Langston Wertz needs to get a clue

As if I didn’t detest that Tarhole brown noser enough before but looks like he’s at it again when it comes to slighting the 49ers or going out of his way to screw us with a recruit. In his writeup for the Bojangle’s tournament, he mentions that Jeff Hood (Langston’s good buddy who pretty much screwed us out of getting Morrow) was interested in bringing in Michael Beasley but not surprisingly, Langston fails to mention that he’s already committed to the Niners. And considering that Wertz uses Telep as a major resource of info, I find it hard to believe he wasn’t aware of Beasley’s decision.

Bojangle’s Shootout

Just another situation, in a long line of many, where Langston shows his true (baby blue) colors. I recall some posts awhile back where Real noted how Langston hurt us when we were going after Parker and he tried to get involved with Jobey and Demarco AFTER they signed with us. For some odd reason, he has an affect on some of these kids and can be a hindrance with our in-state recruiting. Just so typical that a Tarheel jock sniffer will never go out of their way to help a program like ours out.

Feel free to send your well wishes to Mr. Wertz at:

Mike P, we’ve mentioned Beasley upteen times either by JJ or other nationally known recruiting sites. What’s going on here?

wertz is a tomato. get a real writer in there.

Fire Wertz!!!

That story doesn’t mention any college commitments, so that evidently wasn’t its angle. If Jeff Hood starts selling the event using verbal commitments to universities, we better get mentioned.

I sent Langston a friendly note asking why they don’t wanna ever mention MB’s verbal. I’m genuinely curious, since there simply is no good or acceptable reason.

Can’t believe the O has never had a mention of Beasley.

The official response will be that since it is a verbal, no mention of it will be made in the Observer, although Antwon Coleman’s commitment was published on October 30, well before signing day.

Still, LW has never done the 49ers any favors.

The Observer is a joke, like pretty much every other print newspaper I’ve read. Save your 50 cents and read blogs/online pubs instead.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I read it. I’m sure Wertz and Hood are aware of it. It’s part of the reason why Hood would want Mike Beasley here. Remember the coverage Iti and Mt Zion got when he game.

For what it’s worth I got an email back from LW that said he didn’t know Beasley, didn’t know he committed, and if he did, he would write about it.

I have submitted before to charlotte.com a question based on Beasley’s committment to Q&A Forum, Langston Wertz. Apparently it was overlooked.

Oddly enough, the subject line was Re: Spam. This was from my @uncc.edu account.

That’s complete and total bull$hit.

Telep broke the Beasley story and Wertz has quoted him 100 times in the last week so I I refuse to believe that Langston wasn’t aware of the situation. Either Langston just chooses what he does very precisely or he’s completely out of the recruiting loop which I seriously doubt is the case.

Sorry but I’m not buying it when it comes to Langston and his love for the Holes and inability to ever give us a positive mention in the Observer.

Langston must be out of the loop then. Back when he verballed, Mike P said they had put in calls to his coach. The DC-Dalonte-Rodney-Eddie–Demon-Beasley connection seems like something the Observer prep guy would know about…even write about. BTW, I think Jason Jordan may be in the VA area now.

I thought this thread was going to be about a referee, but that’s Lenny Wertz. I hate Lenny Wertz.

“I thought this thread was going to be about a referee, but that’s Lenny Wertz. I hate Lenny Wertz.”

If Lenny Wertz had one more eye, he’d be a cyclops! OR
If he had one more brain, it would be lonely!

just got an email back from langston, he said that he didnt know that Beasley had verbally committed to charlotte

No doubt the Tar Heels are behind this. Another Tar Heel conspiracy!

ID, like I said, he was told by me at the VERY least me. There was no diligence displayed on his part. It’s okay. He’s just not a good reporter. That’s all.

I thought you might chime in! You’re the one who turned me against Wertz.

No doubt, Gamer contributing nothing positive to the program again.

FWIW, it's not Langston's job to cover recruiting outside our circulation area. I've now had two different reporters call the school and the AAU coach trying to get in touch with the kid. We've talked to people who weren't exactly pushing publication of the commitment. But we haven't talked with the kid or anyone who can comment on whether it's true, etc., without committing an NCAA violation. Langston was covering a tournament in which the kid WASN'T PLAYING. If you want to comment on Langston's skills, fine. If you want to make a racial comment like CLT's fake ignorance, I have no use for you. Langston has more status in this community than most anyone on this board. If the kid calls us back and says what he has said to Jason and apparently Telep, neither of whom I consider a source for this newspaper on commitments, we'll publish it. We use Telep to talk about kids he's seen play and comment on their skills, not as a "Dave Telep says X is committed" source. We publish commitments, contrary to what HP and others suggested, but our standard is we have to hear it from the kid or the kid's parent or coach, and know that there's an offer (usually more of an issue with football). I hope this kid shows up on campus. You all know as well as I do this is probably an "if I don't go to the NBA" commitment from a kid likely to bolt. Perhaps that's why he won't call us.
