I dont know how message board posters reacted with Wafer, cause I didnt post at the time…but I do remember the Beasley situation…and the anger was aimed at Hill and Huggins. Not so much at Beasley.
Now I am sure you had a few idiots here or there that bashed Beasley at the time, but overall, the venom was aimed at the puppet masters, not the puppet.
Its crazy to get mad at a 16 or 17 yr old kid because they changed their mind.
Right, so if Cheeks gets this guy interested in Charlotte, then is offered a higher level job at lets just say, Virginia, it will be the same thing over and over again.
I’m just worried that it is another recruit being used as leverage, that is all.

Cheeks doesn’t coach Karron’s AAU team. Why wouldn’t that team just hire Tony Squire as an assistant if they wanted to get in with Karron?
Delonte’s relationship with Beasley was more than just an assistant coach going after a recruit. Beasley was going where Delonte was going. Huggins saw this and exploited it.

The recruit who is to remain nameless is an extreme situation, it doesn’t happen like that 95% of the time. Now if Cheeks lands him, does he get phone calls the following year more power to him, no assistant wants to remain an assistant at a school on the level of Charlotte forever.
Its not like we’ve never landed a highly ranked prospect…what were iti, rodney, and wasn’t Charles Hayward highly touted?

Recruits get used as leverage all the time. Perhaps not to the extent that we saw with Beasleygate, but it happens at some level or another.
That shouldnt keep us from targeting these types of players.
Speaking of the “nameless,” here’s a little tidbit from Jeff Goodman:
Kansas State assistant Delonte Hill was instrumental in getting D.C. Assault product Wally Judge, a talented 6-foot-8 junior power forward, to commit to Frank Martin's program.
Karron Johnson also played with An’Juan for a while at Patterson. Jim Utter was saying that played into his decision to come down to MM. ‘he wanted to see where his good buddy An’Juan was playing’ is the gist of what Jim said in the shoutbox.
DOBA for about 4 straight posts. The lack of a contract is the biggest issue Bobby and staff will have in bringing in recruits right now.
I stopped getting fired up over big named recruits years ago, long before Beasley. It would be great, but it’s all talk till they are enrolled in classes.
I was just worried that he’d come to watch the event and no fans were going to show up. I was pleased to see the amount of people that were there. That would’ve probably been a recruit killer right there if we had an empty gym.

the most impressive part is the amount of students that always show up to basketball madness. its strange to me, however, that we never see that amount again. if we had that many students night after night, we’d come pretty close to filling halton.
