Najee Garvin - 2016 PF signed LOI to Charlotte

Or a player has already said they plan to transfer. Don’t know if that’s true or not, but it would be one way they could know they’ll have a scholarship available.
Also, Garvin hasn’t signed, so his is technically still available, not that I’m advocating that’s what coaches should do.

Or we just transfer Benas over to the girl’s team.

Najee Garvin, 6’7″, F *UNC Charlotte Commit

Best athlete in the gym hands down and that was in a gym full of athletes- very explosive. College ready athleticism and frame. Runs the floor hard. Solid mid post game. Needs to improve jump shot and play consistently on both ends.

I found 2 full games of Najee Garvin’s team on youtube today, haven’t had a change to watch but wanted to share.

i thought tennessee prep was his prep team. i could be wrong though.

I do not see the standing around half the game with his hands on his hips flying with Price. Ive never seen a player actually stand like that while the game was going on, absolutely inexcusable. Seemed like he was an after thought in his team’s offense, so maybe thats why his effort sucked in this game. Both those teams looked very poorly coached. Still though, the raw talent is there. He even has a decent 3 point shot. I like his potential after a few years of being coached by our staff.

It’s high school basketball, there’s a wide variation in the quality of the coaching these players get (and they pick up plenty of bad habits in AAU ball too). In the few minutes I watched, his teammates were doing a lot of standing around too, so I bet the coaches just aren’t correcting it. You’re right that his teammates also didn’t involve him much, the two guards took a lot of bad shots, trips down the floor where they didn’t even bother passing it off at all.

I think he’s got some potential too, looks athletic, decent touch in the post, good strength and explosion (that early dunk was nice). Glad he’s planning to come to Charlotte.

There is a lot of potential in Garvin from what I’ve been able to watch. I will state, bad habits can come in HS too, not just AAU. Plenty of bad/good coaches at both levels. 6’7, long armed with good form and touch on his shot. Shows ability to shoot from 3, score with back to the basket and attack off the bounce. Liked that he tried to take a couple charges as well on the defensive end.

There was more sulking than I’d like to see, he was obviously frustrated at times with his teammates. I would be too after watching that type of play. We have had minimal sulking on the court this year compared to the past, I think that is something Price and company will put a stop to.

Looks like he has the potential to be a great fit for us in CUSA as a 4 man.

One area I definitely have more faith in Price is that he won’t play a player just because he has a scholarship. So whatever recruit comes here, he won’t be handed playing time. There have been players over the years that were playing when they had no business playing.

Garvin has signed his LOI.

Didn’t realize how good of a get this guy was. He averaged 27 points and 11 rebs this year. He scored 42 points against a juco team also had 25 and 12 against the NBA factory aka Oak Hill.

Rick Lewis talked about him many times, particularly about how great of an athlete he is. We need that. Being a great athlete got Darion Clark decent numbers his freshman year. If Garvin gives us production like that (although hopefully better from FT line) I consider that a huge success.

I’m excited to see him play.
