Karron Johnson - 2009 SF/PF

Run, your comments on his consistency, stagnant rating (while others catch up to him), and off court issues make me wonder if some of those larger schools may be backing off and why we may be getting a chance to take a look. As good as “you know who was” I must say I was shocked by the lack of specific offers from certain top tier schools.

Thats because a lot of coach’s had respect for the verbal, minus Bob Huggins. When he decommitted, Duke and Carolina looked at him. By the time he decommitted a lot of schools were loaded up, and didn’t know who was leaving early.

If we land this kid, I will be excited. Nothing against the guys we have this year (Phil, juan, etc.), but this kid could totally change the landscape of our future. Kids want to go play with the #6 guy in the nation.

That means the students need to PACK OUT Midnight Madness!

You definitely want to make Karron feel welcome because this kid is a monster!
I saw him really give Mike Beasley the business at the NBA Camp two years ago. I mean he REALLY let Mike hold it!

That’s how he got his name nationally.

Jason, think you could get ahold of Karron and see where he stands with Charlotte and other schools?

Great minds think alike, or in my case decent minds… Anyway, I’ve got a call into Karron.

great, looking forward to it
By changing the equation. Memphis couldn’t do it when we were in CUSA with them, but now they suddenly can. If they can, we can. If other A10 schools can, we can. Anything less is excuse making.
Memphis has been doing it ever since Calipari got there:

Dejaun Wagner
Amare Stoudamire
Shawne Williams

just to name a few…

Calipari didn’t do squat with Memphis while we were there. Nothing he did exceeded what we did. It was after we left CUSA that Memphis emerged as a power.

How many games did Amare play for Memphis? We probably could have gotten an LOI out of Kevin Garnett if we really tried but it wouldn’t have meant jack. Regardless of what they have done, there is no ACCEPTABLE REASON why we can’t be doing the same and that’s the main point.

hmm…i want this guy. now.

Challenge to students:

Get more than the first 2 rows to chant and you will have a better chance at getting his attention.

I never said he won when we both were in C-USA, what I said was he got commitments from Top 10 / HS All-Americans all the time. On the other hand, with or without success, we have never got those types to come to Charlotte and to expect it is ridiculous, especially now that we have taken a few steps back and also play in the A-10.

Stoudamire wasn’t a consensus NBA lottery pick when he was being recruited, so his commitment to Memphis was legit. And no we could have never got a LOI out of Garnett, lets be serious.

To compare our recruiting with Memphis’ recruiting since Calipari has been at Memphis, regardless of what conference or success, is ridiculous.

Again,

Regardless of what they have done, there is no ACCEPTABLE REASON why we can't be doing the same and that's the main point.

Well then you can continue to live in your dream world and bash the 18 year old kids that decide to go elsewhere when the time comes to make a deicision.

Okay, you've lost me.

Atlantic 10 teams will chase after the best players in the country. This includes schools that don’t have a head coach with as many victories as Lutz, or schools with sub-par facilities, poor recent histories, or schools that lack our reputation as a strong recruiting school. Do they land every top kid they chase? No, but they’ll land a couple.

And they’ll ask why we don’t even ATTEMPT to chase after the best kids. For the life of me, I can’t think of one lame excuse that should prevent us from welcoming Karron’s visit to the campus with open arms.

I am not saying we shouldn’t pursue the guy, you never know what is going to happen.

I just don’t like when we (the board) gets pissed at the recruits ala Michael Beasley or Von Wafer when they go elsewhere.

For those who have been following the 2008-09 A-10 recruiting thread, the other conference coaches certainly don’t shy away from anyone on the recruiting trail. Right now Dayton, Saint Louis, and Xavier are having the best success with top notch recruits, though until they sign their respective NLIs, nothing is certain (as we know all too well!). Still, I’ve been very impressed with the number of commitments for 2008-09 to A-10 schools PRIOR to the early signing period.

Look I know it’s way more difficult then this in recruiting but this guy has to know if he comes here…

HE IS THE MAN

The other schools mentioned (Arizona, UVa, etc.), will be out the door the next day after he signs his name on the dotted line looking for someone better.

Also, maybe it is just me, but I would be highly sold on the fact that I could shape a team. He would lure other top recruits himself, he is the marketing ploy, he dictates it. I know I would feed off of that I don’t know about others. Look if you’re good and/or NBA ready, they’ll find you, no matter who you dunk on. If he goes to Arizona or Georgetown he’s just another guy, wouldn’t anyone else want to be the man?

Ok, I’ll stop ranting now.

I just don't like when we (the board) gets pissed at the recruits ala Michael Beasley or Von Wafer when they go elsewhere.

I dont know how message board posters reacted with Wafer, cause I didnt post at the time…but I do remember the Beasley situation…and the anger was aimed at Hill and Huggins. Not so much at Beasley.

Now I am sure you had a few idiots here or there that bashed Beasley at the time, but overall, the venom was aimed at the puppet masters, not the puppet.

Its crazy to get mad at a 16 or 17 yr old kid because they changed their mind.
