Green Berets: Already taken, but when applied to a sports booster club, has a slightly infiminite quality.

Naughty Niners: The newest strip club on Bonnie Cone Blvd (hwy 29) beside Leather and Lace.

What is the scope of this name definition? Is it crucial that we make up a quirky name and copy the Dookies? The cameron crazies is not an officially sanctioned name or club as far as I know. Cameron crazies is just a nickname applied by people over time to students in the student section who act really crazy when Duke is winning.
We do not need an edict handed down from the student body president saying that we are Niner Nation (even though it is a good name in general). NC State doesn’t have a widely used name but they have a very active and supportive student section. This is perfectly fine, they don’t need a name.
Wake Forest has the “screamin demons” which is a regualted group that has access to certain tickets- sort of like gang green. If we are going to rope off section 104 for members of this student fan group, then that is different.
I personally think that the best student tickets should be given out to any student as long as they commit to some sacrifice such as camping out or accumlating attendance at athletic events (Which is sort of how the athletic dept. does it now).
It should be done in a way to allow better tickets for the Powerbaits and less good tickets for the Char vs. Cincy fans (Which again, is similar to how its done now.)
I think we should get rid of the fraternity and Gang Green sections so that we can have more a more unified arena. All of the good seats should go to the most commited fans. That way all of the crazy gang greeners with their crazy selves would be with all the crazy Sec. 104ers and it would be a much more interesting and unified close-proximity student cheering section.
Not all schools have cute names for their fans. Its ok to not have a cute name. We do not need a cute name. “Section 104” is a perfectly fine name.
Niner Nation shirts are cool. I am not knocking those people. When they wear those shirts, to me they are saying "I am a member of Niner Nation, a group that includes everyone in Halton and all of those who listen to the games on the internet from Mass-Fla. I think the true meaning of it is all Niner fans in the world, the citizens of the sovereign power- Niner Nation.
The need arises from the want to have everybody down low wearing green. Everyone agrees we all should wear green, the answer that was come up with was to pick a name and make cheap t-shirts available with that name on them. With NC State they have their Wolfpack Club which is like Gang Green except if you want good seats, you have to be a part of it. And Gang Green has officially disbanded at Charlotte since it was a copyrighted name.
I agree that we don’t HAVE to have a name, but if that is what it takes to get everybody down low to have the same color shirt on, then I am all for it. Frats have been involved with the naming discussions and if we can get them to agree, at least 104 and 105 will look similar.
Of course choosing a name and making the t-shirts available isn’t going to automatically make everyone show up in that shirt, but it’s a start. Right now there’s 3/4 solid rows at the bottom of 104 in “Niner Nation” shirts and if you want to buy one, you have to go talk to the two guys selling them. The idea is that next year you can just go to the bookstore and buy a shirt for relatively cheap(hopefully as cheap as the current shirts are selling for).
Yes, a cute name really isn’t needed, but when trying to get people excited and showing up for games, any gimmick you can come up with will help. Hopefully Niner Nation(or whatever the name turns out to be) will eventually be talked about in SOAR(freshman orientation) groups and maybe even give the new students a shirt. Something, anything that will help get more people excited is better than nothing. I"m tired of talking to Charlotte students about Niners basketball and hearing them say “you guys aren’t that good”, “we(state) are going to beat you guys” This from CHARLOTTE STUDENTS. Make them feel like part of a group of Niners and maybe their tone will change.
I don’t like the idea of Niner Nation meaning a subset of Niner fans. It means all Niner fans. I do like the idea of Niner Nation shirts becoming widespread in the lower levels although I dont want it to be a requirement like with Wake. People should be able to where different Niner gear if they want to be creative. I think Niner Nation is a good name for Niner fans in general, but not a student section, because Niner Nation plain and simple means all Niner fans. Its the wrong name for this type of application. Student 49er club would be a good one. You are right Cmack, The sideline seats at State are student wolfpack club. I think a new name will be a much loser definition of the student section than Gang Green. This new name won’t require anybody to join a group to get tickets as far as I know. The process to get a name was started as a process to get more people to games. They aren’t trying to single out the people who want to pay $10 for membership and a t-shirt(Gang Green), they are just trying to make something that every Niner fan can identify with and be a part of. I don’t think this is going to become a requirement or anything, this is just an attempt to get rid of the pink coller shirts and various colored frat shirts that are all too prominent in sections 104 and 105.
I also don’t believe this is an attempt to specifically name the fans in sections 104-108(or where ever GG ended), I think it’s an attempt to name the fans in general and give EVERYBODY a group they can feel a part of. There will be no membership dues and no one is going to mock you if you aren’t wearing the correct shirt, but people like being a part of a group. Show up with the entire lower level in NINER NATION shirts and see how many other people follow suit when the shirts are readily available in the bookstore and (hopefully) at games.
What the hell. We are trying to name fans and sections. Who are we kidding? We have enough trouble getting students to the damn games. I got a name for you- Suitcase Packers.
I am thankful for the Niner Nation and the individuals that started Gang Green. It is bullshit that sororities and fraturities only show for big games. The Delta Sigs (I think that is who sits behind the players bench) are the only dedicated fans.
This is a sore subject for me. I don’t understand why the student population sucks at the games.
In my opinion, the SGA needs to figure out how to get students there, then name them. The Niners Marketing Department needs to get the students to the games and sell more season tickets. Cut the prices in half, who cares, just fill the seats.
Maybe some better halftime shows. I only like watching the golddusters.
Let’s get real. We as a school need to market this program to the fullest. Boddy has put the product on the floor. Judy has built the arena. It is up to the students and Alumini to get the stands full
We need to pass out Got Lutz shirts in the beginning of the season, not the end. We need to pay jamming music during time outs, not listen to the stupid band play the same damn songs over and over. We need to have pregame parties in the parking lot. We need to have students sleep out for upper level tickets. Once this happens, then we name the fan base.

I personally thought this past year was awesome. Imagine the Cinn. atmosphere every game. There would be very few teams would could come in here and win.
