NCAA Transfer Rules

This doesn’t change Oregon-Nike relationship. Anyone worthy of getting paid by Nike was getting paid already. This just makes it clean.

Heels would’ve booted Hubert Davis to make room for Williams? Williams willing to go to Carolina and come off the bench?

One of those would’ve had to happen.

Exactly.

Our ALL-Time greats (Henry, Jarvis, Demarco, Diego, Jobey, etc) would not have been strong enough to get a UNC/Duke/Kentucky transfer offer…nor would they want to come off the bench and play half the time for half the points.

And do we think any of them would have traded being in the rafters here for going to a mid tier P5 gig (Providence/Nebraska/Texas Tech/Missouri/Vanderbilt/et al) to finish their career in obscurity just to say they transferred up?? Maybe possible…but not likely.

Woods and White started in spots for Wake, shoot even Murphy got significant time at Pitt. Now all of this could happen before but the potential crushing blow to our programs could be NIL money. Playing time, geographic location, and affinity for coaches are all something that you can compete with but straight cash on top of it could be a killer.

Also too they may be recruiting with their bag men people on your current roster, I know some of you disagree but I don’t see us coming out better with this change.

I actually think it’s good now, you incentive the classroom with the grad transfers after three years, people can play now they just have to transfer down, and they can still leave for another same level school they just have to sit a year.

I hope I’m wrong but this could be all kinds of bad.

clt says the P5 doesn’t exist.,

I am just thinking downstream impact. We wont lose many players to upper echelon P5 schools - but the movement will have us at the lower end. I also don’t like trading our proven talent for the what ifs of talent that washes out elsewhere.

Now for the one extra yr guys that may help us like Edwards and Bamba - I am more thinking the freshman and soph going down.

More than anything I just dont like where this is taking college ball. Basically free agency every year and now with big money for all players above board rather than money for only elite.

I can certainly understand all of that…I guess I just look like it as we don’t compete with those guys anyway and never have and it didn’t stop us from having the success we had in the late '90s.

But in the late 90’s we at least outclassed our peers and that’s what I hope we do here. Major changes are gonna affect all of our peers in a similar fashion. There’s opportunity to be had if we figure out how to use it to our advantage quicker and moreso than our peers.

I have resigned myself to the fact that we don’t have a seat at the big boy table and we won’t be winning Natty’s in hoops or pigskin…but I want us to be back to what we were in Hoops in the 90’s and get to where App is now in football. That would be so much fun to be a real player in both worlds even if not a title contender…and that can be done…if we can get creative and aggressive under this new policy.

We just need to look for opportunities to leverage this policy change to our advantage while our peers are spending time complaining about it or fighting it. Any huge change to a competitive landscape is an opportunity to realign where we are in the grand scheme of things…so let’s be proactive and take advantage of this one.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is “Whether you think you can or you can’t…you’re right.”

I think we can.

I expect this to crush App. Their P5 killer image is gonna die because their talent is gonna get poached big time and the only way they won those games was keeping a team together. I guess I need to just lower my expectations of ever getting back to the 90s level of basketball or getting there in football. The current path I see a way to success - this removes almost every advantage we had and now we rely on things out side of our control with limited resources to compete with expanded resources for others.

Now if our goals are to just be the best of the crap then sure we just gotta navigate this better than the rest of the crap.

I hope y’all are right though. I got no green tinted glasses with this.

More C-USA men’s basketball players who transferred up and made substantial contribution to new team:

Dalano Banton

Anthony Duriji

Trey Murphy III

Ryan Woodridge

The current process the AD as a whole has used hasn’t worked… I welcome this change after thinking about it more. We can get better upperclassmen in here with the offer of playing time. Time will tell how it all pans out but I would rather get a cycling 3 upperclassmen (with some experience and game tape against D1 competition) every year rather than unknown freshman that have a 25% of panning out and them staying rather than leaving for PT somewhere else.

From Dennis Dodd:

What??? None of those would have been good enough for a transfer offer? I disagree, strongly.

Question. Doesn’t this new rule result in fewer semesters for players? Seems to me a lot of players graduated by using that sit out year when they transferred. An extra free year of college!

Is there a rule in place to let the players that transfer get an extra year of school at the end? With FULL room and board, books, etc? Or just tuition?

Also for NIL. Can a player or team (like in NWAs example of chapel hill and Ford) appear in an ad in their uniform? If they do will the school get part of the money? If not why not?

Most college athletes are not recognizable at a national level without their uniforms.

Seems like this will be more local market stuff. Insider deals from boosters, etc.

I bet we are going to hear about some ridiculous deals coming to players from boosters or local businesses connected to boosters.

My concern would be with a big man like Mike Thorne. Big men take longer to come around and once ready then they leave would be tough. Wings and guards are a dime a dozen in the college game these days.

I hear you. But Thorne left under the old system anyway. What’s the difference. He still left.

No mike used up all 4 yrs here and graduated. He left in the grad transfer role.
