Lost (May Contain Spoilers!!)

And they never actually told us it was the Black Rock. In that discussion we heard that they had done this many times. So it may have just been another boat.

Jacob seems to have an Obi-wan vibe going on. He fought against Richard yet allowed Ben to kill him, just like Obi-wan allowed Vader to kill him. He told Vader he would become more powerful than he could imagine and then goes on dispensing advice and appearing to Luke and now we see Jacob guiding Hurley and appearing to him. And if you recall last season when Sawyer’s group went back in time, Hurley talked about writing the Empire Strikes Back!

Maybe the island is the Death Star? ;D

Richard was reading St. Luke in the Bible when his father came. I think it was 4:24 in st. luke…any meaning behind that?

Jacob told Richard that this “GAME” had been going on for years/centuries and that no one he brought to the island has ever survived. Then had a blank face when Richard told him that the MiB actually physically involves himself in the game. I mean the MiB went on a rampage and killed all the offercers! I would have thought Jacob didnt have a realistic view of whats going on in the game.
The MiB can just kill anyone that is brought to the island at anytime he wants unless Jacob can somehow get to them first and and put them in something like a temple, behind a force field, or touch them. Knowing what I know know I think I would hang out with the MiB and and then play the same game the Sawyer is playing.
A few people have made it off the island since Richard first came (Witmore, Walt, Desmond, Aaron) but the “protector” can bring them back anytime he wants. I know they are trying to pertray Jacob as the good/nobel guy here but COME ON!

Not sure if that’s the same ship or not. But they’ve had discontinuity with the day/night thing for a while. They’ll show a group walking at night, cut away, then the next time they go back to them it’s daytime.
Great episode. The best of this season. Richard’s backstory was a little cliche but I was fine with it especially since Campbell did a great job with it. I had no idea he could actually act.

How about the MiB telling Richard the same thing that Dogen told Sayid? Stab him before he talks. But Jacob talked to Ben before he was stabbed. And Jacob also fought back against Richard while he didn’t against Ben. Has to be all part of Jacob’s plan.

They definitely aren’t in hell, that’s just what Richard believed because he lost faith in Jacob.

Jacob seemed to have no issue bringing people to the island and watching them die. All to prove to the MiB that people are good? I hope it’s more than a game to them.

How old are Jacob and the MiB? I have to assume now that they were around prior to ancient Egyptian mythology and aren’t actually Egyptian gods. They are old.
It does seem like that. But at the same time MIB said Jacob would not let him go. So while they appear to be opposing forces, Jacob seems to have the upper hand.

Still confused how the MIB picks who it kills and who it doesn’t. The story about Richard kind of makes sense why it doesn’t kill him. But yet it also doesn’t kill Sayid and Ben. Didn’t it let Eko go one time, only to kill him later?

Yeah seems very random - and it killed all of Widmore’s guys at Ben’s request. I am just going to assume that he is looking at people that he thinks he can use later and allows them to live.

That’s my assumption as well. Other school of thought is that he can’t kill candidates, but I do not believe “Alpert” was in the lighthouse or the cave.

He tried to manipulate Eko with his dead brother but it didn’t work so no reason to keep him around any longer.

That is one thing that seems consistent - he reads your past and “uses” them to manipulate you into what he wants you to do by pulling people that you most cared about to drive your thought process. He did it with Alex and Ben.

That’s what I mean too. Not necessarily anything to do with good or bad. Just whether or not he can use them.

Also, why does Jacob even need a candidate? He appears to not age like Richard.

Contingency plan? It isn’t that he couldn’t die so much as he hadn’t died.

Sorry! I thought this thread was about the 2009-2010 men’s basketball season. :)) :)) :)) :)) :))

Jacob doesn’t help the people. Richard does. So mostly people are on their own unless they go to Jacob to ask him his thoughts.

Does anyone know what happened when Flock took Richard into the jungle and told him to talk to he real Lock and knew exackly where he was going to appear? He told Richard some instructions to give the real Lock before he time traveled again. Can’t think of what that was about to save my life right now.
Just kidding with the speaking in tongues since I was discussing the religion aspect but the Isalnd they were from was very remote and probably has a very distinct dialect so I thought it was interesting he was communicating so easily. I also thought it was interesting how they emphasised Richard and his wife learning English but I understand tyin up the plot line with that.

My wife is from the Philippines and her Mom still speaks tagalog when she calls back there but there is a huge variance on it from island to island even now. Just something that jumped out to me which will never mean anything like 90@ of the things on Lost.
I think they pointed out him learning english so there is no holes in the story.

Watch, the end is going to be something controversial and kind of lame like the Sopranos. Their going to be sitting in the plane and they just wake up from a ‘flash forward’ and its all one big commercial for that show LOL

He helped him with his injury. Locke asked how he knew he’d be there. Richard said because you told me. I believe that was also the time Richard gave him the compass, so that Richard would know that he talked to Locke during the time traveling.

Regardless of how the show ends some people will love it, some will hate it. I’m not going to base my opinion on a show on the last episode. I haven’t enjoyed any show as much as I have Lost. They’ve done a very good job with this series so whatever they come up with for the end, I’ll just accept it.

Luke 4:24: And He said, “Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.”

Lame was too strong of a word. Uneventful, with a black screen is what I meant.

I thought it was the greatest ending to a series ever. It was perfect and keeps the story alive.
