Moving the Game Against the LOLCats

At Davidson it is necessary to law enforcement as a buffer between students and visiting fans from Charlotte. This is not necessary at Halton. Your position that Halton is a threatening environment only exists in your head.

They have some real shit bag students from my experiences. We probably do too, but the reality is that their shit heads donā€™t yell at them and ours donā€™t yell at us, so in their minds, Davidson students are nice upstanding young citizens and ours are vagrants, when all 18-22 year olds are generally the same.

As shitty as we have been over the past 10 years, its still 27-11 juniorā€¦

Of course, I laugh in a very civil way so as not to offend their tender sensibiities.
I just read about this request on the Davidson forum. There was one mention of it. So I thought Iā€™d see what you folks had to say about it. Most of the comments here confirm, to me, that this is indeed a Niner Nation site. Beyond the incivility, there was not a whole lot of substance. You should heed the advice of the (at least) one seemingly sane person who suggested competing head to head against the Hornets vs the world champions, led by native son Steph Curry, would place a serious strain on attendance, as well as media coverage. To the chap who stated that there would not be a lot of Davidson fans at Halton, you ought to wonder why the fans wonā€™t drive 20 minutes to Halton , but will drive 3-4 hours to Charleston. For those of you who doubt the accounts of the actions of a virulent minority of Niner fans, you might ask Davidsonā€™s president Carol Quillen about the abusive behavior she has experienced. Iā€™m sure the idiots who threatened her were not aware of who she was, but were being just their own ordinary pathetic selves. I hope the date is changed because it makes sense. And I think the administration, especially including Mark Price will be both gracious and practical, and change the date. And that will give some of you more testosterone filled wannabeā€™s even more reason to fume at your own team.
You know, one of your little angels sat among our fans at a soccer match a few years reeking of alcohol, cursing, making fun of our native accents, and trying to start fights. That crap goes on everywhere and its really ignorant and provincial of you to believe it doesnā€™t happen at Davidson.

Glass houses. D-Block is the most antagonistic group of wannabe thugs Iā€™ve seen in my travels.

No, I donā€™t think anyone here is going to be asking Carol Quillen for her unbiased and frank accounts of interactions with our students.

I had the displeasure of walking among Davidson students after the game and they seemed like the most piss poor examples of human beings that Connecticutā€™s gated communities could spit out.

Iā€™m not sure if the Davidson fan understands your point. They tend to have a difficult time facing the reality that they have won LESS THAN 30% of their games against us.

Unfortunately, Iā€™m limited by our maximum post lengthā€¦ so I will have to respond to you in multiple posts. Hereā€™s hoping it fits within two.

Welcome!

I promise, weā€™ll be much more practical about this matter than LOLCatsville.biz is. Youā€™re allowed to post here. We wonā€™t ban you for providing any differing viewpoints.

Here at Niner Nation, we firmly believe in your right as an American to be dead wrong.

Most of the comments here confirm, to me, that this is indeed a Niner Nation site.

Wellā€¦ no shit. Says so in the url.

Beyond the incivility, there was not a whole lot of substance.

Apologies for that. Next time you want to pay us a visit, just call ahead. Weā€™ll be sure to clean up our act and present more serious opinions with less tongue-in-cheek bias.

You should heed the advice of the (at least) one seemingly sane person who suggested competing head to head against the Hornets vs the world champions, led by native son Steph Curry, would place a serious strain on attendance, as well as media coverage.

You may have had some decent points in this sentence, but to be honestā€¦ you lost me at ā€œseemingly sane.ā€ You know not of whom you speak. This is a guy that took a poster off of the wall, tore it in half, and ate it in front of the entire ECU student sectionā€¦ just to piss them off. Let me recap: HE ATE A POSTER. Donā€™t let his sound logic fool you, heā€™s just as batshit crazy as the rest of us. Frankly, I applaud him for this.

To the chap who stated that there would not be a lot of Davidson fans at Halton, you ought to wonder why the fans won't drive 20 minutes to Halton , but will drive 3-4 hours to Charleston.

Well, to be fairā€¦ the fair city of Charleston is well worth the 3-4 hour drive without basketball. If they were driving to Virginia Beach regularly, youā€™d have more of a point.

The reason is most of the older folks who travel to games do not like to be threatened and verbally abused by a bunch of punk students, fans, or alums.

Iā€™m sure they donā€™t, and thatā€™s not limited to old folks. Nobody likes to be verbally abused by a bunch of punk students, fans, or alums. That includes me. As far as I know, the abuse Davidson fans have endured at the hands of the Niner faithful has stopped short of physical. If only I could say the same of the inverse.

The acts of some of your players have not been much better in the past. I do think that will change under your current coach. and I'm glad of that.

So now Duckies are whining about the games getting chippy? Iā€™ll give you this, though: You guys have mastered the art of playing as dirty as the rules allow and just waiting for it to boil over. We fall for it every time, so I guess Iā€™ll concede this point.

For those of you who doubt the accounts of the actions of a virulent minority of Niner fans, you might ask Davidson's president Carol Quillen about the abusive behavior she has experienced. I'm sure the idiots who threatened her were not aware of who she was, but were being just their own ordinary pathetic selves.

I wonā€™t express doubt in either direction on this, because I simply do not know. However, hop on down off of your high horse before you try to squeeze under the low bridge.

From personal experience:

 1. Having trash and unopened soda bottles thrown into the Charlotte visiting section on my first visit to Belk.
 2. While attempting to leave my second visit there: being surrounded, subjected to the same type of verbal abuse you decry, and then spit on and shoved. A group of campus police officers who watched this entire exchange only sprung to action when I moved to defend myself.
 3. The very next year in Halton, D-Block gathered behind our student section as soon as they arrived before the game. Lots of vulgarity, invitations for physical conflict, etc. This is ironic because they left en masse with about two minutes remaining in the game, flanked by police. A campus officer later confirmed to me that they had requested a police escort back to their bus.

Iā€™m pretty sure thereā€™s a soccer hooliganā€™s song in South America about supporters who instigate fights only to run to police when they succeed. Physical violence over a sporting event is about as stupid as it gets, but inciting it for no reason other than to play the victim is about as low as you can get. So forgive me while I roll my eyes at your complaints of our demeanor.

I hope the date is changed because it makes sense. And I think the administration, especially including Mark Price will be both gracious and practical, and change the date. And that will give some of you more testosterone filled wannabe's even more reason to fume at your own team.
A contract has been signed. You can request an amendment to that contract all you want, but we're not obligated to confirm. So, sure... I'm okay with changing it. What's it worth to you guys?

I have read it at least four times and I just canā€™t get enough of it. Thereā€™s just too much of the gold to bother mining it, really, though many of you have already done a good job already.

Come around here more often, please.

Back to the topic. I think it is a perfectly practical thing to change the date. The contract has been signed, so Davidson should pony up some extra money to move the game.

In regards to coverage, I laugh at the idea that the date of the game will affect our coverage. Newsflash, itā€™ll be sh*t no matter what, as we will inevitably get bumped from the observer to discuss the next low pressure system coming into Charlotte.

I donā€™t mind moving the game if we do. I donā€™t think it makes us weak and plenty of reasons to move it. At the same time if we want to say fuckem and honor the contract then so be it. They havenā€™t acted professional or honorable in the past so they have not created any good will on my part.

F Davidson!!!

I donā€™t post too often, but must confess, this type of BS deserves response (even if it should be ignored). There is a difference between talking trash about someone and directly talking trash TO them. I personally do not consider Davidson a rival (I graduated during a time when that would be laughable). But letā€™s assume some believe this to be a cross town rival sort of relationship. A little trash talk about your ā€œrivalā€ is expected. You are the one that came to OUR site to elicit a reaction. Congratulations, you have succeeded.

My experience has been quite the opposite (see how prospective changes things?). I have two young children and the disrespectful ā€œstudentsā€ that represented Davidson at Halton did a HUGE injustice for your university. That I can promise you. Maybe you were one that felt threatened and didnā€™t attend our games. But I can assure you that your students are the ones instigating and very much embarrassing themselves. Honestly the Davidson game at Halton is the ONLY game that I actually felt threatened and protective of my children. Both from a verbal and physical threatening point of view. And we have had many visiting teams that I am sure you would consider more ā€œthug likeā€. Actions speak louder than ā€œyour faulty imaginationā€ and I donā€™t know how any Davidson alum could be proud of this behavior. Carry on and spin it the way you need to support Davidson being the innocent victim here.

As others have said, I like a little friendly banter but letā€™s not be blind to the facts. Andā€¦Iā€™m not sure what I ā€œwannabeā€, so please enlighten me.

:o :o :o

Threats? Tell me a D-son fan isnā€™t talking threats. How many complaints have we had in the reverse.

& I say donā€™t move the date. Stick it to D-son fans that they have to choose between their current team & their ā€œmessiah.ā€ Tell the UofC ADā€™s Off. that 49ers fans will boycott the new date if they honor D-sonā€™s request to move the game.

Who ate an ECU poster? :o
