Lost (May Contain Spoilers!!)

I think walt will become the new Richard, if he does come back. Might even be able explain growth then. But When john said that walt didn’t Have to come back I think he did it for walts sake. I thnk he was supposed to come back.

That was Locke’s flash sideways.

As far as MIB and back story, aren't we pretty sure it's Christian?

You have it backwards. We’re pretty sure that MiB has pretended to be Christian, although they left doubt in our mind because there was no body in his casket.

MiB was there at the time of the Black Rock landing on the island, so he’s far older than Christian.
Hmmm, time traveler Desmond??? Was he ever seen with the MIB?
I have no idea in what role but I am convinced that Desmond will have a HUGE role to play in all this before it is all said and done.

He does seem important. They gave him a nice backstory etc.

I know it isn’t definite, but the bomb that Richard just dropped (at the start of the episode), someone called it earlier!

woah… great episode. I dont even know where to begin!

So this may not be anything, but kind of made me wonder… Richard goes to the New World via the Black Rock. They set sail out of the Canary Islands, and land on the island. It just seems their route was odd. The Canary’s are off the NW coast of Africa, and were a Portugese or Spanish colony, and we all know the island is in the Pacific (or is it since it can apparently move?). Now, yes they could have gone through the Straits of Magellan, but that seems trivial to do as most slave trade was done in the Caribbean and to risk your life over the passage of slaves in that manner seems stupid. May be something to think about, maybe it’s nothing.

Didn’t Jacob said he made the ship go to the island to play his little game?

Great episode. The best of this season. Richard’s backstory was a little cliche but I was fine with it especially since Campbell did a great job with it. I had no idea he could actually act.

How about the MiB telling Richard the same thing that Dogen told Sayid? Stab him before he talks. But Jacob talked to Ben before he was stabbed. And Jacob also fought back against Richard while he didn’t against Ben. Has to be all part of Jacob’s plan.

They definitely aren’t in hell, that’s just what Richard believed because he lost faith in Jacob.

Jacob seemed to have no issue bringing people to the island and watching them die. All to prove to the MiB that people are good? I hope it’s more than a game to them.

How old are Jacob and the MiB? I have to assume now that they were around prior to ancient Egyptian mythology and aren’t actually Egyptian gods. They are old.

I thought of that but also thought it was more a figure of speech. In reality; however, I have no idea.

I don’t thing Richard ever saw Jacob coming and Jacob beat the snot out of him.

I find it odd how MiB and Jacob and sit and have a chat while one just tried to kill the other.

I think the writers of Lost have been doing a great job this season, stumbled a bit in the beginning but definitely picked up the pace this year!

I think Richard’s reference to hell was to answer a lot of fan’s questions about it, I don’t think they are in hell. Richard became the slave of a man named Hanson, hence the Hanso Foundation. In order for MIB to get off the island he has to kill everyone, Richard knows this which is why he told Sawyer that MIB wants him dead (when they met in the woods).

Couple things I noticed that didn’t seem plausible:
The Black Rock crashes into the stone statue and remains largely intact once it comes to rest in the middle of the island. Since when does wood beat rock? The boat should have been smashed to pieces. Secondly if the storm destroyed the statue, where is it? Logic says the statue would fall into the island not into the ocean, even if it feel into the ocean the sea is not going to carry something that big out to sea. Just an observation.

Jacob decides to defend himself against Richard, yet he lets Ben stab him with a knife?

In regards to the Canary islands, I read this on another site and thought it was interesting; the island Richard sailed from is rumored to be the peak of Atlantis which sunk, and we saw the island underwater at the beginning of the season.

Edit: Looks like some people beat me to the punch on my comments. One additional observation; Ben referred to Jack as Shepherd, I wonder if that was a hint.

I was thinking he brought the island to the boat, but…

Also, reading up quickly on the Canary Islands, there are 7, but there is the myth of an 8th that has been spotted and at times landed on by sailors, but you’ll never see it on a map.

I think he has to kill or convert them. But he can’t directly kill then, or he would have done so already. He needs others to do so.

Judging from what Jacob said, MIB only really wants to kill Jacob, or the person in charge, since he is the ‘cork’ holding back the evil.

I don’t know for sure, but something about this reminds me of another story. I know the theme is used often, but the ‘good’ holding back the ‘evil’ in a jail/prison reminds me of something specific.

I really enjoyed a complete answer to why the Survivors are on the island. I was a little shocked to learn that Jacob didn’t know that MiB could corrupt his examples. To my understanding, Jacob brought people to the island to prove to MiB that people were inherently good and would do the right thing. But he doesn’t interfere so I am assuming thats why he didnt know his people were being corrupted and thats why they were being killed. (this also seems like a common theme, but the one specifically in Lost seems very familiar).

The gf was online with losties and they were chatting during the show. An interesting point brought up during their discussion was the biblical theme with Jacob, MiB , Richard and their relationship to people.

The part with Hurley was touching, I can’t wait for next episode!

The Biblical stuff is everywhere. Did anyone notice the cut away to the big tree on the Island. It happened a couple of times and at the end Locke was show in the fore ground of it. It seems like a reference to the tree of life / Garden of Eden.

The recurring Biblical theme to me is free will which can be debated to the end of time based off of your belief systems.

If it is Hell then that means someone can go get you and bring you to Hell.

How can Hurley speak in tongues? He is speaking fluently in a dialect over 150 years old very specific to that Isalnd.

I am becoming more convinced that Jacob and MIB are brothers. Locke talking about Claire and having a “crazy mother” starting solidying that thought to me.

When did Hurley speak in tongues? Pretty sure he was speaking Spanish, maybe Portugese which isn’t all that much different. He is Spanish afterall.

Just kidding with the speaking in tongues since I was discussing the religion aspect but the Isalnd they were from was very remote and probably has a very distinct dialect so I thought it was interesting he was communicating so easily. I also thought it was interesting how they emphasised Richard and his wife learning English but I understand tyin up the plot line with that.

My wife is from the Philippines and her Mom still speaks tagalog when she calls back there but there is a huge variance on it from island to island even now. Just something that jumped out to me which will never mean anything like 90@ of the things on Lost.

Richard also seemed to kill a “bad” person which ties into the theme of the show.A somewhat “justifiable” action. Accident and he wa a bad person. etc.

The season finale from a year or 2 ago that first introduced Jacob and the MIB had them sitting on the beach staring out into the ocean with a ship heading towards land. I was fairly certain that this ship was the Black Rock. But that doesnt really jive with last nights episode of Black Rock crashing into the statue at night during a storm. Whats the deal?

To be fair the ship was still relatively far offshore if I remember correctly.
