JT Thompson - VA Tech transfer

I’m sure we have a thread for him already somewhere, as we recruited him out of high school, but I couldn’t find it.

We are definitely in the mix. He’s originally from Monroe, and apparently wants to finish up his career closer to home. If he has recovered 100% from his injuries, I’d love to have him. But I’m kind of nervous about a player who sat out two years because of injuries.

We are definitely in contention for Thompson. Heard so yesterday, then today we are listed with him on Goodman’s (CBS) transfer list (only school listed).

Would he play immediately since he sat out with injuries?

He’d be eligible immediately because he’d be a graduate student.

Good. I see no reason not to take him if he wants to come. We could use the front line help and I’m not sure there’s any better out there this late that we could get.

If we could get a productive year out of him and free up Braz to play some more PF it’s a win/win IMO.

I don’t think Thompson necessarily frees Braswell to play PF instead of C, he’s KJ’s size.

He’s a very good rebounder for his size (6’6 or so), and is a pretty well rounded offensive player. He had a lot of games in his last season where he grabbed 8 or 9 rebounds in just twenty something minutes. We could definitely use him next year, IF he’s 100% healthy.

This is a low risk option if he comes here, only putting the scholarship out there for 1 year. We already know we’re after quite a few 2013 bigs to replace Braswell. Thorne will have a full season of play under his belt, as will Clayton and Clark.

My bad, I thought he was taller.

What we can hope happens, maybe by mid year is Thorne is ready to command solid mintes at C and Braswell slides over to PF more often this year.

I still think Braz and The Bear are a dynamite combo.
I still think Braz and The Bear are a dynamite combo.
I think so too. By the end of the year, Ivankovic looked like a solid player. Could he start out the year starting at center, allowing Braswell to play PF? I’d be comfortable with that I think if it put Braswell at PF for longer stretches.

If Thompson comes here, we’ve got a lot of post options for next year, will be interesting to see what lineups we end up playing. I expect a lot of early season experimenting again.

Could Thompson play some small forward? Might depend on his recovery from injury as to whether he can defend that position. But think about a lineup of Henry, Mayfield, Thompson, Braswell, Ivankovic/Thorne.

We need another leader on the team besides Braz, hopefully Thompson could provide this if he comes.

If Ivanovic is playing significant minutes for us next year…we might as well slit our collective wrists.

Chi is right, we did try to recruit him and his cousin, Dorenzo Hudson out of high school.

He does not have many options other than us if he wants to play much closer to Monroe than VT was and wants to play at a high conference level.

I agree it would be a low risk move for us, and potentially decent reward depending on what shape he is in after the injuries.

I certainly don’t expect that, but sometimes a player lands in the right situation and excels.

Skeen wasn’t coming off of 2 acl tears.
