We’ve had PFs listed at 6’9" before…Whether or not they actually were is hard to say, of course this guy might not be either.
I was having a hard time coming up with one. I was thinking Rodney, Demarco, Braswell, KP, Hayward, Cam, Clemmons were all 6’8". Jarvis and Coleman were 6’7". Spears and Gardner were 6’6". Maybe Kenkay?
Of course almost all of these guys (except Rodney, Jarvis and Spears) mostly played center for us.
my question. i know he is a center NOW. any idea if he’ll be playing center or pf for us?
I would bet anyone on here a six pack or two of their favorite beer that he never plays pf for us. And by never I mean 99% of his playing time will come at center.

Alan Major wants to make the Charlotte 49ers a viable option for in-state players. On Monday, the new coach accepted a commitment from Mike Thorne, a 6-foot-9 center out of Fayetteville Trinity Christian.Last year, the school produced Top 50 center Damontre Harris and this time around, the late-blooming Thorne is headed to the Atlantic 10.
“Mike had 12 Division I offers and he already visited James Madison and Tulane,” Trinity coach Heath Vandevender told Scout.com. Thorne averaged 5 points and 6 rebounds as a junior behind Harris. Vandevender said he’s not the same guy.
“He’s 17 years old. He’s better now that even in July.” Thorne was the toast of the AAU Nationals when he had a breakout event.
At the Nationals, Thorne displayed an aggressive nature that previously wasn’t there. He played with presence in the paint, attempted to dunk what he could and pursued rebounds. His improvement was noticeable as he transformed himself from a borderline DI player last year to a coveted mid-major interior prospect.
“Coach Ryan Odom and Coach Major started recruiting Mike in June and have done a tremendous job building a relationship with Mike and his parents.”
49ers get first 2011 commitmentAccording to multiple sources, Charlotte head coach Alan Major landed his first recruit in the 2011 class over the weekend.
6-foot-10 power forward Mike Thorne pledged to the 49ers while on his official visit.
ESPN’s National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi has the breakdown on Thorne’s game.
“Mike is a player that has improved tremendously over the past year, especially with his performance this summer at the AAU Nationals in Orlando,” he said. "He’s a good athlete who plays above the rim but also has a nice soft touch with his back to the basket. He’s got a nice little jumphook inside as well.
“He’s got an enormous wingspan and a long body and could be a really good shot blocker when he develops more timing.”
“With his continued improvement you also notice he starting to play with a presence and more aggressiveness.”
Thorne does need to add strength to his frame as prepares for the rigors of Division I basketball.
“He has to get stronger to improve his rebounding and his ability to finish through contact in the paint,” Biancardi noted. “With time and strength he’ll be much more productive around the basket.”
New 49ers head coach Alan Major has clearly made the state of North Carolina a priority in his recruiting, according to Biancardi.
“Coach Major is making serious in-roads in the state where there are so many talented players,” he said. “In Mike, they have found someone they can mold and groom at Charlotte. Major and his staff made N.C. a priority and it has already paid off.”
Thorne picked Charlotte over James Madison, Winthrop and The Citadel among others.
Great news! Athletic big man from NC, 4 yrs as a Niner!
