Najee Garvin - 2016 PF signed LOI to Charlotte

Seems like a decent prospect. I’m a little surprised he doesn’t seem to have more mid-range offers. He’s listed smaller out of high school (recruiting sites have 6’6") and he may have added some strength/skills since then. He could add some muscle, but he’s not beanpole skinny or anything. Maybe he’s just someone everyone missed on, or maybe he’s properly rated, no idea.

I also notice he’s listed as a small forward out of high school. I could see him being considered a lower-rated small forward, but have potential to be a better power forward if he can add the muscle without losing agility/quickness.

Whatever the case is, I’m glad he committed. We badly need post players right now, and if he can play some PF, that will be a huge help even next year, ready or not.

Over the last year, Garvin defined his position as a prominent high post four man. He put on 30 pounds of muscle, redefining his body.

I don’t recall our current freshmen Scott and White being that super highly rated either, but this staff seems to be taking them and molding them quickly.

If this kid has athleticism and work ethic I would expect the same thing to happen with him.

At this point I’m inclined to trust Price and his staff on matters of talent recognition and player development so for me I’m assuming we have a kick ass new player coming in!

Garvin may not be a highly rated recruit, but we should know how little that matters. Look at the 3 Freshman we have now and their production, along with how Dorn produced last year. Stars ultimately don’t mean shit once you hit campus.

im as much of a #starking as anybody but we also have to consider, not every player you bring in is brought here to be an immediate impact/star player like a player like jackson for example. some players are depth/need players. this kid looks to have a skillset that can help us. its not like he will be asked to be a first or even fifth option for us.

can anybody link a schedule for moravian prep? i tried to find one but couldnt and would like to check out a game.

Looks like they play in Charlotte March 8-10

EDIT - 2k beat me to it.

Offensively no, but with his size and the physical maturity of a prep year, and big Joe leaving, I bet he gets a lot of court time.

You must be expecting departures.

let’s say hypothetically that our top center target wanted to commit today while we have no schollies available. how would we handle that? would we accept the scholarship and just figure it out later?

Couldn’t Hudson Price just walk on?

Hell yeah!!!

How about not comparing him to DC because it doesn’t make any sense?

Just a personal opinion that his game tape reminded me of him.

Problem solved.
