Yeah, the new version of the back side of the tower definitely does NOT look nearly as good as the previous rendering.
I think that was just a rendering of the concession stand.
National. I’m not savvy enough to recognize value engineering or even know what that means.
Does that mean the fit and finishes are cheap or the underlying structure is cheap or something else?
How do you tell?
And lastly is JRS as it sits today value engineering?
Its not even the right color brick. Doesn’t the outer wall already exist? Something is amiss.
It’s value engineered for sure.
Hopefully it looks better in person.
We should have built it before Covid hit. Money and materials were cheap.
I say “don’t do it.” I would much rather keep it “as is.” If this is what we are getting, we are regressing. Terrible!!! I am truly embarrassed!
I actually agree.
If this is the best we can afford now, I don’t think that bodes well for future expansions. I’m afraid we will be stuck with a lopsided piece of shit for decades.
It’s a combo of things. Mike has never been a good fund raiser, some of the new donors he has landed are giving to NIL, long time donors like myself have redirected funds or scaled way back due to college athletics environment all on top of increased costs to do anything. And I don’t see things improving in the near term at all.
Honestly - at this point my opinion is whatever.
We really want this part of the expansion to happen. I am disappointed as well as you guys. But, we need that luxury seating and boxes to help attract those big donors.
Can’t be more than a few boxes in a tower that size. It’ll never recoup the cost.
Just throw a cheap upper level on like Georgia southern did a decade ago (but to both sides) and be done with it. Convert the upper few rows of the gold zone to premium luxury seating.
clt likes the current design. the vertical windows looked bad in the first one, and now we get TWO c’s
How to generate enthusiasm in reverse! They didn’t even try with these new images. The first image had landscaping, more people, a fancier gate. Now it’s fewer people, like 3, entering what looks to be the tomb of Jerry Richardson stadium. I know plans/drawings change, and we all have opinions on aesthetics, but man what a let down. By the end will have a freight elevator, a couple of suites and handful of used tvs randomly placed throughout.
We have such a unique location being built in amongst the academic buildings with symmetry and cool layout, I’d hate for them to screw that up with an eyesore of a tower. What’s also odd is they kept promoting a giant cafeteria or meeting place for the team to eat, where is that going?
Calm the negativity fellas. The program is growing. These are good things. The program needs to grow. We need the promised amenities, especially if we want any hope of corporate $$$. Deep breaths.
Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Edit: Upon a second viewing of the two pictures, it looks like the top of that pressbox is an easy “add on” in the future. Literally the only difference in the base structure of the two pictures is the windows.
Looks like 10 Suites, a massive club level, a party deck, and a bunch of loge boxes. The current box will remain as well which was always supposed to be more suites. I think this will work out really well for attracting big business in Charlotte. The other side will be super cheap when they decide to build it.
We will expand the other side with just seats; I have been told it will be about a third of the cost of the tower. I have no way of knowing if that is true or not.
That is pretty similar to what I’ve heard @woodniner
I’m totally in favor of doing nothing, until we can do it right. I’m embarrassed we would even consider building something like this. Looks like something you would see at a NAIA college. Some high school stadiums in Texas are nicer.
Please do not build this structure on our campus! If so, it will set us back.
As I said earlier, it is the same exact structure, the mock up from the artist just isn’t as detailed. The only difference is the window shapes and sizes lol. The supplemental pieces of that press box will be much cheaper than the structure itself, and easy to add in the future if they are needed.
Go outside. Touch grass. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping.
Worst take ever.
