Lamar is terrible. We are worse.
I’d like to think that we are work in progress, that we are improving little by little each practice and each game…but wow. This was just atrocious.
Seriously a disgusting loss to a disgusting program. There is no excuse for this. We should beat Lamar sans Braz, Barnett, and KJ. We should never loose to this kind of a program. Major set back here.
Braswell’s take:

turnovers, missed layups, bad shots, fouls, could not check anyone, not rebounding,…yesss i watched the whole game
yep, pretty much
hope they can pull it together and avoid further embarrassment on Tuesday
I hope Braswell is fired up and fires up the team for Tuesday’s game. Anyone take a count on the missed layups from Green?
Players gave it all they had and came up 19 points short. Thanks for the effort boys.
KJ is the player of the game. WHY THE HELL DO WE HAVE A PLAYER OF THE GAME?
I did he missed 2! 2 wide open layups…2!!!
I know he got 19 but we pay for those 19 points with stupid turnovers hand a high volume of shots. He has to shoot and miss a lot ot get those 19. It hurts us as a team.
to be fair, Lamar missed more layups than us it looked like. We should probably just go ahead and spot the other team 20 points to start the game instead of throwing them the ball during the game.
… i’m just surprised we kept the loss it under 30.
sorry, if he makes those 2 lay ups, we lose by 14 instead of 18. momentum changer: potentially, but that’s a small problem, got to look at the bigger picture.
they out rebounded us 48-24. they DOUBLED our rebounding, 12 of them being on the offensive glass. not making excuses by any means, but braswell definitely had an effect on this outcome.
also hurts when you go 8-18 for the free throw line. need to work on our chemistry on the court. offense is all over the place.
smart passing, taking care of the ball, spreading out the court on offense, boxing out on defense, making free throws, taking smart shots in the flow of the offense, and hustling = fundamental basketball.
we don’t play fundamental basketball.
Rebounding–no way can you let Lamar double you up in rebounding, no matter who is missing. That is one lame stat. It wasn’t like they had bigger guys than us, it was just effort.
FT Shooting–seriously?
Unforced turnovers–even when teams are not trying to press us, we are throwing away the ball for layups to the other side.
Defense–again, I thought this was supposed to be our calling card? We did not set the tone with tough man to man defense.
1st half–we came out with no energy. Have no idea why, but we sleepwalked through the 1st half. Energy was better in the 2nd, but it was already over by then.
Wake up fellas, or you are in for a looooooooong season.
We were terrible. They destroyed us on the glass. Out hustled us, out defended us, out played us in every way. And they are a TERRIBLE team.
The only solace I take is that 1) we didn’t have Braz so it remains a good excuse I can cling to. 2) every year, even our best years, we’d get decimated on the road to a team we had no business losing to.
A lot more basketball to be played. It was one game. Let’s see how we respond next time.

So what if they missed more? Its LAMAR! IF the ball goes in the hoop they get a standing ovation! Momentum means everything especially when we are trailing. Especially when you are having a bad shooting game. You need those easy baskets to restore confidence and get players thinking “We can do this” instead of “Oh god we really cant hit anything in this gym!”. So dont undersetimate the improtaunce of hitting the easy ones. Maybe Lamar gets rattled and nervous instead of cocky and confidance. It would have made a huge impact.
We should not beat Lamar without our best players.
Do people actually watch the games or just look at the name and decide we should crush them?
Their team looked more athletic than ours.
They are also older and more experienced.
We looked completely out of sync and in the first half and were lofting the ball around. Passes were a bit sharper in the second half.
Our team has little chemistry and the rotations are slapdash.
Duece who was supposed our energetic sixth man has become a basket case. He has just lost all confidence and Major seems to have lost confidence in him.
Anyway, everyone knew this was going to be a tough year with so many new faces and the program rebuilding.
How about a little more realism and less concern with predictions and hopes for things they have never seen?
We haven’t started 3-0 since 1995 so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
I don’t understand why you schedule a non-conference game against a no name program thousands miles away in Texas? If you win the game you get no credit for beating a bad team if you lose you get slammed even worse for losing to a bad team. If we have to schedule away games against programs like this why not just schedule someone within a 200 mile bus trip?
Surprisingly, turnovers didn’t lose us the game today. we had 1:1 assist turnover ratio… Lamar had more turnovers (17) than assists (16).
What lost us the game was our horrible rebounding. I just don’t understand it either, we had been rebounding so well. Lamar just out hustled us today.
We shot 33.3% from the floor, 8-22 from 3land and a whopping 44% from FT. We were just ice cold with no energy! They must of had an extra large breakfast or something.
KJ played better than he had the first 2 games. Luka played better as well. Derrio was 5-15 from the floor but 5-9 from 3land. I have no problem with the 9 3 point attempts when we JB is cold and we have no real threat from the paint.
Overall this was a putrid game by Major and company.

Dude, we really don’t have many options. If we had a Nolan Smith on the bench I’d agree with you. But we don’t. He’s a Sr, that appears to have been a good student athlete and is proud to be a Niner. I for one am pulling for him.
Was asking the same question in the shout box earlier.
