Ismaila Dauda - 2013 JUCO C offer

6’9 240lbs C out of Polk State College JUCO. Went to HS in FL and was a commit to Miami (FL) under Haith, 3 star at Rivals coming out of HS. Haith left and Dauda didn’t qualify, hence the JUCO route.

Visiting Charlotte (may have been here for madness), Marshall and Cleveland St, we have offered.

Freshman JUCO stats below, shot 74% from FT line and 1.3blks per game.

[size=11px][font=verdana]2011: Played in 26 games for the Eagles as a freshman...shot 45.0% (68-for-152) from the field...Avereged 8.4 points and 6.9 rebounds a game...Named FCSAA Player of the Week for games from November 28-December 4...Recorded a season-high 18 points at Broward (11/26) while picking up 12 rebounds in the contest...Also registered a double-double versus Palm Beach (11/30) with 12 points and 17 rebounds. sounds like just what we need. not sure he replaces braswells offense but should be better defensively.

Was on campus today. Watched the basketball team scrimmage. Appeared very comfortable with the staff.

According to Rivals he is picking between Marshall and Ceveland State.

Its official. This has to be one of the worst recruiting efforts I have seen from a Charlotte team. We have zero signitures, and the only prospect I have seen on the Horizon is another JUCO. This is just sad…

Sucks, maybe we have good feelings about Atewe, Blakely, Reid, or some guys we don’t know about.

Just remember, Atewe isn’t signing early, announcing late Nov. No ETA on Blakely or Reid.

True on the Lutz thing.

I wonder how much of this is the CUSA move. The incoming guys this year didn’t exactly have enthusiastic reactions about the move when it was announced, at least from the RT’s I saw from 2K and others.

Also, we have two underclassmen PGs, two underclass SGs (assuming Lester gets eligible next year), three forwards and Thorne. It’s a lot easier to recruit guys with wide open PT available. If things go according to plan (and they never do, of course) then most guys coming in for '13 are looking at at least a couple of years of 3rd string duty. We would have to recruit over the current guys, which we are honestly in no position to do given our recent on-court results. That or get guys who are willing to battle for PT in an apparently jammed depth chart. But why fight for PT at Charlotte when you could go to ___(insert other mid-major with poor recent history) and be in much better position to get on the court?

Yes, we have time for a true big man and could probably use another forward/wing player, but at this point can we actually expect to recruit a HS player who is going to come in an earn PT over guys who have been in the system for a year or two? We’ll find somebody to fill in the gaps, but Major’s success or failure over the next two-three seasons is going to be defined by the seven underclassmen on the roster right now.

Great point CMack, I would guess this is our rotation for next year

Henry, Ingram
TWill, Lester, Benny
Mayfield, EVIC
Clayton, Clark
Thorne, ?

So other than a backup center we really don’t have much PT for new guys for next year, unless someone is a bust. Couple that with the CUSA
move and I guess we’ll see what we can get.

I think you meant to say this:

Henry, Ingram
TWill, Lester, Benny
Mayfield, EVIC, Clark
Clayton, ?

Clark is all of 6’5" and is simply not big enough to be a PF. A meaty SF sure, or maybe a PF when we play smaller teams. A t 6’5" he is simply not an every day PF. We have no backups at C or PF and we should be able to recruit at least two kids to fill that void. Major had three open scholarships and he as already started to lower expectations by saying that he is only planning ot use two. I think the real reason behind that is that he knows he wont get three and if he aims to two and only gets one, some people will view that glass as half full, when it is really 2/3 empty.

We don’t have anyone who has proved they can shoot yet. There’s plenty of playing time out there for someone who can put the ball in the basket :stuck_out_tongue:

But in all seriousness, this does seem like the right situation to recruit a JUCO… hopefully one who can actually score.

Have you seen the team picture? Clark is taller than Clayton and EVic (granted he is slouched a tiny bit). Clark will be just fine down low!!

trust me. he is not taller than either of those guys. not even close. i saw them all at the fan day. he is about 6’5 and a half. clayton about 6’7"-6’7 and a half and nickerson about 6’7".5 to 6’8".

Fair enough. Doubt he is 2 inches smaller than Clayton though.

His point is valid that nobody here knows exactly what goes down with these recruits.

It’s naive to think that every one of the guys we lose we lose because we choose to drop out of their recruitment. But it’s equally as naive to say that every time we look at a guy that if they don’t sign with us then we lost a recruiting battle. It’s a two way street, has to be a fit for both player and team.

I’m sure we wanted Dauda, since he was here for an OV then ruled us out.

I’m with ninerfan55 with this one. I passed Clark in the hallway. I’d say 6’5 is about spot on. No way he is over 6’6. He is thick for sure, just not that tall.

Barkley was 6’5… just saying…

So was Danny Fortson of Cinci.
