Michael Beasley - 2007 (Ranked #2 overall)
Beasley once beat Jesus Shuttlesworth in one on one, then did the same to Bill Brasky… :shades:
That’s only because Antwon ate Brasky’s leg.

per scout.com
Mike Beasley, PF, Oak Hill – His free throw proved to be the game-winner as his final effort at the Hoop Fest yielded 15 and 9 to go along with a slam dunk championship. The game comes relatively easy to this ultra-talented forward with a smooth lefty touch and plenty of bounce inside. Overall, he’s got so many ways to score that he’s a big time weapon. We’re talking a player of the year candidate in the A-10 early on for Charlotte. He’s that good.
:hammer:

Beasley had 31 points, 18 rebounds and 6 blocks in Oak Hills last win over Providence day school.

He had 28 against Statesville Christian the other night. He and Nolan Smith continue to lead the team while UNC Chapel Hill recruit, Tywon Lawson sits out because of suspension.

what a great story on “TMB”:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

Oak Hill Tonight 6:00 PM on ESPN U, if you have it. I don’t.

i will tell you all this… i live in DC and the talk on Beasley is that he might be the best prospect ever out of DC. That is a lot to live up too. No one comes close to Len Bias in my book or Adrian Dantley, but we shall see.

People have short memories.

Bias and Reggie Lewis vs. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

What could have been.

Got this from hoopscoop.com

It should come as no surprise that 7’0 Greg Oden from Indianapolis (Lawrence North) IN, 6’10 Kevin Durant from Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD, 6’4 Paul Harris from Fitchburg (Notre Dame) MA, 6’5 Jr O.J. May from Cincinnati (North College Hill) OH, and 6’9 Jr Kevin Love from Lake Oswego (H.S.) OR were the five players named our First Team All-American Team when we published earlier today our ranking of the top 75 players in the nation regardless of class and position on five-man teams, which is available exclusively in the Members Section.
And not too many people will be surprised by our Second Team, which includes 6’11 Spencer Hawes from Seattle (Prep) WA, 6’4 Wayne Ellington from Merion Station (Episcopal Academy) PA, 6’9 Brandon Wright from Brentwood (Academy) TN, 6’0 Tywon Lawson from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA, and 6’6 Jr Billy Walker from Cincinnati (North College Hill) OH.
However, you bet you that 6’8 Jr Michael Beasley from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA and his entourage will be shocked by the fact that we’ve dropped him down to the Third Team. However, it appears that boredom has suddenly become the order of the day with Beasley. He’s bored playing against high school players and I’m bored watching his lack of effort against high school players. So I’m doing the same thing that I did last spring with 7’0 Greg Oden from Indianapolis (Lawrence North) IN, who, at the time, was being ranked as the #1 player in the nation by most of our competition not because of the way he was playing, but because he is a freak athlete who is 7-feet tall with incredible potential

It’s all part of the plan…stay away from the hype…yes yes…

This is from a month ago, but I didnt see it posted:

This was taken from Oak Hills win over a 116 - 76 Blue Ridge Team:

Six-foot-nine junior Michael Beasley was the ultimate weapon Friday, scoring 30 points on an array of jumpers, smooth post moves and transition hoops. He averages 19 points, 10 rebounds and several dramatic dunks.

Seven-foot senior Greg Oden (Indianapolis) and 6-9 Kevin Durant (Rockville, Md.) have been rated as the country’s top prep players, The left-handed Beasley isn’t far behind.

“I don’t really care what other people think, I think I’m the best,” Beasley said. “I improve in some way every night. My game is all about playing hard and having fun.”

Beasley has made a verbal commitment to UNC-Charlotte.

“Michael is very skillful,” OHA coach Steve Smith said. “He’s had five games with at least 30 points and 15-18 rebounds.”

“We’re but Oak Hill is clearly a No. 1 team,” Mines said. “(Lawson) proved why he’s the number one point guard in the nation, and Beasley showed why he may be the number one player overall.”

NBA Comparison: Carmelo Anthony

Strengths: Versatile forward with a long wingspan and great body strength … An elite level athlete, really gets high off the floor … Has an excellent inside/outside game, with the ability to bang down low as well as face the basket and drive or shoot … Has all the physical skills one would want, size, handle, shot … Plays the game with a swagger, high level of confidence … He can step out to 18 ft and knock down the J and his 3 point shot is gaining consistency … Good form on his stroke … Has the handle and strength to drive the lane, almost at will, and can finish once he gets there … Tremendous rebounder, snatches boards above the box …

Weaknesses: The game almost comes too easily to him, he must prove he’s willing to work hard to continue improving … Doesn’t fit a position especially well, but has the size and speed to play both forward positions effectively … A little slow footed for the perimeter, and closer to 6-7 1/2 than 6-9 … He shows flashes of immense talent to be a big time NBA player, but must continue to work on many parts of his game … Still has a lot of work to do before he becomes a consistent player, especially mentally … Lacks the ability to elevate the play of his teammates, his vision and passing skills are just average … Can get frustrated when things aren’t going well, needs maturity, mental toughness … Play can become lazy and unfocused at times … Lacks consistency … While his game can be dominant against other HS players, it’s yet to be developed against top level competition …

While I agree with most of this. I think that the Carmelo Anthony comparsion is wrong. I could see how they could come up with that. Seeing as they are both from Maryland, both went to Oak Hill and more than likely Mike will only play 1 year of college. Another web site said that he is a more athletic version of Chris Webber. Were as I think he is more like a Rasheed Wallace type, plus more hops.

As for the him being lazy, I don’t take notice of this. He is playing for the best high school team in america, with other weapons to go to. Does anyone really think he will be lazy when he suits up for the 49ers? Nope

I agree with the strengths and weaknesses breakdown. Very accurate based on what I observed and have read about. Extremely talented, can play inside and out, but loses focus at times. I definitely don’t see the Carmelo Anthony comparison! More like Chris Weber. He’s more of a power guy than Rasheed. Rasheed has changed his game since college to be more perimeter oriented.

Beasley is going to learn a lot at Charlotte. I don’t foresee him being lazy or disinterested at the college level. He truly needs a few years to develop his game and play against better competition.

I agree with both their observations of Mike. From what I’ve seen, I would compare him to Lamar Odom, but not as good handling the ball. I’ve seen him play a few times, and have seen the lazy streak in him from time to time. When he is interested and into the game, he is the most dominant player on the floor. When he looses interest, he can look like an average player. The tremendous talent everyone talks about is definitely in him though. He just needs a little more maturity, which will come over time.

He truly needs a few years to develop his game and play against better competition.
I agree. Four is a nice round number.
