NC Unemployment Year End date this week

Has anyone else encountered their year end date for unemployment? Mine is rapidly approaching after this week. Although I am working part-time I still need unemployment to supplement my income to pay bills. A few buddies of mine are in the same boat and we are all getting different stories from the NCESC.

Do you have to refile a new claim? I was told from Raleigh that I did not have to refile, that it would automatically roll over. But my friend said he talked to them today and he was told that he must file a new claim and they would evaluate his status.

Any thoughts or answers?

Is your initial 26 weeks running out??

When I lost my job I wasn’t even eligible for unemployment. I only worked there 2.5 months. I’m in a really ****ty spot right now.

I’ve been out of that 26 weeks ago…I am in the extension period already…about 7-8 weeks left, and then there is a 3rd extension that is 13 weeks.

I received 26 - finished that, then got 20 weeks - about half through that, and there is another 13 after this one. But, my year end date erases all of that supposedly.

I’m just really confused what happens next.

The best advice I can give you is to contact your local congressional representative’s district office. I interned a while back at one, and we dealt with constituent case work. Each case worker specializes in different areas, and I was really blown away with how much they knew about regulations laws etc. I guarantee you the person who handles labor can answer your question.

Not to sound insensitive, but does it really take 26 weeks to find a job? I’m pretty sure I could find a job in 2 weeks, max. maybe not a “career”, but definitely a job paying as well as unemployment.

I can’t answer for others, but I graduated from Charlotte in december of 2007 when the recession hit. I had good grades etc, and I went on about 16 different interviews for various entry level jobs. In some of the interviews for these lower paying jobs, I encountered people with master’s degrees and or years of experience in the field there for an interview. After enrolling in a master’s program at Charlotte, I looked for a part time job for almost 4 months. I have six years retail experience and applied to every retail job I saw. I was called by two employers, and hired by one just because they were opening a new store, and they needed to hire 50 people. It is brutal out there right now.

well lets see…in archictecture fat chance. I have been lifeguarding for a year, but that the supplemental. They only allow you to make 75 bucks a week with unemployment.

Now for your sake…my unemployment is 375/wk plus the 75 allowance = 450/wk. Oh and its not taxable by the state of NC so I only lose 10% to the feds bringing it down to 405/wk. Now to make anything close to that I personally would have to be making over 13 an hour before taxes to break even with what I make with unemployment. There aren’t that many 13/hr paying jobs out there right now. Plus…why work 40 hrs/wk when you can do nothing and get the same money while trying to find a real job in your career or go back to school for more training?

If you want to go work for what you could get free then great, but I’m not. Not unless it is something that will actually boost my career. There are some things you don’t want on your resume…lifeguarding at 25 is one of them…but in the end that 75/wk goes a long way.

Fortunately i just picked up a part-time architecture job a few weeks ago. It will eventually lead to full-time, but I still need unemployment to survive until then.

You cant get non-career jobs with 2 architecture degrees…its not happening. They know you will leave as soon as you get the chance, so why would they bother. I’ve tried everything until I was blue in the face and gave up…I’ll wait for architecture to rebound. It has taken a year but it is coming back slowly.

What about all the jobs in the classifieds? Are those all just scams?

Sorry, I’m skeptical.

Bingo. Unemployment isn’t a necessity, it’s a luxury.

most of them are…just spam for your email accounts. If they dont say who the company is, who to talk to and what/where to send information, then is is a scam. Even when they do share all of that info then is 50-50 legit vs scam or spam

I graduated in May of 09, right in the thick of the recession. Things didn’t really go to **** until last fall. I interviewed with a few companies and got an interview, although it was something I didn’t really want to do. It was a new division, they overhired then realized they weren’t going to make any money in the short term with our current crew so I was let go. 2.5 months into the job. I just signed a lease on a place downtown and I’m now working part time at Sears just as I did while in school. Luckily, I get paid commission and it’s coming up on the holiday season so I should be able to make 400ish a week, but after the holidays are over, I’m screwed I don’t find anything stable. If I don’t find anything by February, I’m probably going to just go back to school for a masters degree.
Bingo. Unemployment isn’t a necessity, it’s a luxury.
for those who get ****ted on by employers. Its not a fun ride, so its not a luxury. Go work for 7-8 bucks an hour like an immigrant…but I’m not. For people not in banking, constructions, real estate I dont think some people get it.

Very much so, or straight commission…where you dont get your first paycheck until 2 months down the road.

Trust me …I know I post some of them.

Not all of them.
Not all of them.
either way it doesnt matter…in todays society people want specialists. If you dont specialize or have tons of experience in what they are looking for then you dont have shot. There are too many other people out there trying to get that spot who have those credentials.
Bingo. Unemployment isn’t a necessity, it’s a luxury.
I disagree totally. You could argue this point if we weren’t in the middle of a deep recession. It is a necessity due to the high volume of people that have been laid off from their jobs. It takes a longer period of time to find a job with so many displaced workers. Unemployment benefits also serves as a small, but important stimulus to the economy during times of high unemployment. I believe for a large portion of those getting unemployment, it is an absolute necessity right now.

You’ll need to refile if your running into your year end date.

i both agree and disagree.

I don’t mind the first few weeks to make sure that a person doesn’t get behind on a house payment after being “let go” for no fault of their own, only being in a company that isn’t doing well, which could be because of bad decisions people way above them made.

However, this whole 26 + 26 +1350 week extension stuff has to end. Two of my coworker’s wives were let go at their job, they don’t even have to do anything now. They just sign in from the internet, and a check is direct deposited.

One of the families has a 3 year old that was in daycare, now that the wife is at home, no daycare. With unemployment and the savings of daycare, they net more money now. Zero incentive for a lot of people (not all) to go back to work.

wtf!? You ass! haha jk. But seriously, what the hell are you doing contributing to the problem? Those damn things have wasted so much of my time.
