Luke Maye - 2015 PF offer - verbal to UNC-CH

From what my friend that knows his family well told me, we can beat most ACC schools for him except for 3, possibly 4 and Clemson isn’t one of them
UNC, Duke, NC State, and ??? Louisville would be my guess. I only include NCSU since they’re a state school.

Recent Davidson commit KiShawn Pritchett (Lake Norman H.S.) is hoping Maye will join him in the A-10.

Lakenormancitizen.com: Pritchett felt like ‘a priority’ for Davidson

i think we can get this kid. we were the first on him and he seems to still be considering us. if we lose him, i think it will be to clemson.

Would love to have both him and Rajon Tucker.

I think Clemson is our biggest competition unless Maye wants to take the Jackson Simmons route.

not to nitpick but maye is a significantly more highly rated recruit than simmons but i agree, unc would be a mistake. tucker just took an official to fgcu, so who knows what he is thinking.

They typically go after long, athletic bigs, that is certainly not Maye. Tucker visited FGCU during Clemson’s elite camp, hopefully that means he’s not enamored with going to the biggest name school that offers him.

24/7 sports website (don’t know if its up to date) says Luke took an unofficial to Tennessee back on June 14, he came to Charlotte for an official visit on August 1st and then went back for another unofficial to Tennessee on August 22nd… doesn’t show any dates for Clemson. However, it does show Charlotte, Tennessee, Clemson and UNCheat as the strongest interest. No offer listed from UNCheat yet.

I don’t really feel good about our chances of getting him, but I’m glad we’re still in the running.

I don’t feel good about him because I feel like we’re his fall back option. I just don’t feel like he’d ever want to be here, even if it is the most ideal location for him.

Yeah, especially since he went BACK to UT after visiting us. Doesn’t sound good.

Tennessee has landed 3 PF’s (all Freshmen) already for this season (2014 class). I think a lot of this will come down to playing time for him and after his Fr year here, he’ll be the go to guy in our front court. I’m not sure what Clemson’s or Davidson’s front court looks like.

Have to believe UNC-CH is offering the Jackson Simmons plan for Maye.

Stole this from the Davidson board:

Latest on Luke Maye

More to report on the status of the 2015 power forward from Hough High School in Cornelius, N.C., who we talked about last week.

In that initial report, Maye was said to have some sort of an offer from his dream school…UNC, the same place where his dad played quarterback. As it turns out, Maye does have a full scholarship offer from the Tar Heels, not a greyshirt, not a preferred walk-on position, but a full scholarship to join the basketball program.

We’re told that UNC offered Maye right before he visited Clemson two Fridays ago. And, according to what we are hearing, Maye could have a decision made by this time next week.

This was posted on August 26th.

Remember, Simmons got a scholarship too, I believe after paying his way for 1 year. That hasn’t lead to much PT.

From what I hear, Maye doesn’t sound like a kid that wants to be 10th on a depth chart.

Problem with that line of thinking is, I guarantee ol’ Roy isn’t telling him thats what he will be and I’m willing to bet he doesn’t think he will be that far down the list either. All of these kids think they will “get there and get big time minutes”.

He can sit the bench there and tell his children how his daddy was a great tarheel QB and how he was a great tarheel bench player.

I’m sure the kid has plenty of talent, but he really does not seem to fit the mold of a UNC player. I’d ALMOST rather see him go to Davidson than UNC if we are knocked out of the running because I hate seeing players waste their talents with bad decisions. Only almost though. I can’t stomach a top 150 player going to Davidson over Charlotte.

I think a lot kids make their decision with this somewhat in mind. If I know I am not good enough to go pro, and I start to think how I want to make myself sound for the rest of my life saying “I was a basketball player for a big 5 school” beats “I was a basketball player for some non big 5 school”. In most conversations people do not ask for MPG or PPG or anything like that. They say “Oh wow cool” and then move on to other things. (Mostly because they will not have something nearly as interesting to talk about). So I do understand the thought process. It just will come down to how does he want to spend his next four years, vs. how he wants to talk at bars and parties for the rest of his life.

clt says UNC CHeat does offer a degree without attending class, so that is a plus.
clt says UNC CHeat does offer a degree without attending class, so that is a plus.
Plus he can emulate his coach and become a slack jawed, self centered, pompous blowhard. That’ll get him far in life.

Well, far be it from me to defend a Tarheel, but, Roy’s coached two National Powerhouses and won two titles and makes serious coin. I hate UNCCh but I’d love to emulate that…
