Mike Hill’s Performance Review

Hmm…

Looking forward to 4 more years of snoop dog and looney tunes game day gifs from our AD! Who’s pumped about leadership!

If your sources don’t want to go public with their opinion, then that opinion should be kept private (IMO).

Well, strap in folks, we’re riding the Mike Hill Train for at least 4 more years.

I know we are not the world beaters some of you think we should be but damn…you guys act like the entire institution is a lost cause. Look back 10 or 20 years. We have been held back? You can’t be serious. Our campus is still growing and if you haven’t been back since 19 whatever year you wouldn’t recognize it. You have to give folks credit for that. There have been challenges faced you could not imagine that were overcome.

Athletically we are extremely competitive in sports where there is mostly a level playing field. Did we get left behind, sure. So did a lot of others. You simply can not deny that we are indeed better off now than we were. Where we want to be, absolutely not. Where we should be by now, likely not. But this udder failure nonsense is incredible. Some continue to cover some seemingly valid arguments in a cloud of bull. Beyond ridiculous.

Mike Hill is now under contract through 2030. What would you consider a successful next four years?

For me,

Football: Make at least two bowl games, win our first bowl game ever. Finish the planned football stadium construction on time and set the next steps for continued football facilities improvement.

Basketball: Contend for regular season championships finishing in the top four every year. Winning or making to the championship game of the conference tournament. At least making an appearance in the NIT and ideally the NCAA tournament.

Baseball: compete for conference championships. Don’t be an embarrassment.

Soccer: compete for conference championships. Don’t be an embarrassment.

Other Sports: Win or lose I don’t care.

Grow the 49er Club and stop relying on Judy Rose to be our top fundraiser.

Here’s what I think is beyond ridiculous:

We give a 4yr extension to a guy that cannot fundraise for sh!t and whose 2 football hires are a combined 15-34 vs FBS competition and who HASN’T WON A HOME FBS GAME IN 668 DAYS AND COUNTING

Oh yeah…and none of his basketball hires have yet to win even 1 Conference Tournament game…since Hill was hired…that’s 2378 days…and counting.

And that’s the j@ck@ss that gets a 4 year extension!?!?!?!?

Successful next 4 years - landing some major donors and sponsors. BIG MONEY.

Everything else comes off that. Facilities, coaches, everything. If you can’t raise money then nothing else matters. Most importantly you have to be able to fund raise off of both successful season and less ones.

Takes one to know one they say…although he is far from one based on my interactions.

We’ve had a lot of nice guys come through this athletics department, but only a few have been winners.

Hill is down to 40%
Poggi is at 25%
Fearne is at 70%

What bothers me the most about hills extension is just that it extends his tenure to the max I think should be normal here. Unless you are a Niner, spending your entire career here is just not how it should be. We need driven individuals who want more than where we are.

That’s my point. We are never going to complete to the level you want in the sports you solely care about. The system is stacked against us but we are not the only ones. May have a great year here and there and that would be a great success. Money is the only answer and it ain’t coming. Blame him for that part for sure. We are incredibly lucky to be expanding where we are. My measuring stick for him is more money than wins because winning is getting more and more out of our control. Fingers crossed 4 years can make progress.

Judging an AD strictly on winning is just the wrong way. The AD has to be able to have enough money to hire quality coaches and then have a chance at retaining if successful and being able to fire if they aren’t. And now have to have money to hire players too.

The path to sustained winning is just nearly impossible now.

We have got to find new money resources and ideally we need to lower the burden on our students.

We all know that sustained winning at a high level is not happeining here.

What is the magic sauce that App has in footbal and ECU has in Football and Baseball?? Is the mothership holding these guys back??
In the past we could hold on to basketball but that is fading away also.

It is always about the potential we have, but we can’t ever seem to get moving in the right direction. Need to break this cycle somehow. I kinda think Hill went out on limb with Biff to try something new.

They havent had sustained winning in the new era. In the past it was just hire the right coaches and recruit smartly given your level. Now though? We shall see.

App has gotten amazingly lucky with coaching hires.

No idea about baseball. I dont pay attention to that sport so not sure how ECU has maintained performance there.

App fans think this is their last good year for a few years. They are losing a ton this year, and they are not as active in the portal due to kids not wanting the mountains and lack of NIL.

It stands to reason that App will have to overpay for talent considering the environment.

I think App is done. They simply cannot afford the new environment. We can’t either, but like only having to outrun the slower people in a zombie outbreak, we’re marginally better off than them.

We haven’t had any success in football. Explain that to unlv, who waa terrible and hired a guy who thought he would be our next coach, and now will probably be in the CFP. Yes, that could be us if we hired properly
