When did this thread become "list every possible negative"? :(

rook.
read MM thread from last year, it was not negative by any means and see how the year turned out. We had five 1st team All Americans in that thread.

I think the negativity has some reverse psych built in. Hope for the best, expect the worse sort of policy.

who gives a flying crap about all this psychology bs. these guys arenā€™t going to win the championship, theyā€™re a young bunch of players. but theyā€™re athletes, and i think we all know theyā€™re going to bring the heart and the effort. thatā€™s something we havenā€™t seen in a while, so i can deal with some losing if it means more of that now and in the future. iā€™m not one for superstition or any of that bull****ā€¦go niners.

I wish I had taken some videos

I know nothing more about our team than I did before tonight. I guess I can confirm that weā€™re more athletic than last year and that Gerrity will attack the basket.

Thatā€™s about it. No idea if we can play a lick.

Coley is fun to watch though. Dewhurst & Wilderness are both real athletes.

I say we will lead the nation in most 3ā€™s attempted from the center and power forward positions.

Hell, Iā€™ll just say weā€™ll need the nation in most 3ā€™s taken, period lol.

All I learned is that Coley can get up. Like, better than Iā€™ve seen around here in a loooooooooong time.

I donā€™t want to see Phil shoot 3s. Atleast we saw Gaby likes to play down low, atleast. sigh

Far more athletic than I imagined.

Sat about 6 or 7 rows up in 104, it was real unhype when you get past 4th or 5th row (I was the only person standing half the time -_-.)

Some observations:

  • Coley has ups, put on a show most of the night (slam dunk contest & scrim.)
  • Ian Andersen looked like he was in a real game
  • Anjuan will be a factor, he can do it all.
  • Gerrity wonā€™t settle for the 3. He will be drawing a lot of fouls on post players.
  • Dijuan should be able to give some valuable minutes at the point.
  • Everyone had fun and Phaler is the man as well as Lee

Front of 104 also got a Karron Johnson Chant going, I joined in but it was mainly just the front chanting his name. I wish I knew the other recruits were there so we could have started chanting their names.

I canā€™t wait till the exhibition.

Weā€™re all aware that this is in no way indicative of how our basketball team will play, right? We donā€™t seriously think Phil will be taking tons of threes, do we? Has it gotten that bad?

Coley can f-ing JUMP. That man scares me.

You never know, Curt used to jack up the 3 even though he knew where he should be taking the ball to.

Phil needs to shoot no further out than 10-15 feet. We brought you in here to be a center, not a 6ā€™10 shooting guard. Other than that, Coley will be fun to watch, Lee will be Lee, Wilderness is going to be one of if not our best player, Gerrity is quicker than I thought heā€™d be, and Lewis still wonā€™t play.

Yeah, I guess youā€™ve got a point. I think weā€™ll be ok though. Scrimmage for student entertainment is the worst possible environment if youā€™re looking for cohesion, sound defense, well-executed plays or good shot selection. It is, however, a great place to see alley oops and/or three pointers.

Lutz said before the game that the guys were just out there to have 100% fun and there would be no defense or real play at the NNG event. He also said weā€™re going to play GOOD DEFENSE this year. I was excited to hear that.

He said they had a hard, tough 2 hour practice earlier, thoughā€¦ full of defense and solid play.

Yea same with the girls they had a real tough workout today! I have video footage of almost all dunks as well as the chair jump should be up soon! Oh people should start rooting for our girls more they have a ton of talent!

I hate to be a pessimist, but Iā€™ll believe it when I see it. If this is the case then we are going to have to limit the 3ā€™s because a missed 3 pointer is an open invitation for a fast break.

he has 3 guys who he basically instructed to be defensive specialist. Anjuan enjoys playing defense. Gaby was told to play hard nose defense his senior year in high school. phil can block shots. so hopefully that can equate to many stops.

To sum it up, he (more or less) said we'd not only play a lot of full court press, but also pressure the ball the entire game. He emphasized improved defense a lot.

He said last year it was hard because we didnā€™t have the athletes for press defense. I guess if a slow guy gets beat, itā€™s harder for him to make it upā€¦ whereas an athletic guy has a chance to get back.
