Miss. State has a decent squad. Their 2 losses are to undefeated Clemson(RPI 19), a close 69-66 game and Winthrop(RPI 53) 74-63. It always sucks to lose, but atleast it's a quality road loss. This is a big weekend for the A10. UMass is gonna have it's hands full with BC who just beat Michigan St. You guys are @ Indiana. GW v Virginia Tech. SLU v So. ILL, Rhody @ Providence. I hope we can all get the job done. Go Niners, go A10!!
I would have quoted Dax for his great and much needed post but this one beat it out. A UMass fan is showing more optimism and support than any Niners fan. Iāll be there Monday. And every other game I can possibly make it to. And Iāve NEVER missed a Panthers game. Iāll be recording it though.

I guess this is where I get depressed and agree with those who say our program is in decline. To be happy with a loss to MSU, who lost to CLEMSON, who lost to WINTHROP? Those two programs (no matter how good they are this year and in years past) are programs that I used to think we were miles ahead of.

Welcome to college basketball in a non-BCS conference!
Stop it already. Seriously. I get tired of hearing this. Yes, we are relying on the 3 pt shot too much, but if you want to compare shot attempts then use a formula like this:
3PTA vs. 2PTA + FT/1.5
You donāt get a 2PTA when you get fouled going to the basket.
Weāre basicly a 50-50 balance team. We probably need to be more like 40% 3PT. But we also need a post scorer to make that a reality.
I have no idea what you are talking about. However, I will give you some credit. Most of your comrades, that usually try to insist a company cheer about now, are very very silent. At the very least, you are consistent.
I was unable to see the game, so I will not comment more than I already have.
Please if anyone ever says that BS āIf you shoot 33% from 3 its = to 50% from 2ā in front of meā¦I will be tempted to slap them.
Basketball is not as simple as a formula. Otherwise Albert Einstein would have been John Wooden.
The 3 point shot is a riskā¦it should be a calculated risk. You donāt give your self any opportunity for a foul. This in turn means that not only will you not shoot an immediate free throw (as in the case of a foul for a 2 pt shot), but also that you will shoot substantially less FTās throughout the game (slower to get into the bonus). Also it gives crazy rebounds which while they can give you some lucky offensive boards, it will also give the opponents golden opportunities for transition attempts.
The best shot is a wide open one. Period. Because in addition to having a good look. Typically the defense is out of position, increasing the likeliness that you will be able to get your own rebound. Furthermore your teammates will be expecting the shot and respond accordingly.
However with our team the players have the ability and freedom to jack up 3ās at will. This means players are caught unaware and out of position. This increases the other teams ability to get down the court and get transition opportunities. Itās one of many reasons why our defense appears so lousy.

Barry has returned to ninernation land, no doubt or has everyone already figured that out.

The problem with our offense has never been so clearly stated. The fact that we shoot a lot of 3s is not the problem. The problem is that often we shoot a 3 with no one in place to get the rebound, or in a situation where our players have just ran all the way down to our end of the court, then having missed a three and with the other team on a fast break, our players must then immediately reverse and run the other direction. In this manner, we canāt get set to play quality defense and thus the other team gets an easy open look or we foul to make up for our lack of being a defensive set.
We are lucky that we arenāt the Big East this year. I canāt imagine getting raped in every conference game, at least in this conference we will win a few games.
Honestly, on the conference thing, we canāt say weāre too big and bad for the A10 when we havenāt swept it and lose to powerhouses like Richmond.

This has always been my biggest gripe with Bobbyās offense. I donāt mind the 3pt shot, weāve shown in the past we can hit it. But we need to be in position to do so, and that includes rebounders there for the miss.
I donāt mind the green light for players to shoot the 3 either, but they need to be responsible with it and not chuck on duck all the time. I think Bobby has made an effort to reign that in somewhat this year like when he benched DA. But we have guys with a shooterās mentality and this shoot it till you hit it. We need more discipline in that area.

no doubt.
and we also donāt run screens for shooters like we used to.
we donāt pass to set up the shot, we take it early in the shot clock.
we donāt even threaten to drive, which would free up room for the 3-pt, and we have guys who can drive and shoot.
the problem is that there is no discipline on offense, it is just every man for himself.
the part that really bothers me about it is, we finally have a pg who can drive and create, the guy was fantastic to watch against syracuse. he is the real deal. and weāre still playing sloppy and disorganized on offense.
My other big gripe about the Miss. St. game is that the Bulldogs would have the ball and about 15 secs on the shot clock and then would get a reach-in foul. That happened at least 3 times during that game. YARRGHH

I didnāt quite pick up on that. Little difficult listening on the radio and trying to keep up in the chat room. Iām glad we can see these next three games. Indiana is going to be interesting.

Lefty, you missed me. I had to come back. I was getting depressed with the current state of affairs. I need people like yourself to tell me how wonderful our program is and that we are headed in the right direction. I don't see it but I'm willing to learn.:santa:
if that is barry, how come he hasn't hit on me yet?
Aren't you still dating Yinzer. I heard you two got engaged then shacked up with the Duke Lacrosse Team. Can you get me the phone number of a good stripper?

Welcome back Barry. I thought that was you. Wasnāt bball49er your maiden name before you changed it to Barry?

So you were trying to hide your identity over here? I got a PM reminding me that you were one of those who said you were done with this board, now that you had This Board Rocks to go to. What happened?
