Okay, this thread has gotta be close to being moved to the smack forum (never mind, by the time I posted it already had), which is sad considering its original purpose, and considering no one has really had anything overly negative to say about Coach Lutz.
Richfieldniner, I’ve only been coming here for a few weeks now, so I don’t really know anyone on here. In fact, I’ve never met anyone on here, and never really gotten into any sort of conversation with anyone. I try to stay out of as much of the bickering as possible, but this has simply gotten out of hand. Sideshow never said he thinks Bobby is a bad coach, and no one else really seemed to be offended by his remarks. A sampling of what he had to say:

[b]I addressed the recruiting and gave Lutz his due in that respect. And comparing Lutz to Sendek is irrelevant, because I don't think Sendek is a great coach either. Matter of fact I think Lutz is much better than Sendek, but I still don't think Lutz is one of the gods of coaching that so many people do.[/b]Once more, nothing overly negative. I think Bobby's a really good coach, but that's [i]my[/i] opinion. Sideshow's entitled to his opinion, and I respect the fact that he's willing to stand by it, even when challenged. Comparing Bobby to Herb Sendek is ridiculous, and I think anyone in the country would be willing to admit that. Sendek has had some really good talent over the years he's been there, and hasn't been able to do a whole lot with it. Lutz has arguably done more with less talent, but that doesn't necessarily make him a great coach. Like I said, I still think he's a really good coach and great for the program, but I don't believe that he's anywhere near the greatest coach ever.
[b]For the record, I only said I thought Lutz is overrated, because so many people like Bob Huggins and countless color commentators say he's a genious. I didn't say I think he's a bad or even an average coach. I don't. I think he's a solid coach, but not the second coming of Wooden or anything.[/b]The only negative thing there is that he said Lutz isn't a coaching genius. He did, however, say that Bobby's a solid coach. Couple that with the comment about being a good recruiter, and that's really not that negative at all.

For a while, this thread was about voicing your opinion on Bobby, particularly if you liked the guy. Ok. I heard that call. I thought you did good overall. Jansen was being an idiot. he claimed to have seen us play and covered Plavich. Then he called him Brandan Plavish or something like that. You should have reemed him on that.
As for Lutz, he is far from overrated. I heard Duke has 6 high school all-americans. I wonder what Lutz would do with 1 every couple of years. Niners never had one, ever. We do have some very good talent but they didn’t come in highly ranked. Basden became a man here. Withers is doing the same. Mitch has turned into an out of control athlete to an effective PG.
Lutz and staff get an A grade from me.

I think Lutz is a very good (not great) coach. But, he is GREAT for the program, in my opinion.

Getting back to the original topic which, I believe, was the kind of coach Lutz is…
I remember hearing Mel Watkins, during his last year in Charlotte, say that Lutz could read a play coming downcourt better than any other coach he’d ever met. Of course, that’s in the “For What It’s Worth” category since Mel is no longer the head coach at TX A&M but the Asst Head Coach at Missouri.
Question for you guys… (I don’t get much UNCC news out here in the hinterlands. Just what I can glean from this board and the occasional story in the Observer online) I saw another thread that mentioned Lutz leaving. What’s up with that? Is there a serious chance of that or is that just an iffy rumor?
