Coach said he wants to get the team practicing, and make the most of the recruiting period. I expect some MAJOR recruits coming in soon. I also like Coach’s recruiting philosophy about not being territorial. As we get his list of assistant coaches, and who they have recruited for next year, as well as when guys start to pop up, it’s going to be very interesting what we fill our roster with.
Will we be going after some of the same recruits we were hitting before? Does Coach and his future assistants have a plan to bring in some of their guys already? I think the assistants and the recruits they get will be a very big piece of the puzzle for next year. Long term, I am excited about coach, but I think if we can get some decent roll players in, we can be in contention for the top 3 in the A10 next year, it just depends on who we get.
Pending the assistant hires, Coach Major needs to hit the trail, unless some of these guys are coming with recruits in tow. He has said that he wants to work on his staff and the existing team first, but recruiting needs to be a priority.

Unless of course he means getting Deuce inked and possibly Shamarr Bowden as well. Deuce is definitely a priority. Beyond those two, I don’t see us signing anyone during the current April period unless, as I said, they are already strongly associated with some of the new staff through previous recruiting efforts.

The forward from Clemson is getting calls from a dozen big name schools, so he’s probably off the board. I would love to see us call JT Terrell though, and anyone else we’ve previously recruited, as long as that’s legal.

Has Davis inked at UCF?

My sense of urgency is misplaced if Coach already has some guys in mind, so I’m trying to take this with a grain of salt. But bottom line, we need at least a backup PG, and that assumes we invite Bowden back.
Unlike current players, recruits typically are released from their NLIs if a coach is fired. I can’t help but think that Wake’s recruiting class is looking at the coach that they have just hired and thinking “no way I am spending my four years under this guy”. If they jump back into the recruiting pool they face the problem that the other schools that they may have considered have now signed someone else and have no slots. Hopefully this works in our favor. Maybe we should offer them a package deal and take them all!
Terrell would be huge for us. I would love to see Major find a raw big man that can RS and learn from him for a year.
PG is key, I hope Briscoe is staying. We need a solid one.
Haven’t they already locked Briscoe up on a scholarship? I thought I read that.
I would be all for him keeping 2 of the 4 available scholarships open until next season, when he has a full year to recruit for our program.
We have good pieces in place, so a backup PG and maybe a SG would be good for now. I don’t want to see scholarships wasted on late signee players who end up “transferring a year or two later”. We need to move past that type of recruiting.
So we will have 3 additional scholarships coming open after the 10-11 season?
I know that we are looking to get Vandross from Boston University and he has ties in that area. I wonder if Carson Desrosiers will get released from Wake…he’s from Lawrence, MA…
I can’t see JT Terrell coming here with the possibility that Bowden will return. Terrell will be a starter wherever he goes.
I agree. I’d take Terrell over Bowden, as I’m sure most would.
i dont understand why bowden would come back?
major emphasized defense yesterday and bowden plays none of that…
Defense will be emphasized more with the new staff, and Bowden will be made to play defense if he wants to play at all. I don’t think Bowden is a great defender, but I think he can and will play better defense or he won’t see the floor. With Coach Lutz, Bowden’s playing time hinged more on how well he shot the ball. With Coach Major, the emphasis will be different. So, either a) Bowden will play better defense this go-round or b ) he will be one with the bench.
Boston U has like 7 recruits coming in next year. None are flashy names (mostly 2 stars on Rivals and Scout), but a few did have good grades on ESPN. All we really need is a backup PG and SG and we are fine for next year. I’d like to see us grab a big man though with Spears and Jones both graduating after next season. Unless Major molds Sirin or Barnett into well rounded players that can play inside or out, we’re not going to have any veteran depth at the 4/5 in 2011.

Not saying that Bowden will not return. However, there are a lot of hoops to jump before that would be possible. Meaning gaining eligibility is difficult at best.
I am not on the take Shamarr back bandwagon, but if Deleware has lost scholarships they will have to release some kids and volunteers would probably be the way to start.

This, exactly…geez people, we saw the kid for ~1/2 of his freshman season and therefore he’s a lost cause…come on. Not to mention the fact that one of the MAJOR reasons we hired Major is because he has a reputation of developing players…duh, do you think when you consider all this that MAYBE Bowden might improve under Major’s tutelage? :
