Smashed fundraising record for total donors with 10,669, representing a 23% increase. The Annual Fund achieved a record with $5.398 million raised and total fundraising hit $7.74 million. There was record sport-specific fundraising during the âDigginâDukesâ event with nearly a half million dollars raised.
I think that it was about money, nil collective, and increasing the athletic budget, mikes inability to attract new corporate donors, especially in a city full of opportunities for that is what may have been the determining factor
What we witnessed since his contract extension was a basketball team last season and football team so far this season that looks to be severely under talented, lacking the players needed to compete in the upper echelon of the aac
Gaber understands the modern landscape of college athletics and needs someone in place that can attract the corporate sponsors needed to fund a championship level program in the nil era
I thought it would be next week, after 1-6 & Homecoming, you have to make some move. Being so bad and uncompetitive (cant even score!) everyone does it, 100% at the FBS level changes are made everyday now it is happening.
Thought it would be OC/DC or ADâŚ.
The conference is run by the Presidents, not the ADs, Pernetti is serious about keeping Memphis, Tulane & USF happy. At this stage think about it, they dont even want us on their Schedules! Tulane in a few weeks, they are trying to move up the Polls for CFB birth, very serious business. Probably not happy they have us on their schedule. BBall as bad, Pernetti sets the schedules and is under pressure i am sure, people dont want us on their schedule to drive down the Net.
Pernetti delivered us on national tv coveted spots, to âboostâ our program. Rice this year and Tulane last year (cheerleaders left on tv during the game, it was such a bad product). Pernetti is TV guy, has consultants trying to help (bball).
Bad week, so it was the right time an Army blowout (canât even score), Bball Last! In preseason poll again, Hunter telegraphed step back in Observer coverage due to how bad our Product is, no interest.
Biff hire and experience was probably impossible to recover from (remember his 2 AAC media days, one he didnt even show up).
Lets face it today, this week, if looking at it as outsiders (aac conference, others) both Albin and Fearne âmay beâ busts! (I am not saying they are).
Have to wonder if the next AD comes from a business background and not an AD lifer. Money attracts talent, plain and simple. Coaches and athletes these days.
The fact weâre willing to pay him 2 mil to walk tells me it was driven by deep pockets in the Chancellorâs ear. I really like Gaber but I just donât see her pulling the trigger now without someone backing her up. Weâre also in the middle of the For the Love of Charlotte campaign with athletics being heavily involved.
If Albinâs team next year was as bad as this one has been, he would probably have been gone anyway. No doubt the team will be better next year, but the question is, how much improvement will be enough to earn a third year?
Letting go of an athletic director that could not attract corporate sponsors in a city full of opportunities
This is just my speculation of the situation, I am not an insider, I just think that the product on the field and court is underwhelming talent wise and recruiting is mostly about nil now, and maybe she felt that another athletic director could attract more corporate sponsors given the corporate environment in Charlotte
If that is the Hope, more corporate donors, every new AD will get fired. Unfortunately the corporate folks in Charlotte have heavy ties to Tarholes, Duke, and a lot of NE teams. Truly and uphill battle.
This is quite shocking with the timing. Iâm just hoping its was just because of the results and not because of a scandal. anyway he wasnât my first choice when the hire happened and he had some mixed results. Either way I am really curious to see how Gaber handles it. Mike Hill was Dubious hire after all. so this is now Gabers shot to show the students and alumni what she expects out of this program.
Thatâs the case with most metro schools where there is a bigger more powerful traditional school. OSU vs sinci, Memphis vs UT, Louisville vs KU - but all of those schools have manage to get their metro area to support the school.
Anyway as for what I would like in a future AD. I would prefer someone who has experience working at a college like us in a metro university. someone who understands the challenges of having to compete along with other pro sports in the city. So an AD who has worked at a program like, washington, ucla, or miami for example.
