Iâm glad we have an addition with suites and loge boxes to generate revenue. But the look of this thing is a big blah. At least the back side. I like the fact it wonât look like a generic wall of glass from inside the stadium. Thatâs a bigger eyesore. Iâm sure when itâs built it will look okay. But nothing about the images they have shared has me really excited. They just suck at rolling out anything news worthy about athletics.
Just a reminderâŚUNC Charlotte is the second youngest traditional college in the UNC system. The School for The Arts and the School for Science and Mathematics are younger, but the only traditional college younger than our campus is UNC Wilmington, founded in 1947, one year after our founding. Just about all of the member schools were started in the 1800s, and Chapel Hill in the 18th century. So, to say that they had a headstart on us, would be the understatement of the century. More time means more alumni, more endowment, more research money, more affiliation, more connections, more revenue streams, and a better foundation for sports teams.
The fact the we are now the 3rd largest system school, enrollment wise, and have an FBS football team at all, is incredible. We should all be very proud of our school, itâs R1 status, itâs growth, itâs success in all sports, and our stadium expansion. Itâs the latest in a long line of phenomenal achievements. Celebrate it!
I donât know. Hopefully view point or scale are in play, because the first drawing does appear to be larger. It appears to be roughly 4 stories. The second option appears to be 2, tall floors. It looks more like a banquet hall than suites. The first drawing appears to have 4 outdoorish courtyards. The second appears to maybe have one. Without railing or walls? As far as adding the supplemental pieces on the sides later, that doesnât appear to be possible as their view will be blocked by the grandstand, at least based on the sketch weâve been given.
I can see his point there. Itâs value engineered, but if itâs still something we could add later, weâve only been cheated out of it temporarily. Perhaps itâs better to build what we can and start getting some revenue coming in.
Like I said before, we missed the boat on expansion years ago when we didnât do it while money, labor, and supplies were cheap pre-covid.
Itâs a massive upgrade to the stadium. I think weâre missing the scale but look how small a person is compared to that structure. I remember how even the small number of temporary seats for the App game added to the feel of the stadium.
Yes, we missed the window (again) to get all we could have in this part of expansion but itâs still a huge W. Hopefully those suites sell well, and we can get some more income flowing.
Over the past two years, I have felt my Charlotte fandom start to slip. The years of bad results on the field and new age of transfers doesnât help.
But reading this thread, I realize that the negativity from other supposedly super-fans is a contributing factor. Some of you will never be happy with progress, no matter what Charlotte does, ever.
Glad to see we are actually growing the stadium and really hoping Albin is the guy to get this team back to a bowl and fill those new seats in a few years.
What was quoted by the architect and then what we cold actually build for the money was two different amounts.
I know the board expected more for the money than what we are getting due to the increased construction costs so I am confident that it was just budget thats dictating whats getting built.
FWIW though the cost per sq ft is in line with other state construction jobs across the state, so it isnt just us.
OK, that makes sense. However, I would say if theyâve removed a whole floor, thatâs a fairly significant change and not âbasically the same buildingâ.
If they are reducing it by a whole floor, looks like it will be one that doesnât open to the field. Both the old and new renderings show two floors above the new seating.
