Ken Griffin nowhere to be seen at press conference today. May be missing one more coach. May not.
Was Sabrina, Erin, & Krystion there? Can’t fire the chics!
Please retain Sabrina. ![]()

Glad to see Sabrina is still on board. Maybe she’s the coach in grooming…
any word re the ‘buy-out’? (i haven’t read all the way back up.)
Good question Early. I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.
any word re the ‘buy-out’? (i haven’t read all the way back up.)
We are getting it, if that is what you are asking. North Texas is asking for contributions from their fanbase and supporters and I think Coach Aston will indirectly pay the rest by a salary reduction.
Karen confirmed on FB that Sabrina & Tracy’s brother-in-law are staying.

Coach Aston keeps tweeting these cryptic, positive messages about it getting better every day. What, I wondered could be so good about a 5-25 team loaded with underclassmen? I just checked the roster and four of last year’s players are gone. Could that be the source of her happiness? That is just cold Coach.
Nugget she could be trying to motivate a young team. Geesh, you know nothing of coaching.
Saw that and I would guess that she is excited about landing some big recruits. Did the same thing when she was here.
Karen Aston is now a top candidate for the Texas Longhorns job:

When Aston left Charlotte it was quite a surprise as she had just recently expressed her commitment to the program when her agent negotiated her contract extension. While it would be hard to confirm, it appeared that conversations had occurred with North Texas while our team was still playing in the WNIT Final Four–a major no-no. Aston resigned on 4/6, just one week after getting on a plane to come back to Charlotte. Let me say again–she negotiates through her agent, so it likely was not a fast process.
On the other hand she was moving to be closer to her parents in Benton, AR. They were getting up there in age and their health was not good. It is hard not to cut the good daughter a break, right? Well Austin, TX is an 8 hour drive away from home, but I guess since the Univ. of Texas paid their last coach over $1 million/year Aston’s life-priorities have gotten flexible. Funny thing about coaches, they fly all the time and have tons of frequent flyer miles, so flying from Charlotte to Little Rock any time you want is pretty simple. Probably just like flying there from Austin.
I don’t have a problem with coaches or anyone else improving their career situation but integrity counts. Especially when you have just recruited a bunch of young people to come play for you. After just one year at North Texas I bet they wish they had not payed for half of her exit fee to get out of our contract.
With 100 career wins Aston would replace Gail Goestenkors who has 460 in her 15 years leading Duke and five at Texas. The Longhorns must either be “downsizing” their contract or think that Aston is the best undiscovered coach in the nation.
I was under the impression she left Charlotte because she was unhappy with the athletic department and she didn’t feel the program was getting as much love as it deserved. I think Coach Aston is great and she did deserve better. I hope she gets the Texas gig.
Was she aware she was coaching the women’s basketball team?

lol’d.
Was she aware she was coaching the women’s basketball team?
This. There are probably only a handful of women’s basketball programs in the country that make money for their respective athletic departments. I’m not against women’s basketball, mind you, but secondary sports, men’s and women’s, need to understand their place in pecking order when it comes to the “love” they are going to receive from the athletic department and boosters. All of these are about to drop another spot at Charlotte.
The North Texas fan board is a repeat of ours from last year. Some saying she’s leaving because of “lack of support” from the adm. and fans. Some are questioning whether Texas followed proper procedure in contacting Aston. One person even goes so far as to say that the North Texas athletic director denied Texas permission and they went ahead and interviewed her anyway. Karen seemed to me to be one of most open and honest people I ever met. Perhaps her agent is a bit on the slimy side. Oh yea, they also questioned whether Texas would welcome back Aston, saying she “burned her bridges” when she left there as an asst. coach. One thing is certain; if Karen takes over Texas, we’ll find out if she can really coach at the highest level. I’ll try and shut up about Aston now, since we have our own coach with her own strengths and weaknesses.
