I could talk about this guys for days…if I had any idea who he was…

Can he play basketball?

ETA: Lemme guess, this is rather backhanded way to announce that Mr. Utter has been reassigned to cover other sports for the Observer and Javarris is the new Niners beatwriter.

Thanks to the shoutbox…I’ve also learned that his name is not Javarris Bennett or Jevarris Barnett.

From charlotte.com:

Kings senior 6-foot-5 guard Javarris Barnett (25 points, seven rebounds, three assists) impressed college scouts and national recruiting coordinators with his three-point shot

Scout.com Player Evaluation:

STRENGTHS
3-Point Range
Perimeter Shot
Upside/Potential

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Ballhandling
Defensive Presence

3-Star recruit, according to Scout.com (of course, that’s before we get some kind of committment, he changes his mind and goes some other, larger school, then he turns into a four-star or five-star recruit).

Did not start on the varsity as a junior except for a few games. Has been at Victory Christian four seasons. Late bloomer experienced his “breakout” performance at the Bojangles Shootout Dec. 30, 2006. Wing athlete with range. Catch and shoot and can relocate. Excellent grades and a potential high-major prospect if he can replicate the effort.

thats the guy i was asking about earlier. He was waiving the VIC card.

per scout.com
Javarris Barnett, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Charlotte (N.C.) Victory Christian, practiced Tuesday for the first time since his breakout effort at the Bojangles Shootout.

Barnett’s first game since the event is Thursday and we anticipate a big crowd. However, the Charlotte 49ers were the lone team in the gym on Tuesday as they were the first school to see him do his thing last weekend.
Well, Norm should have given it to him then…

I guess I should be surprised by his strengths and areas for improvement…BUT I’M NOT.

The NCAA would then penalize him for accepting improper gifts and/or benefits. With our luck, that would probably cost him a year of eligibility!

This kid can seriously play, watching the Bojangles shootout he about willed VC to a win. Believe it or not in a way reminds me of Alexander. Watching this kid play I was wondering why we weren’t recruiting him then I figured he was going was getting ACC attention. Wow this is news to me.

Let’s go Lutz & Mox use that mojo!

if i remember correctly in the dunk contest he is the guy that went out in his warmups to do some windmills

wow… amazing what one, high-profile game can do for someone’s recruiting buzz.

Hotness. I love knowing someone on the inside.

“Arizona, Charlotte, Clemson, Illinois, Kansas, Miami, Providence, Wake Forest and South Carolina”

= We don’t have a chance.

Depends on whether he wants to play immediately or wait 3 years, stay home or go away. Mike Jones is just another example of a guy thinking an elite program is the way to go, only to realize he needed to stay close to home.

Mike Pratt is the Principal, AD, coach at Victory Christian. However not the same Mike Pratt that played for Adolph Rupp at Kentucky and coached the Niners from 78-82.

Should be noted, excellent academics:
Until then, he was a 6-foot-6 senior guard for Victory Christian who had a nice game, a 3.6 grade-point average and had scored 1,440 on the SAT on his second try. His first SAT score was 1,230.
If he’s interested in us then I hope that’s not too big of a jump. I think we have a chance.

He eschewed the AAU circuit to come to school and take as many as 1,000 shots per day

Proof positive he’s not only intelligent, but smart. AAU does great things for your exposure, but horrible things for your game.
