Lutz says State rumor is UNTRUE on NinerReport.com

Originally posted by hootie@Feb 3 2005, 07:37 PM Do you think we have a better program than Clemson?
Yes.

QUOTE (Mike_Persinger @ Feb 3 2005, 04:32 PM)

The only concern you should have for Lutz is his competitive nature. If he can sign the players he wants to be able to compete against the best then he will stay. If he can not then he will leave if approached by the right situation. Now with that being said you must look at the players he has missed out on and where they have gone. Jack /GT, Wafer / FSU, Rivers / Clemson, Morrow / GT , Garrison / Mary., Gray / WFU, Jones / Mary., Parker / Chapel Hill. It is a tough gig at Charlotte and if you are competitive it must be very frustrating to think “what if” a lot when you are thinking about all these kids that you were close to signing but no cigar.

Coach has said in the past that success comes largely from being able to keep the staff intact. Outside of getting key recruits (*note that says “key recruits”, not McD’s or #1 prospects), I think the ability to maintain staff continuity/cohesion is a big part of whether or not he would entertain outside offers. If there comes a time when he feels like his assistants are not getting their fair share, then I am sure he would entertain other possibilities. After all, the assistants do a lot of recruiting, developing relationships (with players, coaches, and families), and if the person that recruited a player is not going to be there, why consider going there?

Then there is also the fact that “money talks”. We all know that there are plenty of schools who could offer coach a bundle more than he is making now. We’d all like to think that “he’s not in it for the money”… but think of it this way; How many of you wouldn’t be tempted to take an offer for you to do your same job if someone was offering you 75% more $$$?

Let’s see… such an offer would get me up to the $1.75/hour range… hell yeah, I’d take that!!!

Persinger is a tool and always has been end of story on that …

Saying Lutz would consider taking a job at State is like saying Persinger would consider taking a job at the Washington Post, only difference is State would actually want Lutz, and not a has been editor of a drastically fallen off sports section.

Stop me when I’m lying…

Well of course he’d consider it, it’s a storied program.

Will he go… NAH!!!

GO NINERS!!

Originally posted by lucky57@Feb 3 2005, 05:57 PM Hey man...I love the niners. But if you don't think our coach thinks its a step up to go to the #1 basketball conf. in the country, probably double his salary..and coach and recruit against K and ROY...pass the weed! I'm not saying he's gonna leave,or that I want him to.But looking at the situation from the outside, somewhat objectively...where's he gonna make a bigger name,Charlotte or State? Just turn on your tv if you're not sure.
It's not always as you suggest. Huggins turned down Ohio State and West Virginia to stay at Cincy. Coach K turned down the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers to stay at Duke. John Kresse has turned down numerous offers (one being Clemson) to stay at the College of Charleston. Rick Barnes left the ACC for the Big 12. Bob Mckillop has turned down offers to stay at Davidson. Dave Odom left the ACC for the SEC. Larry Brown and George Karl turned down UNC to stay in the NBA. Lon Kruger...well maybe not him, he left for the first thing shiny every time.
Originally posted by Mike_Persinger@Feb 3 2005, 04:32 PM Or he could talk about the home-and-home with Duquesne.
at least our AD is excited about it.

Normm, what’s shakin’ ? (I’ll answer, all 4 cheeks and a couple of chins). Not to nitpick, but I don’t think Karl was offered the job.

But, if you like Cheers, you’re a palomine.

OK, maybe a lttle picky. So I’ll take away Karl and say Roy Williams turned down UNC one time to stay at Kansas. Had he won a championship at Kansas in that time he probably would have stayed there.

Barnes and Odom left because they knew they could never really recruit against the big boys!

Nice job on the Duquense home and home Mike, I would have assumed the editor of the local sports section would have checked out to see who Charlottes mirror games were before he posted a smart ass response.

Would you assume he knows how many Charlotte’s only major D1 bball program’s arena seats? Cause he doesnt seem to know that either! :o :stuck_out_tongue:

Relax, no one here has even mentioned Lutz

I searched for Lutz on this N.C. State board and they’re not talking about him. They want a “big-name” coach to compete with/recruit against Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams. If Sendek is fired, they’ll look to make a splash.

By the way, Halton seats 9,105 and I could care less at this point who next season’s mirror games are. You should all just hope they’re not among those bottom four, giving you two games against sub-250 RPI schools.

Mike or Mark Packer? Wow Mike. Are you enjoying this? Our mirror games are with Richmond, Dayton, and George Washington SO you don't get your wish.

We’ll be fine as long as we improve our OOC schedule. Next year Indiana and most likely Miss St will be in Halton.

Sure about that? ← he is mentioned several times in that thread, and I have seen him mentioned in several others on that board. I don’t think their search feature is working.

Get informed Mike, it's old news. Dayton, George Washington and Richmond are not exactly chopped liver and certainly not ever among the bottom feeders of any league.

The Observer ran a story by David Scott on our A-10 mirror games on May 27th, 2004, so all Mike had to do was check the Big O’s archives.

Kind of like the State position?

is it safe to say we are headed in the wrong direction?

maybe the Southwestern 4A will be looking for a game or two, maybe even a new member to thier conference.

at least our AD is in good politically with other AD’s.

The A-10 is not the greatxst, but have you seen the crap we’re leaving behind. Tulane will be an 11-5 team next year.
