The old transfer rules worked in keeping Dorn and Woods here so I see your concern.
I think you know how ridiculous that statement was when you typed it. No one is saying stop all transfers ever, but eliminating any disincentive for a transfer to a bigger program has the potential to turn this from Dorn and Woods to Dorn, Woods, J. Davis, P. Henry, J. Young, etc.
I think itâs ridiculous to assume that every good non P5 player will transfer to a P5 school. Thatâs the premise his argument is built on.
My assumption is that Jackson Threadgill is a good kid who will honor his commitment to Charlotte. I am glad he is coming to Charlotte. Unlike others I donât see him as opportunistic and chomping at the bit to make a jump to a âbigger and better programâ. He may prove me otherwise but until then that is where I stand.
I am also making the assumption that Ron Sanchez is building a program that kids will wonât to play for.
In response to an earlier comment⊠Jackson regularly connects from NBA range. The increased distance in the college 3 pt line will not be a problem.
For me its a combo of the transfer rules combined with the ability to pay players with NIL. Those two things combined seem to be a recipe for disaster. Not all players will transfer sure, but I donât think itâs a stretch to think many of the top G5 players will leave not just to play for a bigger names, with better coverage (aka better pro-prospects), but also for the money that will come with it.
If one of these things happened it would just be kinda bad for us. Both of these happening basically creates unrestricted free agency, every year - in every sport. Imagine how different things would be if the majority of our greatest players didnt stay here for 3-4 years?
I donât agree with NWA nearly as much as some do, but he is EXACTLY right about this.
What really annoys me about this is if our coaching staff really does a great job recruiting the under the radar type players that donât have P5 offers or interest and they blow up after 1 or 2 years the P5âs will be after them like high school 4 and 5 star players. They will be more valuable than top high school players because they have already proven they can compete against college competition. Besides losing players why would a coach choose to hang around and put up with that crap.

As negative as I am about all of the NCAA rule changes I am really looking forward to seeing the two freshmen coming in & whoever we add with the open scholarship next season. This yearâs recruiting class was a big step up & it looks like next year could also be very good.
