Ninercentral, we don’t sit in some dark room and try to push agendas. We report the news that happens and in print and E Edition make some judgement as to what might be of interest.
Online it’s a smorgasbord and folks can have at it. Analytics tells the story.
In terms of media coverage, ACC coverage is spread out among all league teams on TV now and Raycom then. More people did watch the Tar Heels. They won the most I guess.
Us? We covered UNC but covered Charlotte hoops, too. A lot. But when analytics became a thing, it was pretty clear that we didn’t have much Charlotte audience, and so coverage was pulled back. Wasn’t my call.
Now? I think there’s opportunities for us to gain with Charlotte, and I hope I’m proven right, which is why i’ve been pushing the editors to do the push you see now. I hope it bears fruit soon.
Oh I agree, it wasn’t exactly 50/50. There were a decent amount of Falcons fans too. Usually, not always, a lot of the Steelers, GB, Giants, Vikings, etc fans had relatives in those areas or moved from those areas themselves.
The observer in an article on Davidson explains away this year’s 15-15 (5-12) season with the fact they lost their number one scorer.(13ppg) They don’t explain how they did no better last year going 16-16 (8-10) with him. They only say what could’ve been this year? What could’ve been is to have done what Charlotte did this year after losing their leading scorer and center, turn their season around and, be successful! Obviously lack of coaching is the most important factor that the observer is politely overlooking in Davidson past two years?
Losing our head coach past a critical timeline, lose 2 most valuable players to the transfer portal with limited options to replace them so late in the season, lost our highest scorer to Maryland the year before, moved up to a higher level conference (AAC), and challeging for the top position against teams to include Memphis, South Florida, FAU, and SMU. Interim coach gets promoted to head coach. 13-2 home court record. Beat last year’s Final Four team in spite of being projected to finish next to last.
That’s a story!
