NCAA Eligibility rules being challenged

Didn’t I say this was all coming like 2 yrs ago.

Of all the things - portal, nil, pay to play , this will be the thing that drives off the most fans and makes college sports the enemy of the NBA and NFL. And imagine what finally pushes some schools to reexamine their participation in athletics.

Per MBB, this will apply to Nika.

I’m going to predict that over the coming time, we’ll see fans moving from outrage to passive acceptance. Meaning: not giving a s**t. I sorta feel like that myself. I’ll read more. Take more walks and naps… Scratch my dog more. “They” are taking away Something of Value and replacing it with nothing. I can rage….or I can just say, “Enough!” And mean it.

That’s basically how I feel about the nba and nfl now. It’s just something that happens. College sports are just doubling down on the worst parts of prosports while removing everything that made college special.

Agreed NinerWupAss, we’ll see where this experiment takes us. I can only take so much watching The Ohio State playing UGA… etc, etc, etc… eliminate 90% of all the other programs and “hopefully” viewership will drop and bring some sanity back into college sports… but will the harm (damage done) be irreparable.

When “my university” no longer has an opportunity to have any relevance athletically is when I might find it easier to detach myself emotionally and spend my time and money elsewhere. Currently I still have hope, but we’re inching closer to a world of haves and have nots.

You’re better than me. We have a chance in sports that really don’t matter to me. If we win a title in anything other than the big 3, it would be nice but not a needle mover for me.

I’ve accepted it’s essentially over and I take it for what it is. A good time with friends with mediocre, at best, sports sprinkled in.

Im staying in until we get on the other side of all this and see what it looks like.

I’ve already adjusted basketball emotional investment.

I still have some hope that either govt intervention will provide structure or the top 30-40 school leave.

Maybe it’s a fools hope, but it’s hope.

This is what we need.

Without this we will never have an actual competition.

I hope and pray they leave asap.

Going to squeeze HS kids even further. 20% that might have gotten scholarships now won’t.

Also makes 18 year olds have to compete with more guys in their mid 20s.

LoL gotta love the NCAA just taking little steps instead of just jumping to the end where there are no eligibility limits.

So you can go to a JUCO for 2 years and then play 5 years of college sports, all while being paid.

That 7 year plan my parents were worried about suddenly looks pretty good.

I didn’t post this from Rothstein because he isn’t breaking anything new. Anyway, most students - not just athletes - are now taking an average of 6 years to complete a degree.

2 years of JUCO, 5 years of eligibility (being discussed) , and a red shirt puts you playing at 26. Sark isn’t far off, and if they grant it for JUCO that same logic applies for FCS/D2/D3.

We’re not far away from seeing 28-29 years playing college ball.

Just a reminder - this isn’t the NCAA deciding eligibility. :judge: :classical_building: :balance_scale:

If all this takes place it would seem to me that it would be to the players benefit to go the JUCO route. Biggest problem to this may be the age barrier at playing pro ball but if you are making big NIL money pro ball becomes moot.

To quote Dan Wetzel, “You watched Last Chance U right? Did that look fun?”

Just love this! CBS Sports patting itself on the back by saying Rothstein had reported exclusively on Friday that the NCAA was considering allowing 5 years of eligibility for S-As. And the reason Mr. Cliche was the only one reporting on Jan 3 - because he was “late to the party” by almost 2 weeks!
