Lutz apologists where are you...

On the opposite side ChicagoNiner. Anyone who defends this team becomes a target. I would suggest you read some of the posts replying to EJNiner. He is being rediculed because he still has faith in this team. I think its time for everyone to take a cold drink, sit down and reflect on the real problems in this world. All this arguing and nastiness over a basketball team, Its a game gang and that is all it is.

Originally posted by NinerLoudNProud@Mar 11 2005, 09:40 AM The team has given up 80+ points in three straight losses. If anyone is defending any aspect of the team right now, they're f'n retarded.

I’ll give you this though, you apologists sure do play better defense than the team does.

Good post.

My only problem with Lutz is the defense and he is largely responsible for that. He has got to stop trapping all over the floor. It rarely creates a TO, however it creates wide open threes and dunks for the opponent.

Also, he has got to get Plavich off the floor in games like last night. Memphis and Louisville are bad matchups for Plav because he is too f’n slow to stay with anyone. I don’t care how many times Lutz says ā€œhe stretches the defenseā€, if he is getting torched every time down the floor, I really don’t care if he stretches the defense another five feet on the other end.

And don’t even get me started on his shot selection last night…

No, he is being ridiculed because he is being insulting in the process of defending Lutz.

Is that shot selection…or shot REJECTION?

A really tall guy ??? What team in Division one doesn't have a least one guy that is 6-9 ???

OK, I’ll give you that. But how many teams in Division one have all those other players that we have?

I think ChicagoNiner and NinerLoudNProud said it all on page 3. Check it out.

I guess that's why Watkins was here for 20+ years as a player and a coach. That was one BIG stepping stone he had to get over.

Watkins is doing real nice these days…as an assistant!!! Texas A&M is 19-9 this year too.
Then go get a coach who’ll use us to a sweet 16. After him get another coach who’ll use us to an elite 8. That’s how some of the top programs today have been built, by ā€œstepping stoneā€ coaches. If we don’t make a gamble one day we’ll never get rich. Maybe it doesn’t have to be now, but I’d give Bobby one year in the A-10. No Conference Champ should = New Coach.

Just 1 name. Who are you talking about? Just give me 1 name.

I think that their are a ton of quality coaches out their. Sometimes though an AD has to dig. After all that is their job.

For the Niners my List (should Bobby bolt/resign/retire):

 1. Orlando Early–If Lutz Bolts I would jump at the chance to get Orlando. He recruited well here, he’s recruited well at Bama. He knows his stuff. He brings the experience of having worked for Gotfried in Bama. He has ties and would be the best fit IMO if Bobby jumps ship.

 2. Matt Doherty–I know many people have problems with recycled coaches, but I think he could return and be very successful. He’s a dynamic recruiter (UNC is all his team sans Marvin Williams). He’s had success in the past. His problem was that he couldn’t deal with the ego’s at Carolina. Shouldn’t be a problem here.

 3. Vince Taylor–An assistant at Louisville, played his college ball at Duke so he is familiar with the area. Was coached by Coach K and groomed by Pitino. Say what you will but Pitino’s disciples have all been pretty succesful. I wouldn’t mind going out of the family and grabbing an up and coming guy.

I think these guys would all fit in to our system here and help it grow.

You could also throw Greg Marshall on the list, but I’m hesitant to hire a coach with no major conference experience.

Lutz is a good coach.
Change the Center Iti or the AD Rose, but leave Lutz alone. He’s not the one that was half-assing on the court.

You’r rather have Orlando Early than Bobby?

What has he done?

As for Doh, he tore down 30 years of good work in about hald an hour in Chapel Hill.

I’ll pass on both. I’d rather have Bobby, which is what I though this thread was about.

If Bobby can’t take us to the sweet 16, isn’t at least time to consider a new option. He’s been here for what 7 years now? We’ve had the talent here to be Sweet 16 material. You can only blame the players for 4 years.

We haven’t been Sweet 16 material.
He’s doing much better than Mullins. Mullins had 3 appearances in 11 years. Watkins had 2 in 2, & Lutz has had this year will be I think 7 of 8 or 6 of 7.
We’re getting to Sweet 16 territory. I’m disappointed about the 3 game sorry streak, but you don’t fire a coach over 3 games. Let’s be realistic.

You want a new coach, you come up with the $'s. It will be exspensive and you can kiss any chance of football goodbye. We’d have to borrow money just to get out of the contract and a new coach any better then what we have will cost even more. Be careful what you wish for.

and how do you think the talent got here?
No it’s not time to consider a new option. I don’t think we’ve had top 16 talent. Count the 1st round draft picks on this team? Count the guys who will play and contribute on the next level.
We’ve got guys who work hard, but they are not top 16 talent.

But instead you want to rid of Bobby and bring in coaches who have less experience and less success.
Bobby has been to the dasnce on the bench more than any person in Charlotte history. Do you think that’s luck???
We’ve been bounced out of our tourney in the first round and I’m not worried about us not dancing. We are in the dance, and THAT is the place that our program or any other program should be happy to be.

We starting to, as Charlotte fans, feel entitiled, as if we deserve success.
Guess what? That’s the first step to being a Memphis fan.
We won 21 games this season thus far. we didn’t win them, because teams laid down. Success is earned and this season our guys earned the right to watch selection Sunday to check our seeding, not to worry about us being in.

Should we have lost three straight? Perhaps not, but to expect to win them because we showed up is poor thinking and that’s what we’re starting to do.

What is success for this program? Thats the real question. Do you believe that making the NCAA's every year and winning an NCAA game once every 3 years with a conference championship here or there, success? Is that what you want out of this team? Are you satisfied with that?

I don’t believe anyone is discounting that Lutz has taken this team a loonnnnnnng way. But at some point you have to think long and hard about is this program improving or is it staying the same. It’s great making the NCAA’s consistantly. That’s a big step, no doubt. But how bout winning a game in the NCAA’s if not winning two. I want this program to improve and to show something in the NCAA’s.
