TOP 5 GOALS
Justin Williams empty neter in game 7 vs. Edmonton
Staal’s goal in 06 vs. Jersey after Caniacs had left the building. Most people had conceded defeat. There was no OT if Staal did not score. Wallin won the game in OT
Marty Gelinas goal to clinch the 02 Conference Finals. At that time, no one took the Canes seriously.

multiple choices - need more time before I decide
two of nic wallin’s goals should be on this list…the one against montreal in 02 and his OT winner against brodeur.
honorable mentions: ronnie francis in OT in 02 cup finals game one against detroit, brindy against edmonton in game 1 to seal it

his OT winner is referenced (see #2 on original list). my list was instant response to Lew saying
Shoutbox reaction to the greatest goal in Canes history.
UPDATED list
TOP 8 GOALS
Justin Williams empty neter in game 7 vs. Edmonton
Staal’s goal in 06 vs. Jersey after Caniacs had left the building. Most people had conceded defeat. There was no OT if Staal did not score.
Wallin OT game winner in same game as #2
Marty Gelinas goal to clinch the 02 Conference Finals. At that time, no one took the Canes seriously.
Wallin’s 02 winner
Francis winner in game 1 of 02 Finals
THIS GOAL
Brindy’s winner in game 1 of 06 Finals (would be higher but Ty Conklin helped make this one possible)
This was a greater goal than all of them because I had always considered how awesome a ‘buzzer beater’ to win a game would be, but had conceded that the conditions necessary were so rare that it was practically impossible.
For me, this was the greatest goal I’ve ever seen, on TV, in person, or on Youtube.

whatever
I woke up my entire family by screaming when it went in - but it was not the greatest goal I’ve ever seen, in any way, shape or form by the Canes or any other team.

So I was watching Sportscenter this morning (approx 9:15) and when they were recapping and talking about how the Canes now own the record for the last second shot they gave Charlotte the credit for the Canes and not Raleigh.

That’s because most people with a brain realize the 'Canes belong in Charlotte.

I dunno about that. Raleigh loves that team like Charlotte used to love the Hornets.
I guess when they built the uptown arena they figured that if Raleigh ever got tired of them we would take them! We can kick the Checkers out of Charlotte for a pro hockey team!

No they don’t, they didn’t even fill the place up for a playoff game. It was only at 93% capacity. The Hornets sold out every game until the last couple of season when Shinn pissed off the city.
I think Raleigh supports them better than Charlotte would though. I do wish they’d play a couple of games a season in Charlotte however. They would definitely be sellouts.

I’m going to agree with both of these statements. Raleigh LOVES the canes; it is really quite phenomenal.
But…they are the CAROLINA Hurricanes, not the Raleigh Hurricanes, and I would love to see them play 2-3 games a year in Charlotte at TWC Arena. You’d get a huge turnout and probably inspire more South Carolinians to make the trip.
I wouldn’t be opposed to the Panthers playing 1 game a year in Raleigh, except for the fact that they don’t have the facility for it. Carter-Finley is not an acceptable venue to play an NFL game.

I agree with you. It is absolutely phenomenal.
and I would love to see a minimal number of games in Charlotte, Kinda similar to when the Green Bay Packers used to play part of their schedule in Milwaukee.
I am not an expert on the RBC Center management, but I think it is operated by the Canes. The question, in my mind, to make this happen, is could the people with the Canes and TWC Arena come up with a reasonable contract for both sides to enable this to happen. I have doubts if that could happen because the Canes would be giving up at least 1-2 home dates (keep in mind, THEY CONTROL PARKING AT RBC…unlike at TWC). The Canes would get zero parking (unless the Bobcats own a lot I don’t know about) and how would the concessions and ticket revenue be divided.
I wish it would happen because as you said, they would be embraced by many more people…but I am not sure it is economically feasible.
All good questions we’ll probably never know the answer to. Hell I’d even settle for some preseason games here. I imagine the attendance is pretty poor for those in Raleigh, but they would likely be a hit in a city without professional hockey. I wouldn’t mind at all if the Panthers played one of their home preseason games in Raleigh.
You better add another goal to that list, I can’t believe I just watched that, Eric Staal just ripped the heart out of New Jersey fans, THE CANES WILL PLAY ON, Hell of a game!
Cam Ward was phenomenal, what a 3rd period, man what a game!
