Kickoff Meeting

Still don’t understand why the administration wouldn’t offer an incentive like season tickets for all the other sports when you purchase FSL’s. At least you would have potentially more people attending the other sports like soccer and baseball, and would have a potential big boost for b-ball. We just need people on our campus attending our events and getting engaged in the university.
At the very least it would be an incentive for the purchasers.

I’ve tried to have a positive attitude about this but I can’t find it. 3000 FSLs by September? We are looking to the community to buy these 3000 but our own community doesn’t support us. This is a sinking ship and it’s going down quick.
Still don’t understand why the administration wouldn’t offer an incentive like season tickets for all the other sports when you purchase FSL’s.
Neither do I. We have so many options and the administration has not taken advantage of any of them.
I’d really like to see you guys with a football program, but I gotta say…at $ 1000 just for a ā€œseat licenseā€, especially at the FCS level, well thats a little steep. Actually it’s way too steep.

Especially in a town with the NFL and NBA.

Our season ticket costs are only $ 120 and there is no seat license requirement. Say what you want, but with that revenue, large donor contributions and corporate sponserships, its been enough to pay for the program plus a 20,000 seat stadium that is sold out for our entire first year.

What I’ve really been hoping is that Charlotte would somehow find its way to the CAA. I don’t mean to be critical cause I think you all have a great school, but with the way this thing has been handled, you may end up with no football program at all.
But something like ODU’s model would make too much sense.
The $300 per student football fee for ODU didn’t hurt either. Your school is about the same size as ours I think. That should generate a lot more cash than tickets, donations and sponsorships.
Perhaps that is why football opponents fought so strongly against a $300 student fee.
Why not guarantee FSL owners a discount on season tickets for a predermined period of time (perhaps forevder)? That gives potential buyers a little more incentive to buy a seat they can use 5 years from now.
This sounds too simple.

There are some ā€œdiehardsā€ on this board that I sure am glad aren’t volunteering to make this happen. The negativity over here KILLS ME sometimes. Instead of whining about how it’s never going to happen how about you pick up a phone and make 10 phone calls? Hell, make 5 phone calls.
I’m as frustrated as anyone with the progress this football campaign has made, but I will be doing my part to see that this happens. And if, for some reason it doesn’t happen, I will also be able to say that I did do my part to try to get the support we need. Many people on this board will also be able to say that, but many will not. They’ll just get back on here and whine & complain that our school can’t do anything right.
Let other people make excuses. Many of the people on NNN have turned into great ambassadors for our school and our athletic program and it’s frustrating to see that there are people who do obviously care about our programs constantly pointing out the negative and how we’re never going to be able to do this. We have enough of a constant uphill battle to fight without our fans making it more difficult.

*one more thing- someone that spoke last night (can’t remember who) said that there are people in this city/community that are basically sitting back waiting for us to stub our toe on this thing. I’m beginning to wonder if there are some regulars on this board that are doing the same thing.

Sorry- that got long- it’s too early for me to be this riled up. /rant.

Conspiracy theory?

The same can be said about some of our ā€œbasketball fansā€ on this board too.

Quick Question, per judy the breakdown went like this:

15k seat stadium

 • 7k for students
 • 7k for FSL’s
 • remaining to go to player comps, opposing teams.

Thus leading to the perception, ā€œif you want to watch us play, you have to buy an FSLā€.

How do we ā€œengageā€ the public, if they can’t attend?

I have friends and coworkers who would love to be engaged in a local football program, and the tailgating events. However, they are not going to drop a grand on a program + season tickets, that doesn’t exist, when they haven’t even sent 1/10th of that back to their alma mater.

If we let the general public just walk up and buy tickets, what is the purpose of buying an FSL?

if a tree falls and nobody hears it, did it make a sound?
Most people I know will buy tickets but never pay $1000 FOR FSLs. Many of these people are not UNCC grads. The last thing we need is to make these potential fans feel unwanted.
we we are doing that.

How does the ā€œUniversity City _______ Church Youth Groupā€ or the ā€œUniversity Area Boy Scoutsā€ get a chance to go to a ā€œgroup rateā€ type game so that we can build interest. How does an alum, who now lives in Texas, happen to be in town for a weekend, and get to attend a game?

Oh I completely understand, but what do you expect the AD to do?

If we let the general public buy tickets, FSL holders will say, ā€œwhat did I pay $1000 for if some Joe can buy a seat next to me on gameday?ā€

I think the solution is an allotment of 800-1000 seats for community. No season tickets sold in that area, just individual seats bought on a game by game basis.

My point is that the adminstration has waited until the 2:00 warning to mount a comeback. If they had been proactive, it’s possible we wouldn’t have to have some of the great 49er men and women hitting the phones. I would be there with you guys but I’ve never been more busy with work and going back to school, so I back my mouth with my wallet. It’s even tougher when you have your back against the wall and a blind leader.

Exactly, to all of those points. The FSL program has done nothing but alienate many potential season ticket holders, both alumni and people from the community who would have otherwise been interested and would have likely purchased season tickets had the program been set up better. Those that cannot afford the price of the FSL’s for their families have already been barred from the stadium before a game is even played.

The bottom line is the whole AD’s office should be cleared out if this gets shut down by the BOT come October.

It was Johnny Harris who said that. I was checking to make sure the wallet was still in my back pocket when he finished speaking.

I am not happy with the way the campaign has been run to this date. However, I don’t want to see it fail, and it’s up to us (and our friends) to make this work despite the lack of leadership provided by Phil.

Exactly. If we don’t step up now, it will definitely fail.

Sometimes the players don’t like the coach or the strategy, but they can still do what they should to win the game.

What would you have the AD do?

We need a place to play, which means we need to raise $$.

What’s the alternative?

This is terrible press. The O reports us in this desperate situation of trying to get tix sold in 2 months. Too bad we didn’t have this pep rally to kick this thing off and come strong out of the gates.

The plan here was terrible. We could have incorporated marketing and PR majors to take things on as ā€œgroup assignmentsā€. Instead we are making our biggest push when students aren’t even on campus. No chance to host things on campus to promote, get extra media coverage about our football quest, etc.

The student role in this is pretty much finished, they already campaigned/rallied/voted. Now its in the community and alumni hands. Students aren’t buying FSLs, so why do we need them around?

Slightly negative, but still puts our cause out there. Love all the UNCC and UNC Charlotte Athletic Director references NOT

And apparently I was in a shot on the 11:00 news last night on Channel 9 so if anybody finds that version, lemme know.
