Some people would probably scoff at the idea of Evans or Rose starting here as freshmen.
Woah, you’re equating Lamont Jones who’s not even in the Rivals Top 150 to guys who were top 5 guys in their respective classes.
Cmon, a little perspective here. He’s not even in the top 25 PGs or SGs for 2009. He got an “88” by ESPN (Scouts Inc). That’s pretty low if you follow their ratings, far from STUD status. The ONLY reason he would start at USC is the need for guards, which they would run a 3 guard lineup with Lewis and Hackett filling the 2 and 3 spots.
Too many people on here are overrating this guy. I’m guessing because he plays for Oak Hill? I don’t know.

Somebody thinks hes pretty good considering hes in the Jordan Brand all star game coming up. The game features mostly All Americans. Most of the players on the roster are 5 stars, a few 4 stars and two 3 start recruits. Jones is a 3 star recruit, and the other 3 star recruit is Marcus Jordan (go figure).

The Jordan Brand Classic is largely favored to guys heading to BCS programs or that undecided that BCS programs are currently after. The only guy that I remember recently from a non-BCS program (& excluding Memphis) was Chris Wright (Dayton). I think he was chosen before he signed with Dayton as well.
There’s a lot of upper tier non-BCS talent this year, Rashanti Harris (Georgia State), Aaric Murray (La Salle), Zeke Marshall (Akron), and Terrance Boyd (Western Kentucky). All of those guys are top 50 talent, but not one of them got invited to either All American Game.

i think the biggest reason he is only a three star is because a lot of scouts seem to question his size and whether he can adjust to being a full time point guard. i have seen this kid play, he should be a four star player. i would say however, that he is not a traditional point guard but more of a scoring guard, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

His chances of going to USC went way up on Friday as an article published by the LA Times has Daniel Hackett, Taj Gibson, and DeRozan declearing for the NBA Draft. Apparently Hackett will hire an agent, and Gibson won’t.
Hackett’s departure is most problematic for Coach Tim Floyd, leaving the Trojans without a point guard.
That need could be filled by Lamont Jones, a guard from Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy, who decommited from Virginia Tech and announced that he will visit USC later this month. The interest by Jones, who rescinded his commitment on March 12, could be heightened by the fact that there would be open competition at starting point guard.

The Oak Hill Academy point guard had a fantastic senior season and is headed toward a four-star ranking. Last weekend he visited USC, and according to Oak Hill coach Steve Smith the visit went well. “You could say that USC is leading, but the longer this takes you never know,” Smith said. “He is going to talk with his mom when he gets up to New York for the Jordan Brand Game. He is also talking about visiting Arizona, but this morning he said he wasn’t sure if he was going to do that.”
Sounds familiar, a team with no PG having a newcomer come in and a transfer PG coming in at Dec. Funny how things repeat themselves.
Including the transfer playing only one semester!
