Judy talks about her "Fantasy"...........comment!!!
I don’t direct this specifically at you Metro, but who on this board has done fundraising? I have and its not as easy as some would think. And anyone who says they have, and it was easy, is being less than truthful.
fundraising is nothing but selling. You have to pursuade someone why to give. Guess what? Selling is not easy. You can say Judy has raised XXX million dollars… Thats fine. Every AD in the NCAA does it, Judy is not standing out by any stretch. That is like saying you have a sales goal of 5 million a year and you run around bragging you sold 4 million (so what), you were still under goal.
Wachovia and BofA gave $1 million each in the last capital campaign to the University. It was released today that each pledged $15 million to the Arts Council drive. See if you can figure out the corporate philosophy statement there.
they give to who they like, or have solid personal relationships with (or who pursuades them)

I still go back to she was fine for a time, and she certainly has some positive traits, but its time for somoene else with different energy and ideas. She had a stab at this for 15 years and we are right back in a league that is comparible to the Sunbelt conference of the 80’s.
Well, from an outsiders perspective, it seems to me that the President hasn’t made football a priority yet. Consequently, the AD isn’t going to do anything at this point in time. The AD is merely an administrator. At most schools, the AD’s major task is balancing the budget and insuring that the department complies with all NCAA, state and federal laws. Their second task is acheiving on field/court success.

Most of the time, fundraising has to be approved through University advancement. Advancement doesn’t want athletic fundraising to interfere with university fundraising. Of course, the two should not be in competition, but in the minds of University advancement officials, they are. So, until the big boss approves a fundraising campaign, athletics will not want to step on anyone’s toes. Your AD is not going to do anything, suggest she will do anything, consider doing anything, or even set up a fund for something, unless and until the big boss gives his blessing.

With this in mind, you need to go straight to your President. Have you sent him an email describing your activities and the pledges you have received? How about suggesting the University set up a fund and set goal amounts that would trigger the process. For example, once the fund reaches $10 million, the school will start non-scholarship football, $25 million for 1-AA scholarship, 15,000 season tickets and $50 million for scholarship. If the Univerisity agrees to a fundraising campaign, you are golden. Otherwise, you are dealing with a government official who is not going to think out of the box until she is told to do so.
…hence what I and Judy said about Dubois. And his priorities are to bridge the academic funding gap first. It’s politics.

You can raise football money and earmark contributions and it will be progress, but dont expect any help from the administration until Dubois either gets us fully funded on the academic side or changes his tune based on pressure from the Board.

So I’m not saying give up, because $$$ certainly speak louder than words, but realize what we’re up against.

If you really wanna help us, let’s get some pro-charlotte people in place in Raleigh. That would do more than anything short of a $XX million check could.

It’s interesting that they found plenty of $ for new facilities for track, baseball, & soccer. If you can fund minor sports, you can fund football.
And I mean no disrespect to the minor sports.

I don’t really post on here much but I came across this thread when trying to find some information for a speech on a possible team. It seems like the time for action is now and there are alot of people excited about the movement for football. I also realize there are pledges people said they would make toward football. All this has made me think…has anyone, who made these pledges, actually walked into Judy’s or the Chancellor’s office with their pledge written on a check ready to give? If so, what response/excuse did you get? How much was your pledge for?
BINGO. Until the University is treated equally in the state this will be a problem. In the past Athletics have had to raise funds in a very low key way. Athletics on one campaign even had to quit soliciting funds via telephone because of a capital campaign for academics going on at the same time ( because of fear of confusion).

And the hammer hits the nail squarely on the head.

Nobody’s going to do that until there’s a fund earmarked specifically for football. Otherwise, they can do with your money whatever they please.

I wopuld like to see Judy Rose naked with a football helmet on her head.

As Noreaset said there is a football fund. Correct me if I’m wrong but, didn’t Woodward donate that $1000 into a fund at his final graduation ceremony? Somebody who was there back me up. Didn’t he throw around some figure like $4 million as the goal?

whoops, wrong guy, right date/amount. Sorry, it was noisy down there. From http://www.ninernation.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10350

I was at the afternoon graduation at 3. J Addison Bell, retiring memeber from the UNC Board of governors, stated the need for starting a committee to look into getting football implimented at Charlotte. He stated it should be the mission of the class of 2005. He donated $1,000 to start the fund and asked that others do the same. Woodward didn't seem pleased about it and one person yelled from the audience "get them jobs first."

How many times do we have to say this? THERE IS A FUND SET UP SPECIFICALLY FOR FOOTBALL. IF YOU TELL THEM YOU WANT YOUR MONEY SPENT ONLY ON FOOTBALL, THEN THEY CAN ONLY SPEND IT ON FOOTBALL.

Could you be more specific…

Yeah, while I know it exists how do we ensure that the money goes into it. Writing ‘Football Fund’ on the memo line of a check isn’t going to cut it.

Good Lord man! I’m calling you at three am when I have nightmares… j/k
But really, why would you say that?

not kidding

There, I fixed it for you.

Attach it to a letter that says you want your money designated to the football fund. That’s what they told me to do. I suppose you just have to trust that they are going to put the money where you tell them to. If they can’t be trusted to do that, I don’t imagine they would get many donations at all.

bump

They moved from I-AA to I-A sometime in the 70’s or early 80’s, and UNCCH AND UNCR were not too happy about it.

Hey I like this idea… we can do like they did in Major League, just the other way around. She starts naked and as we raise more money the clothes go on. Who wouldn’t donate to get her covered up? I can hear it now… “I hate football, but damn she needs her clothes on so here is $100.”

If people were serious than the money would show up. No for 'fantasy' about it.
