I think this guy had one huge tourney during Christmas and recieved a big-time scholarship for being in the zone at the right time. I do not expect much from this kid until at least his JR year if then. This is a big-time gamble!

He was getting attention from BCS schools and people who watch a lot more high school basketball than probably anybody here (Wertz and Telap) are really high on him. With his size (not including potential growth) and 3 point ability, his potential is through he roof if he ever fully develops. He is obviously far from a sure thing, but the potential reward seems more than worth the risk.
But do we have the luxury to take risks?
This is a tough situation. People are high on him and we are taking a risk. With that said if we donât recruit him and he lands with a high major and he blows up everyone here will be complaining that we didnât recruit him. So we land him and he has some poor games and everyone is complaining that it is a waste. This isnât science and we will just have to wait and see how the kid pans out.

Exactly. Personally, I think a 6â6+ sg is worth taking the risk

Getting 7 high school players over a two year period does help, not all of them will be expected to perform immediately and if one doesnât play well, there will be others to take the PT. We are going to be a young team with a lot of options, we will still be in good position if Barnett takes a while to develope.
There are no sure things in recruiting. Itâs not like heâs taking a scholarship from a proven player who we know will come here and dominate right away. I donât mind taking a chance on a local kid with potential.

Anytime you sign a player to play at the next level, you are taking a risk. Taking risks is not a luxury, it is a must. To grow a program, you have to take some risks, meaning go after some kids you just have a gut feeling about. One thing we do not have the luxury of is getting top recruits over other schools, so taking a âriskâ on a player like Barnett is something that has to be done. Shit, whats the worst that will happen? He turns out to be a ânot so goodâ player. I promise you that if we have a bad season, it wonât be because of one recruit. We are at a low point, so where else is there to go but up? Iâm happy weâre going with him, at least there is time to grow, rather than another damn JUCO who has one summer to get ready for D1.

I like his brotherâs game as well. Kind of reminds me of Jerell Jamison, only bigger and more athletic. Too bad Warren is a senior, because he still looked raw out there on the court this year. Plus how can you not like the guyâs hair.

Thanks Lefty. That shows maturity out there. I often have watched guys like Carlos and Phaler go up the floor thinking, Do they even know what they are doing? Are they aware of the goal? Looks like we have two good young guys that have potential (Dijuan & Javarris).
