greatest heavy metal bands of all-time

Here is my list. It’s not real contemporary. Not to say there isn’t room for the newer stuff. These are all classics.

I always liked the Scorpions.

Tintin

What’s the cut off? Are you counting Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd? If so, it’s Zepplin hands down for me. If not, Metallica.

I’m pretty sure it’s Black Sabbath.

Ratt, Scorpians, Quiet Riot, Metallica, JP, Maiden, GR, Ozzy/BS

Pantera is not heavy metal, I’d call it speed metal and/or death metal

Pink F? helllll no. Great band, not close to metal. Zep is not heavy metal either.

and if you have not seen “the Wresteler” then do so…awesome movie chalk full of 80s metal and Marisa Tomei shakin that ass to it.

Zeppelin is the best at stealing music…

Do you consider Guns N Roses heavy metal, because they are legit. I don’t listen to much heavy metal, but Appetite for Destruction was a very good album on all music genre standards.

'Tallica hands down is the best metal band EVA!

Pantera was groove metal. I’m not a fan of the glam metal bands. Just too much about eye makeup and not enough about the music.

Metallica is overrated crap. I hate that band.

heavy metal is so hard to define. I remember when VH1 use to do their countdowns and heavy metal included AC/DC and Zepplin, so it is really a matter of opinion.

The godfathers of punk and metal - The Who.
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Anthrax
Deftones

The godfathers of punk and metal - The Who. Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Anthrax Deftones

I love the Deftones and with the Deftones I’d have to add Tool as well.

Judas Priest is awesome too.

Also, RATM and Early Tool is good. I also like Corrosion of Conformity. I tend to lean more toward thrash metal because I like punk rock, but I do hate Metallica.

All of rock and roll derived from the blues.

Agreed on Appetite For Destruction. Hard to beat as a single piece of work.

Agree with most of these, but I think of Ratt as more of a Hair Rock Band like Motley Crue or Poison. Maybe I’m judging them unfairly.

Would also add Dio and Rainbow.

Black Sabbath

good list. amen on The Who

Pantera- nuff said

Paula Cole
Wham!
Cat Stephens
The Crystal Method

Just after glancing through this thread…some thoughts:

Metro, as much as I’m on your wavelength about a lot of things…Pantera is definitely heavy metal. Good metal at that.

Metallica has indeed (as Sideshow said) been overrated crap for sometime now. And Justice For All and Master of Puppets were truly their peak.

Hell yeah for Judas priest.

Bruce Dickenson : Incredible singer and frontman, but a jerk (like many other great singers…Axl Rose, for example).

The Deftones are NOT metal. Period. While I like them, that’s not metal. I’m not even sure Tool falls solely into the “metal” category. Heavy, yes. Metal? Debatable.

But that’s just me.

That is why when he said Deftones, I felt like I had to add Tool.
