Rucker and Minter havenāt purchased. Iām not sure about Harris, but he definitely will if he hasnāt already. I believe I saw Gene Johnsonās name on the list of people who have purchased.

Iām surprised any of you would think Rucker or Minter would buy. Theyāre just lending their names and limit amounts of their time for this. I donāt expect them to become regulars at the games!

These FSLs are chump change to any one of them. I donāt expect to see any of them as regulars at the games. Johnny Harris may show up at game #1, but I donāt see him as a regular attendee.
Shouldāve been a requirement for any of them to buy 2 $1000 FSLs to be on the committee. That expense to them is like me going to Wendyās for lunch one time.
If you are saying to do this instead of the FSLs the problem is you canāt build facilities, hire coaches, or fund scholarships until you raise some money. Waiting until the first season to begin wonāt work. The 49er Club raises about $1.5 million/year now and it takes almost all of it to support our current programs. If we brought in $3 million/yr maybe we would have the extra cash to start building but we donāt. We can sell cookies or we can sell FSLs, but somehow we have to get additional cash to get this going. Keep in mind that in addition to football we have to add two new womenās sports. That puts additional stress on our already tight athletic budget.
I am saying sell season tickets well in advance like the FSLās have been sold, but the first season will cost double. The ādoubleā money would take the place of the FSLās. You would have the money for the first yearās season tickets in advance, to spend or draw interest off of, and the ādoubleā money could then be used to begin paying for facility costs.
Hereās a comparison for a family of four:
4 FSLās + 4 season tickets = $4000 + $1000 = $5000
4 inaugeral season tickets (Priority A) = 4 x ($250 + $250) (cost of ticket + required start-up donation) = $2000
The $1000 ādoubleā donation would be tax deductible, and my bet is people would donate more on top of that. You could also require certain yearly donation that would correspond with the tiered seating levels, which would guarantee future income to the program. Unlike the FSLās, which are essentially worthless, the advanced sale of tickets would be of some value.
The alternative proposed does not raise as much money as the FSLās individually, but my guess is that you would sell MANY more double-priced season tickets in advance than we have managed to sell FSLās. That would be an easy way to quickly build a solid fanbase, and I also would bet that your total revenue would be much higher by going that route instead of ripping people a new one with the cost of an FSL.
I canāt believe someone didnāt mention to Rucker & Minter that purchasing FSLās would be an unspoken requirement of being members of the committee. Iāve volunteered on numerous civic/educational campaigns and donating to them is the very basic commitment. To this point they havenāt been asked to do anything else apparently⦠one even missed the news conference after the announcement. Iām very unimpressed with their level of commitment and involvement so far⦠hopefully it will change.
Johnny Harris may show up at game #1, but I donāt see him as a regular attendee.
I expect him and some of our other boosters to get some luxury boxes. If not on their own then as a group or part of their companies.
Shouldāve been a requirement for any of them to buy 2 $1000 FSLs to be on the committee.
At which point they would have replied āNo thank you, good luck.ā
That expense to them is like me going to Wendyās for lunch one time.
Been a minute since Rucker and Minter signed and NFL contract. Perhaps for them at least it would be more like taking the Wife out to a nice dinner with enough drinks to get her giddy.
Some people need to have some humble pie before they demand money from anyone not an alum

Iām sure theyāll be buying FSLs and getting several of their buddies on board as well. I expect Harris and the other big hitters will send out a letter to everyone one at Quail and all of his business associates. Those people will buy them for their companies, family, etc. just because Johnny asked them too.
Some of you are way underestimating the people involved with this. If we do our part with contacting old friends/fellow alums, work our asses off to get the word out to likely buyers & Johnny and the boys do their thing, weāll get very close to the target by mid Sept.
I think Iām actually going to be surprised with how easy it is to sell FSLās. I donāt have friends with a lot of money, but $27 per month is very affordable, and people will be open to buying tickets since this is going to be their only chance.
Iām expecting very good things from this push.
For the record Everett, Harris and Johnson all have made payments for FSLs as have Hauser, Hull and Price.
Other names you might recognize (with apologies if I donāt name you): Jim & Mary Lou Babb, Carl Belk, Irwin Belk, Charlotte Regional Sports Commission, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Phil & Lisa Dubois, Loren Hibbs, Mike & Stacy Hummer, Larry Hyatt, Luquire George Andrews, OrthoCarolina, Tom & Lib Phillips, Karen Popp, Walter Putnam, Judy & Ken Rose, Chip Rossi, Carl Scheer, Darin Spease, Marburger Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Jim Utter, Chip Wampler, Keith & Diane Wassum, Kelly Weatherman, Kim & Tom Whitestone, Jim & Martha Woodward.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of people who want to see football at UNC Charlotte. There are former BOT and Alumni BOG members I did not name who have purchased NSLs along with some of the regular NN.N posters.
There are also some glaring omissions. Are you with us or against us?
The administration is not going to help this effort. It is up to the ācommon manā to make it happen. Are we up to the challenge? I donāt know, but I know that should this fail, it wonāt be due to the efforts of some have worked hard in the attempt to achieve it.

Just working with what I know. In other words, I am making my comments based on my experiences as an alum.
I am proud of my school. But the āsuccessā over the past few years have left me very empty.

Iām very glad to see these names. I only wish that they were additions and not already in the 1850 sold.

Starting to feel warmer about this actually happening. Until your post here, I knew of myself and some nameless, faceless people on NNN who were committed to this happening. I hoped some of those names would be there, but did not expect all of those names.
Should sleep a little better tonight. Thanks

Iāll sleep better when we have 4000 FSLās sold, I think that will keep us on track to 2013. I might have to bite the bullet and purchase a third to help it along.

Thats why I said āa little betterā
There are, at least, 4-5 names on HPās list that I didnāt expect to see.

Iām wondering who isnāt and why its so shooking?
Did anybody hear today on WFNZ that Packer asked Cornbread if he was going to make any financial contribution to the cause? He sort of downplayed it, then stated something along the lines of āWell I write a check for $1000ā. That is better than nothing and I can only assume he will hold to his word, but his tone really demonstrates how much he supports the university.
Along the same lines, are there any past athletes on the list who have purchased FSLās?

Phuck Cornbread.

I was on Pack today - I was on at the very end of the show. There were 2 callers about Niner football and I was the second.
On a different note - looks like I sold 4 FSLs today. So combined with the 2 I bought I need only 4 more sells to fulfill my 10. Not that I plan on stopping there though. If other people find it as easy as I have then we are golden. Most of the people I talked to had not given any cash yet because they just didnāt feel like it was āreallyā going to happen. In fact I had to convince one of them that they will get their money back if it all falls through. 4 down - 4 to go!

Mark Packer is still on the air? :wow:
BTW, Cornbread sucks, but Iāll take his money, if he is actually going to stroke a check.
