New Alabama State football Stadium

Wow.

Saw that on AGS. Pretty impressive.

Wow. That’s awesome

Whaaaaaat? Suites?..Thats crazy talk. ::slight_smile:

Checked their 2010 box scores and they appear to have averaged ~11-12,000 per home game. One game with more than 12,000 (17,000) and yet somehow they are building a 26,000 seat stadium with suites selling at $19,000 each. Note: They have not sold the naming rights yet either, apparently.

Who the hell goes to Hornets FB?

I hope that Hornet’s fans do. I get a little touchy about these kinds of things because I hear this about us all of the time. “Who the hell is going to go to 49ers football?” I hope it ends for us sometime soon.

They’ve had a program for sometime, unlike us building a brand new everything. I’m not surprised that we do not have suites.

I am not surprised we dont have them either, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t sell them. Suites are money makers in sports. I am sure there are some companys in Charlotte that would rather buy a suite and sit in the AC than buy FSL’s and sit out in the sun. Those noon kickoffs in August and September are going to be brutal.

Exactly Mr. B…I just think we’re selling our program short by not offering a few of these to local corporations initially. Some companies would be more open to buying a suite (more conducive to casual/business conversation) than just a few seats.

At this point suites are a moot point. To have them now we’d need to add a whole other building to this project (read $$$$$$).

Something tells me it will be incorporated into future expansion. I’m not saying we’d never be able to support it, but at the moment, we can’t even sell naming rights or get much else worth of sponsors (from what our glorious AD will tell us).

Yea, we can’t even get f’ing seat backs.

Our current press box in the 15,000 seat version will become suites when the stadium is expanded. A new press box will be built.

Lowe’s execs that are grads make up 3 of the top 4 employees. If they won’t sponsor us, take back their damn bachelor’s degree!

Yes, this is correct and has been in the “expansion plans” since they first came out but my point is we should do it now. Remember, CHP said that expansion wouldn’t come until he was dead and buried… >:( …also, this point about us not having sold our naming rights (may or may not be true) has nothing to do with building suites and suites are money makers. Alabama State hasn’t sold their naming rights either as I posted earlier and they averaged 11-12,000/game last year. I’m quite confident we’ll do better than that. I know its too late now, but I just think it was a mistake and shows our AD is still thinking “small-time”.

Fire Judy Rose again?

Fine on naming rights but I also mentioned the lack of corporate donations. We’ve had one corporate gift announced towards the program, and that amount nor the giver has ever been revealed. ONE. I have a hard time believing we’d sell much or any suites without a known product on the field with financial numbers to back it up. Maybe a decade ago when people spent more freely, but I just can’t see a company doing so on a start-up, and it would surprise me and many if they did.

Do any other 12k-18k FCS stadiums have suites?

I know 2 off the top of my head. Old Dominion and Southern Illinois (see FCS top 40 thread). SIU is using suite sales to partially pay for their new 15,000 seat stadium.

The appeal with suites in our situation would be instead of paying $2500 per seat and sitting in the sun, some folks would rather drop $$ on a suite and entertain clients in the AC. That may be what the ‘white gold’ FSL’s are. Does anyone know?

Suites are fine for FCS teams that have championships (App) or who are in markets with some major businesses but no other sports options (ODU), but we’re in a 2 team pro market. Both the Panthers and the Bobcats sell suites and both will fill those suites before we do. I can see the need in the future for 6 or 8 suites but right now they would be an empty extravagance. We live in a market where FCS football will only appeal to SOME of our graduates and students. We’ll have no realistic need for suites until we’re at least in FBS.
