January 2026 College Football Transfer Portal

Call it a hunch, but I suspect the drama is going to warrant its own thread. If not, I’ll just merge it back into the CFB 2025 thread…

This is the worst game of musical chairs ever invented. The number of players that are going to end with no seat is going to be ridiculous.

Dunno if we will get any more Ohio players. Albin has probably tapped that well as much as he could.

I would definitely give this guy a look. A couple of our coaches are following him.

“Two year contract”???

FWIW, not the first to do that.

Duke did that with the transfer from Tulane.

That will likely be a tool used to attempt to lock in players for longer.

The good is when they match or exceed the value of their contract.

The bad is when they do not play at the level to match the value of their contract. In that case you’re stuck paying them.

So it’s a double edged sword.

Likely not going to be offered to any but high upside players/proven commodities.

I’m very interested to see if NC state holds on to their QB. Seems like he could level up.

I honestly don’t know how people that cheer for programs like ours even care now. It’s pointless.

It’s not pointless if you win, which many g5s can do in this era, and with less nil than us

If all you care about is winning sure. If college sports was more than wins to you, then it is pointless. I have no desire to watch substandard professional sports that aren’t college sports.

I also dont donate to the Panther or the Hornets so why in the hell would i donate to this charade?

Because we graduated from here, and not the university of Panthers or hornets. Also yes, winning is all that matters to me

If this doesn’t get fixed then the end result of this is the same as monopoly - a couple of brands will survive - every other program will fold or be driven down to a bare existence state that is a shadow of what it once was. People just won’t support this model where a few programs with hugely wealthy boosters buy championships. It’s inevitable.

Truth be told I’ve lost so much interest in college sports I probably should keep my opinions to myself.

I think we can survive. Even thrive.

But we need to get rid of this thorn in our sides (speaking of all the G6 and below in all sports) of having to try to compete with the P4.

It’s dumb. It’s ridiculous.

Give me a new division stat.

I still care. What I don’t understand is why folks who say they don’t care, not going to financially support, but use this board daily to disparage at every opportunity, still come here to bitch and moan that they don’t care, won’t support financially, but still come here. Why? Just check out, don’t come here and lead a happier life.

I posted this on discord a few days ago. This is where I am right now.

There needs to be 2 different paths. A path for mostly P2/P4 schools who bring in enough revenue to pay players millions and a path for everyone else who can’t afford to compete at that level. The everyone else path would be the G6 and anyone from the P4 who doesn’t want to play that game anymore. This group should agree on a unified media rights deal where all schools get an equal base media payout and every athlete in a given sport gets paid an equal amount from their school based on revenue earned by that sport. There could be merit based bonuses for schools who make the post season and win championships and those could be shared with the athletes. Do whatever it takes (collective bargaining, anti-trust exemption) to sign players to binding 2 year contracts with buyouts if they want to leave for another school or move up to the super league. There needs to be a split. 75% of us aren’t playing the same game as the top 25%.

Its not even a 75/25 split. Its really like a 95/5 split

Yeah, you are probably right. But if the super league happens it will probably be at least 30 schools and that’s around 25% of fbs.
