MTSU (9-19) Pre-game Thread

Our 1st C-USA road game. No TV listed for this game yet, but last year it appears that every home MTSU game was televised on some network.

Middle Tennessee was picked to finish third in the East Division of C-USA in the 2015 Preseason Media Football poll released by the conference office Wednesday.

Notebook: Young offensive line still adjusting

I don’t think any of us imagined how big this game would be when the year started. Every game so far has asked questions, and our answers have exceeded all of our expectations.

How would we match up against the bottom of the FBS? Georgia State showed we match up very well.

How do we match up against decent FCS teams? Presbyterian shows we dominate them.

Now we find out versus MT how we match up against the top tier of CUSA. MT is good, make no mistake about that. If they hadn’t turned the ball over, they could have really pushed Bammer. I think right now they are probably the second best team in the East.

When the season started, I thought this game would be a bridge too far, I would have been happy to just not get the mercy rule called out against them, and would have been content if we could have kept it under 35. We have looked so good after two games though…well I am anxious to see how we match up, and even have some hope we can make this battle :).

I still think it is too early in our development to get a win against them, but I believe we will keep it close and go down 27-13. If we somehow manage to pull it off, well this program will be in position for the games against FAU and a ranked Temple team that I didn’t think we would be in for years.

I’ll be there, I’m planning on setting up in the Greenland lot near the Soccer stadium if anyone wants to congregate that’s making the trip. If someone else already has something cooking with the tailgate in a different lot though, I’ll gladly head that way.

I can’t wait for next week!

I was listening to the 'Bama/MTSU game coming home from the game. Several personal fouls called on MTSU including a spearing on 'Bama’s QB that got their best defensive player ejected from the game. I don’t think he’s allowed back to participate in our game. Even without him their defense looked good at least for the first one and a half quarters. Then they eventually succumbed to “too much 'Bama”.

We keep it respectable in the first half, but lose the turnover battle, and they run away with it in the 4th. 34-21. This game will be a good learning experience for us, and we follow it with a big win at home against FAU.

With the way the offense has struggled, I still see this game being ugly. Defense keeps thme honest in the first half but wears down in the 2nd due to the offense’s inability to keep things going.

We lose by 21+

Would love to be wrong of course, the slow starts on offense just don’t give me much hope and a defense csn only play hard for so long. I’m no fan of the dual qb system we are trying either. I’m certainly not Matt’s biggest cheerleader, but he appears to give us the best chance at a win.

Looking at CUSA scores from the weekend, it looked pretty bad, but it gave me hope that we have a chance to win some in-conference.

If our D plays as against Presby…and Donnelly can cobble together respectable O-line play…then we will compete very favorably with them

early lines I’ve seen have us between a 18.5 - 21 point dog.

Hate to say it, but I see this game going a lot like game against NC Central in 2013. Don’t think our guys will be ready yet for this kind of talent jump, just like then. I could see us being in it at the half, but wear down eventually. Type of game that will happen in our first year of FBS. I’ll say Middle Tennessee by 20+.

I believe in our defense.

Looks like we may be able to at least watch this game online:

I’d guess it’s a pay, since it says “subscribe” on the top.

I won’t lie: I’ll pay. Just wish they had an XB1 or Roku app. I’d much rather watch on my TV.

Will be curious to see how our OL steps up with the injuries, big test for those guys. With the skill guys we have at WR and RB, think the offense can put up some points with Barden/Johnson are given enough time.

Just a word of caution to those that are thinking about purchasing the feed, it will be a feed from their video board, so it probably will not be the best quality. Better than no video I suppose, but I’ve watched an MT game in the past online and it was pretty bad. Maybe it is better now, just don’t go into it with high expectations.
