Matt Johnson - QB - Verbal Commit

Welcome to Niner Nation, Mr. Johnson.

10/6 interview

Kid sounds pretty intelligent. Thatā€™s always a bonus in any player but especially a QB.

This kid looks like he fits Mullenā€™s mold pretty well. As he described at Chalk Talk, he wants a QB that can throw the ball around but work in the spread and run if needed. This guy wonā€™t be a run first QB but is big enough to run and take a few hits. A guy like this will really benefit from a year of nutrition/lifting/practice and worse case scenario if someone beats him out for QB he can play defense. Thatā€™s the key right now for this staff - the more athletes they recruit that have played multiple positions, the better.

I live in Hickory and work with people who have season tickets for Maiden football. My understanding is that he is a good kid and a good athlete. I expect him to be a contributor and I welcome him to Charlotte.

Have I paid my penance?

Again, Welcome Matt. Sorry, but some people on this board are nerds. If you have a train in mind for them, please send us the road crossing to direct anyone on this board to that is interested in taking the jump. I donā€™t care about semantics. I only care that you are Niner material now.

Maiden boasted the conferenceā€™s top offense, averaging over 385 yards a game but managed only 154 in trailing 14-10 at the half. The Blue Devils erupted for 245 yards after the break and squeezed a Matt Johnson 11-yard score between Jenkinsā€™ touchdowns in finding the end zone on their first three possessions.

ā€œIt came down to us containing their offense, and that was something we didnā€™t do in the second half,ā€ said Trojans head coach Randy Lowman. ā€œAnd when you have to concentrate on stopping (Johnson), (Jenkins) can kill you.ā€

Johnson provides the conferenceā€™s top dual threat, entering the evening ranked third in the league (840 yards) and second in passing (644 yards). The Maiden senior signal caller finished with 104 yards on 24 carries and added 90 yards on 6-of-16 passing with one interception.

Moved a lot of posts that were way off topic to a separate thread. Certainly discussion on the level of Mattā€™s talent is appropriate but the thread became about FBS vs. FCS, DI-A vs. DI-AA. Letā€™s keep that separate. Love you guys and welcome to Niner Nation, Matt!

thank you very much, NLP.
and welcome for sure, matt! do it this season, and the second season down the road!!!

Thanks NLP. Those posts had gone way overboard.

Nice game when you are the focus of the D in almost every game. Hopefully he can get more accurate with his passsing (or more talented receivers) and the completion % improves.

Big thanks go to NLP for taking action.

Big thanks to NinerID for the information.

This player looks like he can be a major contributor one day.

Wait a secondā€¦NLP is a moderator?

What kind of nonsense is this? First 2k, now NLP.

Johnson has been running track for quite sometime so obviously he has the potential to be a strong running QB or safety. But if we get a couple of big lineman to block for him then I am very interested to see what he can do.

Iā€™ve heard that Johnson was our #1 priority at QB.
