Yeah and check out CBS sportsline, they have us ranked 23rd now.

man someone there really has respect for us.

…and check out 24th

How did NCSU only get 6 votes!!! It’s a tragedy, have the voters forgot they play in the ACC

How did Marquette stay ranked? A 10 point loss to Memphis, was their 2 point win over USF that impressive?

Hard to get votes when you’re not on TV. Reporters from other regions likely not seeking out the Charlotte-St. Louis score.
Better beat Cincinnati.

Do you have someone voting, and if so where did we get ranked?

(seek cover)

Seth Davis was on the Penner/Mac show and said he gave us a vote (for what it’s worth). But I agree with you that lack of TV time = poor national awareness. I think it will continue to be a problem for us unless we win our away into more exposure.

So true, so true!

If we win 1 out of 2 this week we should continue to climb… win both and we make a big jump.

If we split, I'm not sure we'll gain/fall much from our current spot in the vote-getters unless it's a loss to Marquette and then I think we'd lose about 15 votes. And I agree that if we beat both, we should be around #20-#23 next Monday when the new poll comes out. We have the perfect opportunity this week, including Saturday, to really make a statement and hush the critics. We win both of these games and we'll get some serious respect from both the local and national media.

That's one reason the polls are messed up Mike. I'm not saying they aren't entirely accurate but it's a reason for their votes to be known. The 49ers are playing Cincinnati Wednesday night. A writer/poller covers, for example, a Pittsburgh-Notre Dame Big East game on Wednesday night. He knows nothing about Charlotte playing unless he sees 10 seconds on SportsCenter and reads a score the next morning. Can he make an educated vote?

Yes, this is our chance (AGAIN) to make some noise. We’ve been at the doorstep so many times and I keep saying to myself that one of these days we’re going to kick the damn door in. Please let it be this week!

If we were somehow able to win both, there would be the opportunity to move up in the polls as our next two games would be TCU(home) and ECU(away). Those would be tough as well, but not as tough as the current week. I believe a win at Cincy, loss to Marquette, followed by two wins would get us ranked. I’m not so sure if we lose to Cincy and win at Marquette that it would do us as much good.

Here’s to hoping we finally break through!

Tough break that we have to have two big road games in the same week. If we had @ Cinci this Wed and then say, St. Louis or TCU @ Halton, we would have a much better shot at getting ranked. Beat Cinci and then take care of buisiness at home. As it is, we need to beat two of top 4 teams in the conference on the road to make a point. That’s our luck though, it’s never easy as a Niner!

Anyway, if we win either, I believe we will move up:

-Beat Cinci, lose to Marquette: Huge national TV road win would automatically bump up our votes. Plus Cinci may very well lose againt next Saturday against Wake, if we beat them, and lose to Marquette, we will 13-3 to their 14-4, with a win over them. I think we sneak into the 25 spot that way as Cinci drops out.

-Beat Marquette, lose to Cinci. We are suppossed to lose to Cinci, voters won’t hold it against us too much. But Marquette is #25 right now, if we beat them, we will take a lot of their votes. And if no one around us in the rankings gets a huge upset, we could sneak into the top 25.

-Win both, we will be #20. Especially if both of them win their other games next week(Marquette @ Depaul), a national TV win and another good road game, we will steal a lot of votes from them that way. There’s arleady a small buzz about us as seen by the USA Today artcile and other stuff mentoined here the past week, two huge road wins will get the point across.

[/b][/quote] Voters, because they're covering games, probably don't see as much basketball as some fans. They go by scores, by who beat who, etc., out of necessity. We don't have a vote this year in the basketball poll. We did have a vote in football, and we published it every week. In basketball, though, who cares? There is a tournament, and you get to prove how good you are if you make the field.

But a lot of teams that are on the bubble need the ranking exposure to help influence the pollsters. Its a chicken/egg thing. One question I have is does the school itself…the A.D. have any say in how often the team gets on tv.Theres no doubt that if we were on national more, getting ranked would be easier…don’t think most pollsters are watching c-sat.

THe Charlotte-St. Louis game was on TV. Nice to see you still have your finger on the pulse of the local sports scene.

If you’re good enough, the committee won’t miss you. If you’re on the bubble, it’s your fault for not winning enough games. The committee doesn’t look at the polls, and the polls aren’t part of the RPI, unlike the BCS, which used the AP poll this year and in previous years but won’t in the future at the AP’s request.

C-SET doesn’t count unless all the pollsters moved to Mecklenburg County and get Time Warner Cable and have the digital tier.

edited because my filter failed

Recruits probably. General public that usually doesn’t attend games definitely. I don’t need the meaningless, transient accolade, but the program could.
