turnover at the end of the game, but otherwise he is contributing in so many ways.

The one player I was disappointed in was Leemire. He was throwing up some bad threes, and I had flashes of DA in my head. He has options and doesn’t need to force it. Just make the defender run like mad to keep up with you.

But overall, the effort is consistent everygame. There is no let down from these guys, and that’s what makes this team exciting.

Too Many 3’s! But you can definitely see that this team is much more talented than last year’s. They have to break the impulse of picking of the bad habits of previous years, namely jacking up 3’s as a quick fix as opposed to playing good defense on multiple possesions, getting stops, and getting high percentage shots.

Bobby no confidence in Gaby yet…I guess?

gaby is raw. he has only been playing organized basketball for three years. he also is not much of an offensive threat yet.

My thoughts:

That was a very winnable game that we let slip away. Other than Morrow, I wasn’t that impressed with GT. They will probably be in the bottom three or four of the ACC. They might end up with a decent RPI do to the league they play in, but I wouldn’t’ call this a “good” loss. Good teams find ways to win close games like that, but we couldn’t make a big play when it mattered. We are miles ahead of last year’s team, but we haven’t completely turned the corner yet. Hard to get the respect we want when we can’t beat bottom feeders in the bigger conferences.

Lee is killing me. He is one of my favorite players, but sometimes he gets carried away trying to do way too much… particularly late in the game. He’ll get his man one on one at the top of the key and start all of the crazy dribbling and faking and then either travel, lose the ball, or jack up an off balanced three that barely catches the rim. You can tell when he starts dribbling like that that he has no intention of passing the ball. He did it a couple of times in the first two games as well. Can’t have your leader making plays like that in close games. I love his attitude and the way he wants to be the guy to take the big shot but he gets carried away sometimes.

Dewhurst 0-7 from the floor… ouch.

Wilderness played pretty well. 17 points, 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Bobby said he should have gotten him more minutes, but there was a mixup with the scorekeeper in the first half. Bobby had him on the bench for a long time early because he was told Anjuan had 2 fouls (turned out to be only 1).

Gaby should have gotten more minutes, especially considering all the foul trouble we had.

Big Phil has not lived up to the hype so far. Still seems a little timid or anxious or something. 1 point, 3 rebounds, 1 foul, and 1 turnover in 18 minutes… talk about a non factor. How did he play 18 minutes and only get 1 foul with these officials? Hopefully he’ll come around as he gets some more PT under his belt. You can tell he has some talent though… that wasn’t the case with Iti who just looked unathletic and uncoordinated from the get-go.

Harris looked good. You have to like this guy… good energy, solid defense, good job handling the ball. 8 assists, 2 turnovers, 4 steals, 10 points in 35 minutes. He should still get a good amount of PT after Gerrity is eligible.

Foul trouble killed us. Most of our best players spent a lot of time on the bench. Is it just me or have there been a lot of whistles this year? Not just in our games, but all of college bball.

Stupid video feed didn’t work until mid way through the second half. This is the second time I have purchased a video feed and the second time it hasn’t worked for the game (happened to us once last year). I think I’ve learned my lesson now.

Now we see how the team reacts to a loss. Hopefully they can bounce back and bring home a couple of Ws. It’s a shame we won’t get TV for the rest of the tourney.

I’ve never hated on Phil Jones. He is a freshman, and plays like a freshman. He is being put into a situation that is not ideal.

It is a lose/lose situation. If he doesn’t play, he doesn’t get experience that he needs. When he is in, instead of our 3 forward rotation, we struggle a little more.

I think he will develop into a good player.

phil is a sophmore.

phil is a sophmore.
Grade level wise. He is a freshman basketball wise. He couldn't play or practice last year.

its his first year playing with the team. he has three years to play with this team.

Yes... but he should be compared skill-wise to a freshman.

I can’t get over 56 fouls in 40 minutes of play. That isn’t basketball.

I’d like to go on record and say “ninerlegend” should be banned from the shoutbox for future games.

Yelling at everyone to let Utter do play by play, and then “legend” wouldn’t shut up himself! :tool:

Let’s hope the team uses this loss as a learning experience.

Dijuan with 8 Assists to 2 turnovers, good shooting, and solid defense.

It will be hard to bench him.

Great effort for our team, they showed a lot of poise and patience. Harris had a great game, he is a legit PG for us for the next 3 years, except for the FTs at the end, need to make them. Wilderness was very good, and I thought Coley and Mack had very very good games, as JCs and 3 games into their D1 careers.

The not so good; we should of forced GT to shoot more from the outside and we shot too many 3’s, but GT was big and athletic on the D end. Our FT shooting was the same, which is not so good. Dewhurst/Anderson need to prove they can put the ball in the basket at this level.

Smith and Lewal (sp?) had great games, both are very tall and athletic, so it was a tough game for Phil, no issues their, Smith is a Sr center and Lewal (sp?) was like a top 10 recruit, maybe the highest recruit for Tech in many years. We see a Center tandem like that about every 25 games.

Lynch (sp?), was also clutch he had a great game.

Dewhurst is a freshman, I am not worried about him not filling it up yet.

I'd like to go on record and say "uncclegend" should be banned from the shoutbox for future games.

FIXED

Sorry, he irritated me too, so I agree and just want to make sure the name is right.
