My thoughts:
That was a very winnable game that we let slip away. Other than Morrow, I wasn’t that impressed with GT. They will probably be in the bottom three or four of the ACC. They might end up with a decent RPI do to the league they play in, but I wouldn’t’ call this a “good” loss. Good teams find ways to win close games like that, but we couldn’t make a big play when it mattered. We are miles ahead of last year’s team, but we haven’t completely turned the corner yet. Hard to get the respect we want when we can’t beat bottom feeders in the bigger conferences.
Lee is killing me. He is one of my favorite players, but sometimes he gets carried away trying to do way too much… particularly late in the game. He’ll get his man one on one at the top of the key and start all of the crazy dribbling and faking and then either travel, lose the ball, or jack up an off balanced three that barely catches the rim. You can tell when he starts dribbling like that that he has no intention of passing the ball. He did it a couple of times in the first two games as well. Can’t have your leader making plays like that in close games. I love his attitude and the way he wants to be the guy to take the big shot but he gets carried away sometimes.
Dewhurst 0-7 from the floor… ouch.
Wilderness played pretty well. 17 points, 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Bobby said he should have gotten him more minutes, but there was a mixup with the scorekeeper in the first half. Bobby had him on the bench for a long time early because he was told Anjuan had 2 fouls (turned out to be only 1).
Gaby should have gotten more minutes, especially considering all the foul trouble we had.
Big Phil has not lived up to the hype so far. Still seems a little timid or anxious or something. 1 point, 3 rebounds, 1 foul, and 1 turnover in 18 minutes… talk about a non factor. How did he play 18 minutes and only get 1 foul with these officials? Hopefully he’ll come around as he gets some more PT under his belt. You can tell he has some talent though… that wasn’t the case with Iti who just looked unathletic and uncoordinated from the get-go.
Harris looked good. You have to like this guy… good energy, solid defense, good job handling the ball. 8 assists, 2 turnovers, 4 steals, 10 points in 35 minutes. He should still get a good amount of PT after Gerrity is eligible.
Foul trouble killed us. Most of our best players spent a lot of time on the bench. Is it just me or have there been a lot of whistles this year? Not just in our games, but all of college bball.
Stupid video feed didn’t work until mid way through the second half. This is the second time I have purchased a video feed and the second time it hasn’t worked for the game (happened to us once last year). I think I’ve learned my lesson now.
Now we see how the team reacts to a loss. Hopefully they can bounce back and bring home a couple of Ws. It’s a shame we won’t get TV for the rest of the tourney.
