I don’t understand how CH has 2 players re-instated after 1/2 the year, but wants to withhold both so they get a RS? Umm… if they get a RS for next year, then they weren’t punished, they still get their 12 games. If they want to pull a RS BS, then they should have to sit out 5-6 games of the year they actually play, or else there was no punishment. Am I the only one that thinks this is some BS?
Well, if you have read my posts, you know I’m no apologist for NCU-CH but here’s a possible explanation. The players were under investigation and were held out, but are now found to be innocent. Thus, they have been wrongly denied playing opportunities and will be given those opportunities next year. Also, there is the fact that Chapel Hill still believes they are special enough that they can do whatever the hell they want to.
They’ve been to bowls the past two years and will almost definitely be eligible this year… flash-in-the-pan as it may be.
Thank you for saying this UNCCTF. UNC has got the top athletic program in the country. Their aint nobody no better.
fixed
are you sure they’ll be going to a bowl this year? they just got their butts kicked by miami.

They have four wins, and they still have William & Mary and Duke on the schedule. It won’t be a good bowl, but I’m sure they’ll be heading somewhere.

were you at the miami game? the tartholes looked awful.
is it true the tarhole board has a thread about being "the best 4-3 team in the country"? i laughed my ass off when i heard that. it has nothing to do with “hate” or envy as some of you think. it has more to do with laughing at their fans. some of our posters have a hard time comprehending that.

I’m no UNC-CH apologist despite what certain people coughcoughpowerbaitcoughcough would have you believe, but with all the ACC’s bowl tie-ins, all they have to do is beat a 1-AA team at home, and then beat a team that hasn’t beaten a 1-A team, and they’ll be in some bowl, probably the one in Birmingham or Shreveport. No room for error, though, because they probably won’t beat anyone else on their schedule besides W&M and Duke.

Just ask Virginia about that one. Chapel Hill should win both, but the Duke game is probably the easier game.
I hope the Heelz get a bowl game, its more fodder to make fun of them if they end up on blue turf in Siberia.
On a good note, we threw a huge party this wk end for my inlaws 50th anniversary, and all these 70 yr olds showed up from eastern NC that are UNC alum, I jumped right in and asked them during the Miami game what they thought and all were upset and embarrassed, and want Butch gone.
most alums i know want him gone too. it’s the non alums (the ones that really give unc-chapel hill a bad name) that like to brag he will still be around when the investigation is over. they are the same ones that say “unc (chapel hill) deserves a big time football program”.

The UNC-CH rule. Yet another reason to not be UNCC.
bumping to keep charsf happy. he’s informed us he hates threads about unc-chapel hill. so here you go.

I hope that the program gets the death penalty. I hope that the NCAA is hard on them as well. 8)
I’ve been following this on the ACC and other boards, where this story is still getting lots of attention. There is now some speculation on more than one board that UNC will be hit with probation at the end of the season and that Davis will be gone.
It all comes down to “institutional control”. If NCAA finds it was sorely lacking, not sure how Davis could/should survive. That will hinge on what Davis knew about Blake and his apparent part time job funneling kids from all over the NCAA to his buddy.
That said, my favorite thing from this miserable (for me) experience is SEC fans trying to act shocked. At least a couple of SEC fan friends of mine admitted they simply are smart enough to hide this stuff. Not sure whether to laugh or be depressed. Sadly, I think unless NFL cracks down on agents, this stuff will keep going on. Anyone who thinks this only happens in Chapel Hill (hardly a football mecca) is naive or stupid. What is funny, is that while kids who get $$$ from agents are done (rightfully, imho), a lot of schools can play guys who were convicted of crimes. FL has like 20 kids with various convictions, and we had a punter at UNC-CH who stole stuff but stayed on the team.
You guys at Charlotte start winning some games, getting some good players, you’ll get agents. Hopefully your coaching staff does a better job of keeping them away - or at least not twittering about it. :))
The cheating stuff is what really angers me, and sadly, that’s not on the coaches but admin people. The guys who cheated are done, and will be out of school.
If we get probation, you might be reaping some recruiting benefits…
Is this what you were trying to say?
I know I’ve heard UNC-CHeat’s violations called ‘unprecedented’ in at least one article. But I kinda think that the '92 Auburn football violations is pretty close. Auburn’s “black santa” was an assistant named Frank Young.
Specific wrongdoingsThe specifically proven allegations [1] are documented from the NCAA published findings.
During a December 1989 visit by the student-athlete to the representative’s residence, the representative provided between $400 and $500 cash and four new tires (approximate value of $350) for the young man’s automobile.
During a February 1990 telephone conversation, the representative directed the student-athlete to mail his two delinquent car payment coupons to the representative. Subsequent to this telephone conversation, the young man mailed the coupons to the representative; and on February 20, 1990, the representative paid $299 and $278.88 to satisfy the debt utilizing money orders purchased near the representative’s business.
In February 1990, the representative visited the young man’s residence in Auburn where he provided between $100 and $200 cash to the student-athlete. In the spring of 1990, the representative [Page 9] provided $1,200 cash to a relative, who drove to the student-athlete’s residence where he provided $1,200 cash to the young man.
During a December 1990 visit by the student-athlete to the representative’s office, the representative provided $540 cash to the young man, of which $500 was a Christmas gift and $40 was to purchase gasoline.
Following the 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl game, the representative provided $100 cash to the student-athlete for the young man’s performance in the game. Subsequent to the Hall of Fame Bowl game and prior to the 1990 football season, the representative and the student-athlete discussed a bonus payment system based upon the young man’s performance in football games (e.g., big hits, touchdowns and interceptions). As a result of this agreement, the representative provided cash totaling at least $700 to the student-athlete after 1990 home football contests.
In the spring of 1991, following the completion of the young man’s eligibility, the representative visited the student-athlete’s trailer home and placed at least $250 in cash inside a trailer apartment sign. Thereafter, the representative telephoned the student-athlete and instructed the young man to look behind the trailer sign for the cash.
The SanctionsThe NCAA determined that athletics representatives had provided Ramsey with at least $4,000 of merchandise and payments as well as a booster providing Ramsey with $500. It also determined the $9,200 loan from Colonial Bank to be an NCAA violation and charged Auburn with three major ethical violations: 1) lack on institutional control; 2) unethical conduct; and 3) erroneous certification of compliance with NCAA regulations. They also mandated the dismissal of Dye as both coach and athletic director (already invoked by Dye himself) and the discontiuance of association with two boosters. In all, Auburn was specifically charged with nine violations of NCAA rules. Because the story broke before the probations of both the basketball and tennis teams began, Auburn was not considered a candidate for the repeat violator punishment by the NCAA.
On August 18, 1993, Auburn was hit with some of the most severe penalties in the history of the NCAA (at that time). These included a two-year bowl ban, a one-year television ban (for the 1993 season), and the loss of 13 scholarships spread out over a four-year period. Dye was also banned from any appearance at an Auburn function until August 1995. The probation period, while enforced at the beginning of the 1993 season, did not actually start until the 1991 probations of the basketball and tennis teams ended. The probation therefore extended until Thanksgiving 1995.

The NCAA has an “emergency” meeting planned (if needed) to approve 5 win teams to bowl games because there may not be enough 6 win teams to fill all 34 bowls. :o

So a team with a 5-7 record can go to a bowl? That’s the equivalent of us going 12-18 in basketball and still playing post-season. That bowl system is a great system. Well. Maybe not.

Do they try to find more? Should be interesting to see how much attention the Chapel Hill editors decide to give it.
Is Davis going to be pushed out? Tressel resigned when similar things started coming out about OSU. But then, they have a successful program.Still, I can’t imagine the NCAA will let them off if they are willing to nail USC and OSU, football blue bloods, for similar issues.
