Name Confusion Log

say what??

the score of the game was 12-7. Inspection stickers say 12-07, or are you just shocked that I’m married to an Aggie?

I say leave Mike alone. He may not be a Niner, but I would welcome his type of poster here no matter how much I disagree with him (his type being a local newspaper sports editor). Enough hi-jacking. Back to the topic:

Hell YES I would shut up about UNC-Chapel Hill if we had a name change and football. (I’d still bitch a little if they kept screwing us on funding, but I’d probably be too happy to care).

Um, Austin that was the original hijacking of the thread. I can understand why Mike put it here, but this is to note personal experinces of mis-naming Charlotte…
There are 3 publicly supported systems in PA - Pitt, Penn State, and SUP.

Pitt has the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, at Titusville, etc.

Yep, a long, long time ago I visited the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. A lot of ugly girls and I think smiling has been banned by local ordinance ever since their flood.

The University of Charlotte needs its own system. :unhappy:

Sorry, it’s been hi-jacked too many times to keep track of. I guess I addressed every issue but…

When I go to Google, type in ā€œUNCCā€ and hit NEWS…
The message I get before the news stories:

Did you mean: UNC

Nice!

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!, I hate it when it does that ^^^
I always verbally tell my computer screen, ā€œNO!ā€

Must have been in winter…PA girls hibernate in the winter…put on a few extra pounds to keep warm, too. That’s why everyone wears baggy sweaters: to hide the winter weight (which comes mostly from beer). Although, I suppose Johnstown girls might just be ugly. And honestly, would you smile if you lived in Johnstown?

Back to the topic at hand…Nearly everyone I work with attended UNCC in one form or another, so not much confusion occurs here. When I have a problem with it, I’ll let everyone know.

Nice!

I emailed google about that a while back

oops misread. I’ll emailed them to fix the same problem under the main search

Yeah, I had noticed it quit doing that on the main search, but still does it on the rest of the searches… :unhappy:

bastards, they only fixed one. if only I could find that dudes email addy

To be honest I never heard of UNCC until I researched colleges my junior year of HS. Of course I grew up in the insulated world of the triangle, where pro teams didn’t even penatrate for so long. However I’ve been yelling at sportscasters and correcting family and friends since 1998. The truth of the matter is we need to be consistently good (Duh) to be given proper respect. Success in sports or over a century of exitence or world class academics will give you respect, however the latter is rapidly rising like buildings on campus. The fact of the matter is Lutz has planted this team squarely in mediocrity, much like dave odom or herb sendek have done, until we hire a coach who knows all facets of the game (DEFENSE!) we will never achieve steady high level success (being ranked more than one-four weeks every two-three years.) That is the only way to gain constant exposure and most likely, no confusion.

I ran into a friend of mine and was asking her how her kids were doing. She said great and that her oldest just started going to UNC. I said, ā€œwas it hard for him to move so far from home?ā€. She replied, ā€œno, the one here.ā€ :unhappy:

Before I go on this rant I want everyone to know that I am 110% for the name change, that being said I really think it has a lot to do with where you are from. I went to high school in Raleigh so every time I told people where I was going to school I emphasized the CHARLOTTE part of the name because I was in the triangle. Now my wife is from Shelby, (South west of Charlotte) and when I talk to people from there they say they are going to ā€œUNCā€ and mean Charlotte just like that mother, I really don’t take it as disrespect and I don’t think they do either. More people go to Charlotte than Chapel Hole from that area so I think they just assume you know its the school close to home. If that makes any sense…

It makes sense, I just think that mother confirms that UNCC does not have it’s own identity and lots of people (even ones paying tuition to the school!!!) think it’s a satellite campus for Chapel Hill. Like you said, the name change would do wonders - nobody confuses App St or NC State with UNC-CH.

And another thing looking at this,

Maybe we should be pushing Charlotte State University…

I see what you are getting at but I really think "University of Charlotte" sounds and looks better. Look at this and tell me that ain't pretty

Plus, most university’s in large cities are named like that.
University of Pittsburgh
University of Louisville
University of Memphis
University of Cincinnati
University of Houston

I like the way that sounds a lot better, but thats only an opinion.

I like the way University of Charlotte sounds. But I think people would say Charlotte State University should be the way its said, because we are part of the state system,
